I love this product, it leaves your face feeling very clean, helps with acne and doesn't dry out your skin. I'm on my second bottle of it and I will probably keep buying it, only problem (like all Aveda products) it is very expensive.

I always take into consideration where someone is coming from when reading a review. So, if like me, you find yourself in your mid 40s, still getting acne on a very regular basis, but find typical cleansers for acne prone skin too harsh and drying, then this is definitely the cleanser for you. I typically don't like spending this much on cleanser, but my skin is great with this product. I'd rather spend money now then on a scar removal treatment later.
If I keep it down to one pump each morning and night, I can keep one bottle for 4 months.
A criticism I've read from others and have experienced myself are complaints about this products ability to remove make up. It does depend on the type of makeup you wear, but if I moisten my face first, wash for at least a minute then use a good soft, preferably microfiber face cloth, I get it all off. On nights I'm taking off a heavier face I'll use a make up removing wipe or I will wash twice. Using less product the second time.
I always follow with a toner to make sure my skin is clear.
My skin, other than a rare hormonal outbreak has never been better!

Sooo I have been very disappointed with Aveda face products in the past and was reluctant to try this one. I love foam cleansers and Purity is my usual go to but for some reason ( target marketing) I was swayed by the name and hope for a greater calm..and this one delivered! I consider $10 for
a travel size fairly exorbitant , however again this is *Aveda* we are talking about. I love the scent and I really liked the way my skin was softer after
using this. No cleanser has yet to get all the foundation from my visage, so I followed up with the First Aid clearing pads and Voila! Happy skin for me...

I hated this cleanser, it is the worst cleanser especially for this price. I bought if for about HKD$300/ USD$37.50 and it did absolutely nothing for my acne or my oily skin. I bought it after a friend of mine recommended it to me. I bought the whole 4 step regimen and the cooling masque and for the first few weeks I found my skin was a little less oily but my acne was still the same. After a few weeks my acne was more noticeably red and bigger. You could also see a lot of oil around it! My face was still very oily and was only getting worse. So I stopped and started cleaning my face with just water and also putting on my old acne topical treatment. My acne has gotten much better since I stopped maybe a few weeks ago? I'm not sure. I definitely will not be purchasing this again!

I've been using this with the Outer Peace Acne lotion for several weeks now and I can honestly say it works. My face gets clearer every day and less new pimples are developing. Smells fantastic and it works.

I really like this product. I'm not a fan of foam cleansers because I don't want to dry out my skin, but this one is an exception. Although I'm not sure if it really does clear up the acne, it does removes all the debris, oil, and blackheads (like it said on the bottle & I check after I wash my face). I use this in the morning and it's really gentle so it doesn't irritate my skin. The smell of herbs are okay but they don't bother me. It does a wonderful job and I'm happy I got this. continued >>

Personally it is a nice gentle cleanser. I cannot say that it is helping clear my acne or making it worse. It is pretty pricey when you calculate the price per ounce. I am not sure if I am willing to repurchase it. Right now I alternate this between my Dermalogica and DDF Foaming cleanser.

Amazing cleanser. "Traditionally" those with acne or acne prone skin shouldn't use foaming cleansers, but this product makes me disagree. My friend gave me a bottle for free and my old cleanser had run out (Biotherm Biosource), so I decided to give it a try. After a few weeks, I stopped getting such bad breakouts. Using it morning and night was so effective (I'm a notorious routine-breaker), but I did still get some pimples. I'm not saying that this is going to give you beautiful, totally blemish-free skin (it might, if I actually used it EVERY MORNING and EVERY NIGHT), but it seriously does work miracles on skin.
Cheers!

Won't buy this again. It is a nice foamy face wash but did nothing for my breakouts. My face has never looked worse as a matter of fact. I think it is super overpriced. It doesnt' dry out your skin. So, if you are looking for a nice face wash and don't have any acne problems, this could be for you if you have the money to put out. But for those of you fighting adult acne, it's a complete waste of money.

I suffered from acne for many years. The acne is not active anymore, but every once in a while I get a little pimple in my chin. I have a combination skin and have blackheads in my nose; therefore, I was looking for a product that could treat the oiliness while still protecting my sensitive skin. This foam cleanser (with salicylic acid) has been effective in clearing the small pimples in my chin and making my face look and feel cleaner, while not leaving my face completely dry. I really like the pump system. Although the product is pricy ($25), if you save the plastic cap you can save $1 from the next bottle.

Pretty nice cleanser that doesn't dry out my skin. I have sensitive combination skin and a lot of cleansers just make me break out. I didn't break out with this product and my skin didn't feel overly tight from dryness. This foam cleanser is great for sensitive skin and smells fantastic. BUT, it doesn't remove makeup at all and is a bit expensive.

So far, I really like this product. I've only been using it for about a week now. I love all things Aveda for my hair, and in the last few months have been having a hard time finding a good cleanser/moisturizer combo. The girl that does my eyebrows suggested this for my skin, and it's been great so far. I feel like it doesn't over dry my face, like a lot of cleansers do. Since using this with an Aveda moisturizer, my face is already looking better. It's pretty expensive for what it is, but I'll repurchase as long as it continues to improve my skin. And, I love the herbal-y scent!

As beautyjunkieee below me said, this cleanser won't clear more severe acne (no cleanser can, though) but I think it's great at treating and preventing mild acne and hormonal breakouts.

The amino acids in it exfoliate without stripping skin and saw palmetto extract helps reduce sebum production and zits due to its DHT-inhibiting properties. The fresh, herbal scent provides a nice pick-me-up.

i liked the cleanser because my skin feels really nice afterwards. BUT... i wish it were a third of the price. i mean, just because it's aveda, and smells all herbally and stuff, doesn't mean i want to shell out $25 for 4 ounces of foamy stuff that washes away dirt off my face.
my second complaint is that it does NOT wash off makeup well, and i don't wear a lot at all, just some light powder, so having to wash twice, or use something else to take face makeup off, makes it doubly less affordable and time consuming too!
i'm stickin' with badescu.

This is a great cleanser. however, it doesn't do what it says. This product will NOT clear up your acne so save your money!! However, if you have the $25 to spend on cleansers, its a nice mild gentle cleanser with a GREAT scent that WILL prevent acne at a decent level. I probably will not purchase again only because I need something stronger.

I tried the entire Outer Peace line and this is the only product out of the entire line that I liked. It didn't dry out my skin and I liked the fact that it came in a pump. I use this only in the morning since I like a richer face wash at night. I will not repurchase since I have since switched to Clinique.

I have tried dozens and dozens of facial cleansers from the mildest (Cetaphil) to the strongest (ProActive) and this is my favorite. The pump package it so easy to use whether at the sink or in the shower. The product itself is deep-cleaning without drying out my face at all. The smell is a clean, natural fragrance that does not really linger once it is rinsed. I use the entire Outer Peace line and would highly recommend it to anyone. Worth the slightly high price tag.

I LOVE this cleanser - my normally combination but clear skin suddenly had a freak-out so I bought this when my usual routine didn't clear it up. Although this cleanser contains salicylic acid, it's gentle enough that it hasn't left my skin dry AT ALL. It has helped keep my skin a bit more clear ( I think the breakouts are due to stress so we'll see what happens when things are less crazy) but the biggest difference is how much smaller the pores on my nose have become - really amazing. There is also a definite reduction in blackheads. I found the price quite high (about 30-some$ CDN) but the smell is fantastic (very herbaly) and the effectiveness of this product mean that I would indeed buy it again.

Considering what some of the other acne cleansers do to your skin (are you listening, Neutrogena?) this is pretty great. I am 53 but still get hormonal breakouts around my chin that are probably more rosacea. Still, this seems to keep them down and it doesn't tighten-dry my cheek area. It's the price that gets me. If you are a fan of the plant formulations that Aveda uses, you'll like this. But it is $25 and that is a chunk of change for a cleanser. Still, I'm on my third bottle in less than a year and I think I need to go to plan B.
