I adore this little guy. After my face heals from a chemical peel (COMPLETELY HEALS) I use this to get the little leftover flakies off. I go gentle with it. Anyway, I wash it with baby shampoo and run alcohol over it to try and keep it sterile while it's still good, then when it's on it's last leg and looking raggedy, I just go get a new one. They are pretty darn cheap. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! :-)
I love this little thing!!! You can exfoliate as gently or aggressively as you would like to! I use this everyday and can not live without it!! I used to dream of owning a clarisonic Mia but can never afford one. I use this as an exfoliant with my cleanser and now I see no use for a clarisonic because this works my cleanser in like wow! I love love love this. A major staple in my skincare routine!
update: 11/26/13 -- I can't find the extra gentle buf pufs anywhere anymore. Even Ulta doesn't carry them or if they do, it's like one box and it's hidden in the back or the clerk has to hunt for it in storage. CVS now sells their own brand with walnut shells in it or something. I bought it and it's really rough. I have to use a wash cloth, scrub, or AHA to exfoliate now. I guess I could order online from Buf Puf; too bad it's not in stores though. :(
This little sponge has changed my skin for the better SO MUCH. I'm 34 years old, no wrinkles yet, but my skin was dull and I was starting to get flesh colored bumps on my forehead. In my twenties, I exfoliated daily using a washcloth, but then between the years of 27-33yrs old I somehow thought manual exfoliation was bad (I think I read it somewhere or something) and used lotions and scrubs to exfoliate (with so-so results, but nothing spectacular). I saw a video on YouTube by BeHeardKD (great channel btw) and this woman uses a buf puf with Dove soap daily to have beautiful skin. I went out and bought the drugstore brand puf and started using it with Dove soap (I now use glycerin soap) and my skin is, shall I say --perfect! I don't know what my hobby will be now because I've always been on a quest for how to make my skin perfect, and I look in the mirror and it is, so what's going to be my new obsession?!
PS. I'm now on my 2nd box of buf puf sponges and use the "gentle" version although there's not that much difference between the two. I still love the sponge and use it every night to cleanse my face. I find that the generic kind sold at Ulta, Walmart, Target, drugstores, etc is just as good. The Buf Puf brand is hard to find these days. There's usually one or two boxes laying around at Ulta. I will never stop using this product!
Buf Pufs (the original white one and the peach-coloured gentle one) are no longer available in Canada. There are store brand versions of the white sponge but they neither work as well nor last nearly as long as the original. So every time I go over the border, I pop into a drugstore and grab a few of these.
The beauty of the Buf Puf Gentle is that it turns your favourite cleanser into an excellent exfoliating product whenever you feel you need "something extra". It is easy to adjust the level of "scrub" you give yourself just by going a bit more gently or more aggressively. And no fears of getting bits of scrubbing beads into your eyes. Simple, inexpensive and effective...how great is that?
I've come to the conclusion that this has been irritating my skin. I've stopped using it and my skin is slowly recovering. I do NOT recommend using this daily as I did, it seemed to work for a while then started to sensitize my skin. Maybe my skin was too sensitive for it from the get-go. I will not be using or repurchasing these again, there are much better & gentler physical exfoliant alternatives out there. BTW I actually found the Walgreens brand to be better then the original (not as scratchy).
I really like these sponges. They do such a nice job at exfoliating my skin and making my cleanser get really deep down to give my skin a better clean. I just started using these about a month ago and I really have noticed a difference in my skin, the texture is much more even, smooth, and overall just more radiant. I find this sponge in particular to be far superior to other types of facial sponges. I have very problematic skin that doesn't exfoliate itself properly and clogs easily. This really helps combat it. I can use it everyday without it hurting my skin (as long as you don't press and scrub too hard). I use this at night before going to bed and I feel as if my moisturizer just sinks into my skin better and I always wake up with a glow since I started using these. I suggest getting the Gentle version as I find it to be more than enough for my skin. The only place I've found the Buf-Puf brand is at Ulta and you can sometimes find them buy one get one free. Overall, I highly recommend this sponge for anyone that wants the most out of their skincare and needs a good exfoliation without having to get the Clarisonic.
I used to use this all the time but then it disappeared from the shelves of my local drug stores and big box stores. It does a wonderful job of exfoliating my skin and I am sooo happy that I found this wonderful product on amazon and ordered several packages. The small daily pufs are wonderful as well.
I could not find this in stores, had to order on Amazon.
Leaves my skin feeling much smoother than any scrub!!!
I absolutely love the Buff Puff. I have been using Noxema (now I use generic noxema, I like it better) and Buff Puff to clean my face since I was at least in high school if not junior high (I'm 36 now). I have tried other face care products and nothing has ever stacked up to this combo. I get told often that I have great skin, no wrinkles, no big pores, etc... and I 100% attribute it to this. Expensive doesn't always mean better. I highly recommend Noxema (or generic) and the gentle Buff Puff for all skin types. Just an FYI, the generic Buff Puffs are no where near as good. Spend the extra to get the real thing.
These things are really interesting. They rinse clean and dry so easily and quickly, it's just amazing. I'm glad I bought a pack of 6, because I will be using these on my body (and possibly dishes), too.
Okay, now for the seriousness: I have these in extra-gentle (pink). I have sensitive skin, but not the most sensitive. I don't have rosacea to deal with. I was just looking for an effective method of exfoliation that doesn't irritate my face the way most scrubs do. Now, here's the interesting part: the buf-puf does not irritate my skin at all -- no redness -- yet it hurts SO MUCH when I use it. I'm willing to put up with the pain because so far I have no complaints in terms of the results. It's hard to say what the results I'm getting are in a concrete way because I have pretty clear skin as it is. The only thing I know for sure is that they do a good job exfoliating. My face definitely feels softer and smoother after use. I'm going to try this on my body this week, because I'm not happy with any of my loofahs or other such scrubby things. Overall I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who does not have VERY sensitive skin.
I decided to try one of these after I decided the Clarisonic was too expensive. I was very pleased with the results. I had never heard of this before someone compared the Clarisonic to this on their blog. I use this in both the morning and the night. I have used this with scrubs and have not had a problem. Right now I'm using it with LUSH's dark angels cleanser and it's working well, although my buf puf is now a weird grayish because of it. I have gotten a lot of compliments on my skin since I started using this and it's the only new thing I've added to my regimen. This gets all of my makeup off and minimizes my pores. My chin purged at first because I had a few blackheads there, but it has been smooth sailing since. I plan on repurchasing the six pack next time on amazon.
