Quite whitening, but better than avene's new formulations of lait 40 and 50 that I used to love. I have no face color after a week in Mexico, but I am not sure it would work well under makeup because of the whitening effect. I would definately repurchase for vacation/beach/pool use.

Well, here's the sad story of reformulation: When this product was called "Minesol Dry-Effect SPF 40" it had the best finish, rivaled only by LRP Dermo Peds SPF 40 Spray. See my review on the original version. It was truly "dry-touch" and once completely dry, there was no hint of something on your face. BUT, the original did not have the greatest UVA protection (Boot's ***).
Well, I would almost trade back the newly reformulated version with UVA ***** for the old one. The new one is not dry touch, velvet effect, or anything like the old version! It's finish is sticky, comparable to the Avene sunscreens (see my reviews) and almost not worth the better UVA protection when I can still get LRP DP SPF 40 Spray, which has a great finish. It is fragrance free, unlike the Avenes.
I will use this up, but likely will not repurchase, unless for a day out in direct sun, when finish is not a concern.
Update: Today I took one last shot. I used Monistat Powder Gel mixed with a dab of Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. This really helped the shine, but the finish was still not "dry." So, I took a chance and dusted just a light amount of my "homemade" MMU (Aromaleigh Glissade mixed with Velvet Effect French Talc powder, 1:3): this time, the powder did not look blotchy or cakey. I think the Monistat is providing a better surface for the powder to go on smoothly. Though I mixed the Monistat with the DMM, this is not necessary and could be used by itself, and I even think that you could dust over lightly with plain cornstarch, Dry-Flo, French Talc, or any other powder or MMU, depending on whether you want some color or not.
I'm just happy to have found a way to make this sunscreen work for me, so I can use up what I bought.
I changed my answer to "would purchase again: yes" because even though this sunscreen isn't ideal, I think I would consider it my second choice s/s after LRP DP SPF 40 Spray.
