Yes, I have to agree: it is a dark and strong true rose scent.
Wearing it gives you that 1001 nights feeling and it is for sure not an everyday perfume but it is very appropriate for those special nights.
I am not sure if I would ever use a whole bottle up so I just try to get my hands on sample vials whenever I can.

A wonderful, long lasting full rose scent. I detect a wet, fat red rose in the middle and patchouli in the base of Rose en Noir. There is a spicyness in the mix some people might find difficult, I'm convinced there's cumin. It's not the overdose that Kingdom has, but it's definitely present. Luckily the patchouli does not fully take the lead like in Rose d'Homme (which this scent slightly resembles). The patchouli is noticeable through all stages and slightly restless, but it's what makes this fragrance interesting, edgy and 'dark'. I'm not a patchouli fan, my chemistry+patchouli=trouble, yet this is very wearable for me. The base smells somewhat ambery and I catch a whiff of powder on top through all stages. It is not a scent to wear every day. It's a too chique and it's one for when you want to feel special - or want to stand out of the crowd. It makes me feel strong and 'superior', a 'don't mess with me scent'. Round, rich and strong, but luckily it wears close to the skin. Prefer this one over Caron Or et Noir or SL Rose de Nuit, also mentioned to be 'dark or dirty roses'. They are less dark to me, but that's a matter of perception and feelings a scent evokes with each person.

Interesting prickly herbal opening, fruity rose middle, stiff leathery base. But it's a promising idea that never gets off the ground--the notes don't really come together. It's like a rough draft.

Rose en Noir is indeed a femme fatale fragrance. And what makes a femme fatale? Attitude & Leather! Miller Harris has indeed created a fragrance that is made for a woman with attitude. Leather and rose are the gorgeous top notes. The leather's cool jet black and the rose is lush and dark blood red. Like many varieties of rose -- in addition to the magnificient epitome rose scent there is a a sweet nectar quality of berries. Then there's a sweet & spicy tobacco note which adds just a tad of smokiness. I can also detect some dry musk, amber and a bitter chocolate note that balances the sweetness. It's sexy, assertive and feminine. A defininte woman who knows what she wants and how to get it scent. ReN could be compared to other classic femme fatale fragrances such as, Cabochard, EL Azzure, Bandit and Miss Dior. ReN is indeed a grown up woman scent... not for maidens with flax hair, but rather for sultry goddesses on their way to crone hood and not afraid of life's journey. Magnificient femme fatale that smells amazing on my skin --- long into the silky powdery drydown. continued >>

Rose en Noir starts off innocently enough with a light, dewy rose, and a tart, sweet raspberry note - at this stage, it reminds me somewhat of KM's Gourmandises. ReN gradually becomes darker and more bitter however - most of all, I detect a potent, slightly spiced leather note. I have heard this scent referred to as a femme fatale fragrance, and it certainly is at this stage, but it lacks a certain lusciousness/sexiness that I associate with the best vampy roses (for example: the sweet, lush fruitiness of L'Arte di Gucci; the refined, sexy sophistication of L'inspiratrice; the dark, almost boozy decadence of Parfum d'Empire's Eau Suave; or the dirty, spicy muskiness of AL Rasa). I like this, but I'm not terribly upset that it's so difficult to find. Some notes: raspberry, Turkish rose, tabac noir, cumin.

When I heard the fragrance notes for this scent, as well as the name, I was very eager to try it. I am always on the lookout for a perfume that will showcase the rose note, without turning it into a garden party complete with hat, gloves and watercress sandwiches. Fortunately, a dear swapper from the UK sent me a sample and I wasted no time slathering one wrist with the pale juice.
I immediately got a whiff of something exciting and a little dangerous -- perhaps a patchouli note? More likely it was galbanum or oppoponax, because it fairly quickly retreated into the background which patchouli never does, and which I can't wear very easily anymore. (Long gone are the days when I go dancing down the street in my bell-bottoms and beads, trailing a psychedelic plume of patchouli oil.) The rose accord is nicely done in this fragrance; you don't get bludgeoned with a rose cane (thorns and all), but it remains a lovely, well-composed note throughout. There is a lot of pretty jammy forward fruit for me, which persists, almost overpowering the wisp of leather and threatening to tame all the potential Noir elements.
I held out hope for a great drydown, and again it flirted with being dark and exciting, but ultimately (and rather quickly) just faded away without being very noticeable or remarkable. It was kind of like a woman that has dressed to kill and is fully expecting to take no prisoners at some club or party, but when she gets there, she realizes that her bravado was based only on ideas. The people there are real players and she is hardly noticeable; they don't see her, she makes no impact, and she quietly slips out and goes home, maybe curling up with a book instead. I will have to test this again, and will edit. For now I consider Rose en Noir to be a very likeable take on rose, but it didn't rock my world. And it didn't have the kind of staying power you need for a full nocturnal drama -- resprizing is such a mood breaker! EDIT: After being trapped in a car with myself wearing ReN, I have dubbed it "Rose Annoy." On my skin it develops a dense, bitter fruitiness that overwhelms even the rose. Downgraded to 3 lippies.
