This is my holy grail hairspray. If I'm going to use hairspray at all, it's because I want gravity-defying effects, and this one delivers. It adds major volume by "freezing" the shafts of the top hairs to the shafts of the hairs underneath them, so the top hairs have nowhere to fall. Yes, it dries almost instantly and is crunchy, so look elsewhere if you want one of those "feels natural" sprays. Like other reviewers I get annoyed by how easily the nozzle crusts up, but 30 seconds under hot running water takes care of it. Also makes a great brow-grooming tool; just spray on a brow brush and lightly stroke over your brows.

I'm disappointed with this spray. It does give good volume, but also makes my hair terribly crunchy and tangled if I'm not really careful. The problem is that it sprays out huge squirts of product instead of a fine mist (like aerosols). It dries very fast and it's hard to avoid those sticky clumps in my fine, long hair. I feel like I'm damaging my hair when I brush out in the evening. I thought it would do the job of a surf/texturizing spray, but maybe it's better for finishing and super hold. Anyway, I will continue to use this sparingly and carefully, because I feel bad about throwing out a high end product like this. But next time I'll buy an aerosol spray.

just tried PAVHS- love it! makes my shoulder-length, fine hair hold nicely, and of course it has that signature Aveda fragrance that i love! my husband has been using another so-called unscented brand, but i would rather smell mine!!

I have really fine, thin hair that I usually curl and use this coupled with the Volumizing Tonic to try and get a bigger look - and it works! The hair spray truly does boost my volume. The smell to me is a little bit like herby bubblegum, which I'm not sure I'm keen on but I get loads of compliments on it. It
My complaints are that it sprays really badly, usually in a thick straight line rather than misting, so that just leaves clumps of crispiness in my hair if I'm not careful. I have started spraying it on my hands and rubbing it through and this works better (though definitely wash hands afterwards because although the product can be a little sticky in excess).
Nevertheless, for living up to volumising expectations (for someone who desperately needs volume) and generally providing a good hold, I would buy this again.

*AMAZING!* This product hold my heavy thick long hair! I have it layered. I flip layers over spray lightly tease and then spray lightly again (surprisingly It dries fast!). I now have that BIG SEXY hair i tried to attain with aerosol sprays of ALL kinds from BIG sexy hair concepts, to sebastian, to rusk to matrix! I didnt think a non-aerosol hair spray could do the job but i was wrong this stuff is amazing! My only complaint is the price 16.50$ for about 6.7oz...Cant complain thought its worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!

My new HG hairspray!!!!
When I tease my hair when I straighten it this holds amazing. Sometimes I don't even tease I just spray this into the roots and fluff with my fingers.
Now when I wear my hair curly... I will NEVER go without this product!!! I have long wavy/curly hair that I love to wear BIG. I style as usualy then spray this all over, flip my hair and scrunch it, flip it back and wow!! Huuuuge hair that stays!!!
Cons: does make hair crunchy, the price.. I go through it quickly.
I will continue to repurchase because it's so worth it!! it gives me the best big curly hair look!!

This is one of my favorite products ever! I love my hair to be big and wild, with waves and kinks everywhere and this hairspray is amazing! I mist a couple pumps into the air, flip my head around so my hair flies through it, and my hair lands perfectly... and stays! Love it!

This is my favorite hair product.
It gives my fine hair a lot of body and though it's expensive, it lasts a fairly long time.
My only complaint is that there is no warning on the bottle that says "DO NOT SHAKE."
Basically, if you shake the product too much, it liquefies and then it's useless. I found this out the hard way - which wasn't cool considering the price!
Bottom line though, this product works well and I will continue to purchase it.

I wish they had a "NO!!! NEVER!!" answer in the "Would you buy this product again?
I have a love/hate relationship with Aveda. When I love a product, I really love it and when I hate it - the product (IMHO) really sucks. This one definitely sucks. It makes my hair flat (kinda the OPPOSITE of volumizing), fly-away and gives me one of those "haven't washed my hair in a week" looks (i.e. my hair looks matted, dirty, flat and lifeless). Thanks Aveda. Maybe you should rename your hairspray "Lifeless Crap Hairspray" - then it would do exactly what it's supposed to.

I've had a bottle of this stuff in my bathroom for about a year now, and although I don't use it often, it does a great job when I need a super firm hold. I think for my hair on day to day basis, Aveda Air Control works way better for me-I have pretty fine hair and it gets product build up really easily.I also agree with other users that the nozzle clogs up really easily, and the hairspray will come out in one big stream (not very nice). I have a smaller travel sized hairspray bottle that i've transferred some liquid into and it works a lot better. For the price, I don't think I'll repurchase.
EDIT:
After reading all the great reviews of this product, I started to use this again...and I'm totally converted...I love this Hair Spray...it still is super tricky to use...but the results are worth it...my fine but lots of it hair looks great after this stuff... i usually blow dry then straighten, then finish with this stuff and my hair looks thicker and has that sexy messy look...and the next day it still looks good, and not as greasy as it normally does...with Repurchase!

Great product ever!! It really lifts up the roots without making the hair stiff and flaky.

I use this product on my medium length layered colored thin hair. I love it!! I can actually sleep on it and it still looks good the next day. It did cause a build up after extensive use but I used an Aveda product that detoxifies the hair and it did fine.

I am a hair spray person...I use it every single day. This is the very best one I have ever used. I agree with other reviewers, about how it holds you style without weighing your hair down.

This is the last step in the Pure Abundance Line. This hair spray holds firmly, but doesn't weight hair down. When I go to fix my hair the second day, there is no build-up. I can use the hair potion and hair spray again and my hair feels good and looks good -- in the style I want. I don't know if any other hair spray would work better, but I am very satisfied with this hair spray.

I did not like this. For one, the product doesn't spray nicely, making it hard to distribute evenly. I end up with big blobs of product in some areas, and none elsewhere. Second, this made my hair sticky, goopy, and gross feeling. Third, I didn't really care for the smell, though I do generally like Aveda hair products. Finally, I didn't notice any increased volume for my thin, fine naturally-curly-but-sometimes-straightened hair. Sorry, Aveda. I still love you, but this product is not for me.

I love this stuff! I have long layered hair and this provides amazing body and hold until I wash it out. The best part is that it doesn't flake as many strong-hold sprays tend to do. I'm not crazy about the pump though cause it clogs and it only allows small, short bursts of product to come through (perhaps by design since you only need a small amount?). Otherwise, amazing stuff!

This is like steriods for your hair - totally amazing. The body is fantastic will never be without this again!

Wonderful stuff! Lots of volume without stiffness or flaking. For years I have used Paul Mitchel Freeze and Shine but Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Spray is the BEST! Will definitely not be without PAVHS.

I'm on the fence about this one. I just finished a bottle and not quite sure if I like enough to re-purchase. I have very fine highlighted hair and found this hs did provide some volume. You have to use a light hand when spraying this or else ur hair can end up crunchy. sometimes it was difficult to spray and like another reviewer posted i made sure to jerk my hand over when spraying this. it clogged quite a bit which was very annoying. Overall the high price does not justify the results...i probably won't be purchasing again. i'm a product whore so still have lots of other HS to use.

I love this stuff for my fine hair. It seems to create a lot of volume that lasts all day and doesnt weigh the hair down. A few downsides though, it really makes the floor sticky and it seems to clog up all the time so it sprays in a bunch of different directions.
