This is the best foundation I have used. It covers well, you can build it up. I have freckles and if I put it on lightly it will cover imperfections but my freckles will still show through so I don't look like a white sheet. I use a brush to apply and it goes on great. It keeps my face mat even without any powder. It has actually improved my acne prone skin and I don't break out if I don't wash it off at night.
This does not contain SPF, this makes this a good choice to wear if you are going to be photographed with flash, such as at your wedding. I wore this for my wedding and my skin came out looking amazing!

I have never found a foundation that works as well for me as Revlon Colorstay. It is the standard by which I judge all other foundations. I'd heard great things about Mat Velvet, I had a Sephora gift card burning a hole, and I have that constant burning desire to find the next "miracle" product. So I got a bottle of MV. And I've gotta tell ya, it is every bit as good as CS. Matte, full coverage, lasts all day, don't need a primer. Great product. But if it's just as good as CS, why would I continue to buy it, when I can buy CS for a third of the price? Thus being the reason I only give it 4 stars and will not buy again. At least I had a gift card for the bottle I did get.

I found this foundation recommended for people with acne and it provides excellent coverage and I have not noticed any breakouts or clogged pores from this. On the contrary, since I stopped using MAC and switched to MUFE my skin has improved. This foundation lasts up to 12 hours on me and it stays true to color without any significant oxidation.
I was initially shocked at how small the bottle was for the price but I am still on the same tube 5 months later and I wear this foundation every day so a little goes a long way :)
As for my coloring, I am Asian with and normally wear NC30 and MUFE #40 was a great match with the right amount of yellow undertone for me.

I really like this foundation a lot. The finish is definitely matte, though natural looking. I found a dead on color match (am NC20 with a fair amount of yellow in my skin, my match in this is 20). It covers many of my problem areas (hyperpigmentation, and some acne scaring). Zero oxidation, color remains incredibly true for hours. I've tried so many foundations and this one is definitely in my top 5. But, it's not my #1. No matter how lightly I apply it, it always feels heavier than I'd prefer, and something in it makes my skin feel a little tight. So, I love the look, but it's a bit too much coverage for me, and the feel isn't super heavy, but it's too heavy for me for everyday wear (I tend to go for light foundations, though, so if you are used to heavier foundations this could be good). Still, it's soooo much better than lots of foundations out there, and if for some reason I couldn't get a hold of my HG foundation, this would be my back-up in a second. Lots of pluses and minuses with this one. Worth a look, especially for ladies with very oily skin.

I have this product in three shades. I squeeze a small amount onto the back of my hand and apply it onto sections of my face using a stippling motion with a small size skunk brush. The product dries quite quickly hence why it is best to work small sections of the face rather than to dot all over and try to blend. This technique gives a luminous airbrushed finish. I find the finish is not "matte" like you expect matte to be- i.e. it is not powdery nor cakey. It actually makes your skin look radiant and flawless. I like to use this product for touching up my makeup after a long day, especially if my face has become very oily as it does a great job of covering oily skin. I find that if I don't wash the product off my face thoroughly at the end of the day, I will have break-outs the following day.

After using nothing but drug store foundations for years I finally bit the bullet and bought something a little nicer. I'm so glad I was matched with this product. It matches my skin perfectly, I used a 20, and blends unbelievably well, given you have to work quickly. I do find that when it is a little warmer though I do get a bit oilier than I could like with this. It was an easy fix though. If I set the foundation with a loose powder it eliminates the problem. Just make sure to moisturize the dry spots on your face, mine is around my nose, before you apply or else it will make them show up a lot more. Overall though I love this foundation and would recommend it to anyone.

i really wanted to love this product. the color matched my skin and i figured out that it looked most natural when i applied it with my fingers only where i needed it. But i still got really oily a few hours later, and It extremely broke me out...after 4 cystic pimples later (which I haven't gotten in a few years), this went back to sephora :(

i had heard rave reviews on this so wanted to try it. i am combination but end up shiny mid day. breakout prone. but this made me look extra flakey and was very unflattering. i was color matched but i found it drying too pasty against my skin tone. just not the one for me.

I thought this would be my HG. I was so wrong. My face was melting off by noon and it was a cold day, so the weather could not justify this mess. I mean, I used like 6 blotting sheets to try and get all the oil off. Not ok. Returned ASAP. I like the packaging though lol

I don't know what to think about this one. I am a bit disappointed - I've been eyeing off MUFE stuff for years not wanting to fork out the money but finally felt like it was 'time'. I wanted something to control the T-zone shine but also something that was going to not be a thick consitency. Both of those boxes are ticked I spose. Unfortunately, I'm not amazed by this. It can be a bit streaky sometimes. I'm kind of looking for something that's going to be give full coverage without being cakey. Usually you can (as with Bourjois's Healthy Mix) if there's something that still needs to be covered I can just redip my blender sponge and bounce more over but this one seems to get harder to deal with if you try to play with it. I was really hoping this was going to be my HG foundation and I'd never have to think about it ever again after this. Especially paying $59AU for a unreasonably small bottle and having to pay $24AU for postage of two lots of samples so I could find the right colour as MUFE is not sold retail in Australia. It's usable and I will finish it cause I paid a lot for it but probably won't rebuy. I will say that it's not cakey - looks relatively clean on the skin.

What a disappointment. This stuff's mattifying power lasts about 15 mins! My skin is slightly oily in the spring before it gets too warm...but this made me really oily within like the first 1-2hrs. It was a shiny oily mess that pretty much ended up melting off mostly by the end of the day. And it broke me out :( I can't really think who this would work for?? Even dry skin would have issues cause it sticks and emphasizes dryness. Complete fail....only thing I liked was the packaging. See through and squeeze bottle.

Ok, so I bought this because I was looking to experiment with a different foundation other than my M.A.C NW40 Studio Fix that was said to give full coverage. After giving this a try a couple of times I realized that it makes my skin look extra dry (maybe bc of the matte effect) and it did not really give me that coverage I was expecting. Also, it was not flash friendly lol :)) The only positive thing about this product, atleast for me is that it can be used as an everyday foundation for those casual, natural looking days.

Went into Sephora for a consult after struggling with my changing skin from new thyroid medication--wanted something that covered a bit more, but didn't flake me out/dry me out or look cakey--wanted something that I could throw on my face in the morning and last all day without touchups but look clean/natural/set. The gal sat me down and tried several brands, from BB balms and tinted moisterizers to heavier stuff--and she brought up MUFE Mat Velvet in #25 warm ivory--the name is misleading, as it's a bit pinkish in tone--and after priming my skin, she applied this with the sephora #45 mineral powder brush (NOT the foundation brush, but it worked really well). She swirled it into my face, just a tiny squirt of the tube covered my whole face on a medium level. I have to say it feels great, but I need an SPF--so I got the Smashbox primer with SPF and UGH, it's too oily in my t-zone--that's my only concern, wish this had an SPF to it--i prefer my foundations to have SPF or my powders and NOT my primers or moisterizers--for my sensitive skin that's combination/dry it works better that way.
This is expensive but I like the packaging and it lasts most of the day--after 5-6 hours I do get a shiny nose, so you actually DO need to use a blotting tissue or a powder to touch up--the shade works pretty well on me, too--would check out their other stuff and repurchase this :)

Must say was very impressed with this foundation. I have dry areas, around my nose and forhead. I moisturised and used "the Present" primer from philosophy. I used a stippling brush to apply and was AMAZED that I only needed a tiny tiny amount. I was worried that my dry areas would come through but this did not happen. Coverage was fantastic, did not need concealer. You have to work quick though or you won't be able to blend. I know this foundation is geared towards oily skin, but this is a great summer foundation if you have dry/combo skin and want to feel "done up". Skin looked and felt incredible for 8 hours. I think my primer had alot to do with this as well. Primer is a must if you have dry/combo skin. Highly recomend. My only concern was with having to work quickly, as i mentioned. Maybe applying Mac Fix + to brush would help this.
Edit:
Changing rating to a 5. Just love this compared to anything else i've tried.

HG of foundations for me HANDS DOWN!!! I've recently recovered from a 2 year acne outbreak, like serious acne and this little bottle is my new best friend! It's a little pricey for me and I thought the bottle was just so tiny but really, one bottle lasts me almost a year. I don't wear it everyday as a foundation but do as concealer here and there. My dad hates makeup, one day he asked me what happened to my skin. I was worried that my foundation was noticable but then he said my face was so fresh and clear and that usually I had a pimple here and there (thanks Dad, lol!!!). So that says alot about this product. It lasts and lasts and lasts too! I use makeup remover wipes and I was awestruck at how much there was on the wipe at the end of the day. This stuff makes me so happy!!!

I think I've found my HG foundation. My skin is very prone to acne, oily on the t-zones at the end of the day, and I have minor discolorations due to acne. This foundation is just awesome, right now, I can't find a word to articulate and describe the impressive results I got from using this product. I used to use MAC's Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42, but my face would be oily in a couple of hours, so I constantly have to blot my face. But for Mat Velvet+, my face is not only matte, it stays on the whole day. The longest I've worn this foundation is 13 hours and it looked as if I just applied it (with the help of Stilla's One Step Primer). You can also double this up as a concealer. I have discoloration on my face, so I just take dab some on them, and poof, as if it's never there. I don't even have to set it with powder, it's amazing, I'm truly impressed.
As a reference, I have a medium tan skin and I use shade 55.
The downsize is the size and price. The length is like the palm of my hands, kind of small, and it does get expensive since I run out fast because I use it everyday.

I really love this product because it works well in controlling my oily skin throughout the day. I use less than a pea-sized amount every time because I don't really need heavy coverage and this foundation works well enough that only a small amount is needed to cover minor blemishes. There is no irritating scent, which I love, and the packaging is sleek and sturdy, which makes it great for travel. The price is not terribly bad, but it is on the expensive side for a college student like myself. Overall, this foundation does what it claims to do, therefore meeting my expectations and becoming my HG product.

UPDATE: I'm disappointed! When I first started using this product, it was wonderful. It matified perfectly and looked almost exactly like my skin tone (I wear #30). I thought I had found my HG foundation. But after about a month of using it I've noticed it has some pretty major flaws. This foundation tends to settle into fine wrinkles under the eye, forehead, laugh lines, etc. It exaggerates any flakey/dry skin you have. The mat texture only lasts about 2 hours into a normal day, even if you're not doing anything that would cause you to sweat and make it melt off. It just melts off by itself and you end up looking all oily and uneven skin toned in the middle of the day. It really doesn't last with primer either. Plus if you even get a slight amount on your under eye bags or mix it with your concealer to blend... Your eyes look leathery, saggy, and multiple years older. I've tried everything from applying with different brushes, dabbing a tissue over, spraying MAC Fix+ over, applying less, and switching shades. It looks like you applied a cheap drugstore foundation then caked nothing but transparent powder on. If you want something with a mat finish, you're safer just avoiding this product.

I was pretty excited about this foundation when i first got it since it was my first high end foundation, and don't get me wrong it is a good foundation, it has pretty good coverage. The problem is the colour range, i found that all the colours have a red undertone, and it looks really weird on someone like me who has yellow undertones ( but dark skin). Also, it is basically unblendable, this is one of those foundations that you have to blend into ur skin really fast, otherwise it will basically just try on the spot you put it. I also find that if u put too much it can feel a bit heavy. No problems with it becoming oily ( i would hope not since it is a mat foundation), so it does what it claims pretty much. I would say that unless u find your exact shade with this, dont buy it because you really can't blend it with another shade. If you do find your perfect match, I think you can be pretty happy with it, as it can be full coverage, and if applied correctly, and if you enjoy the mat look go for it. I also don't really love the packaging, since there is not pump and the whole is really small.

Very difficult to get in the UK and I wasn't sure about the color match. But I took a chance and ordered it. I really don't see anything positive about it. It doesn't go on nicely, it looks really fake, doesn't mattify and the coverage sucks, I still have to use concealer on my red marks. I'm still oily after a few hours. First foundation I've used where my face actually looks worse with it on. I'll admit the color I ordered isn't right for my skin, but everything it claims I just don't see. So I won't be re-ordering the correct shade.
