This wasn't such a special pigment till I caught myself in the mirror in bright natural lighting. It looked gorgeous as a wash over my eyes! Lovely, neutral pigment.

Subtle is the best shade if you want a nice shade that you dont have to think about pairing. It will play nice with a ton of other colors or just alone. I have a full jar left..shame its hard to find

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. Nearly the same color as Coco (the debate rages on....), but slightly plummier, and does not flash as bright (or as silver) as Coco. The color it IS identical to is the Jigs & Jives pigment from the Holiday Smokey Thrillseekers pigment set (Tartan Tale 2010), so if you can get your hands on that now, I would since both Subtle and Coco are nearly impossible to find these days. continued >>

I believe this is a LE pigment. Subtle is a shimmery light brown color with hints of grey? I can't really describe it well. It's comparable to Lancome's 'Click'. It's lovely as a base color for that basic smokey eye.

one of my favorite pigments ever. beautifully shimmery taupe. this is not chunky at all, goes on smoothly and has minimal fallout [i've pressed mine]. i absolutely love this and am so glad that the jar contains so much product. i don't want to ever run out.

Subtle is a very pretty color, but I thought it would have a more bronze or brownish color to it, but it's very close to other taupe/champagne pigments I own. I love that the shimmer is more for an adult and not overly childish. Subtle is very versatile since it can be worn with any color. I also like that it adheres well without a lot of fallout. I received a small sample of this as an extra in a swap. I have been lemming for Subtle and Coco, but after reading the reviews here, I learned they are very similar so I only need to find more samples of one of them.

I am NW15 with green eyes. This color was LE with the October 2006 Nocturnelle collection. The color description is a muted taupe plum. Personally, I don't really see the plum in this color. It is just a taupe, more on the brownish side, and very similar to Sunnydaze pigment. It is very shimmery. It looks great with browns, and would probably look lovely with purples as well. Pigments are $19.50 each, and I would gladly repurchase.

This is so pretty. I bought it on sale at a wholesale makeup store and I tend to use it when I want a little more sparkle. It looks very pretty on the lids, it catches the light and looks great with a dark brown / black eyeliner for a nighttime look. The shimmer isn't too much--I don't usually like glittery / overly shimmery eyeshadows, but this one is just fine.

THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE PIGMENT. It is KIND OF like satin taupe, but I feel like satin taupe is darker and more muted whereas subtle is shimmery and soft. Perfect for day or night. I only got a pigment sample AND ****HAVE BEEN SEARCHING ENDLESSLY TO SWAP OR BUY THIS PIGMENT******* if you have it, I'd love to buy or swap it from you.. LOL

I don't think this is anything like Satin Taupe...it is a taupe yes. But it's warmer with more metallic warm shimmer. ST is more brown and silver. I looove the texture of this pigment...just sparkles on my brown eyes and looks great for night.

I love Subtle more than any other pigment I own (I own over 50). It's the best taupe with shimmer ever. I use it with pretty much any color and love the results. This is the only pigment that I have a back-up of! I will continue to hoard it, and LOVE it. Pressing this pigment in a pan works really well.

If I didn't already own a million other taupe-ey shadows, I might have rated this one higher. It is a pretty taupe, and I do use it, but I have so many other taupe shadows that this isn't really that special for me. Snaps for versatility, however, as I find I can combine this with plums and browns for a daytime look, and smoke it out with black at night. If you don't already have a taupe shadow, this is definitely worth considering since the dimensionality of it makes it more versatile. Otherwise, you might want to pass.

another beautiful, shimmery taupe by mac.no chunky glitter, just a foil-like shimmer when used wet. but i agree w/ the reviewer below..this doesn't look like satin taupe at all..well not on my lids!

I have been using a sample and love it against my blue eyes. People say it is similar to Satin Taupe but on me, I find the two are different.
Update: - I was using this so much that I bought a full size jar and love it. Works great with blue eyes.

This is the pigment I use the most so I ended up buying a full jar of it. It's great for everyday use, or for when you wanna do really smokey eyes. I love it! It really brings out the green in my hazel eyes and makes them sparkle.

I bought this because I have Coco pigment and I seem to be on a shimmery brown/taupe eyeshadow kick right now. If I have my information correct, Coco is discontinued so I figured I'd stock up on a similar color of product. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between my jar of Coco and my new jar of Subtle. I think Coco is a bit darker and maybe more metallic, but the similarities are just too close to each other. I'd definitely repurchase Subtle, but a jar of MAC pigment lasts SO long, I don't see myself having to worry about running out anytime soon.

There's not much that hasn't been said about this beauty. Subtle is a beautiful taupey color that really brings out my blue eyes. I usually just buy/swap samples of pigments, but after receiving my sample of Subtle, I knew I needed a full size. FWIW, Subtle and Coco are identical to my eye; I see no need to own both.

Wow, I say. This is my first MAC pigment and at the risk of sounding dumb I'll point out, "Boy, are they pigmented!" I love it. I feel like a rock star with this product. I debated on a color choice for a long time because it seemed like MAC didn't have any everyday plummy colors for my greenish-blue eyes, just bright purple ones. So I tried Subtle for its "slight plum undertones" that everyone talked about. I'm not so sure how plum this is; it's not the first thing you notice about it. But I agree it's in there. If nothing else, the taupe is bright enough to bring out my natural eye color and the silver shimmer goes with my cool coloring. I can agree with anybody probably being able to wear this shade. It's a good everyday choice - not too light, not too dark. I'm definitely going to get another sample of this! (Anybody have some extra they want to swap with me for?) And I don't know if it's similar to Coco or not, since I don't own that pigment, but I think Subtle is entirely worthy of being owned by itself. My only concern is that I may have just started a pigment infatuation and I'll have to buy more!
2/26/07 *Edit - After wearing this for a few days, it's much warmer in coloring than I originally thought. At the end of the day, I find this almost coppery in reflection. I think I need a cooler pigment, so I'll keep looking for one! But I do still recommend Subtle; very pretty.
