This lipstick is one of my favorites! I love to pair it with smoky eye makeup for a vampy look. It's a gorgeous color, a little more sheer than I would like but very buildable. It's not at all drying, and you can put on a small amount and then blot it for a pretty, stained effect! I love it so much. Will definitely repurchase!
I heard so many great reviews about this colour that I was surprised to find it on sale for 4$ this past week (in Canada original price 9$)... there was one left that had been kinda jammed behind the display!
It is a beautiful colour. I have extremely fair skin, almost-black brown hair and blue eyes. Definitely does give me a vampire look but looks great when I want drama.
I think I will use it more as a stain/sheer than full-coverage however. This is partly because it is less dramatic, and also, as others have said it is kinda finicky if you want full coverage. Applying with a lip brush is a MUST! Your lips also must be well-prepped (completely smooth, moist + maybe a clear lip liner or primer) in order to avoid patchiness developing overtime. The staying power is great for a 4$ lipstick.
Happy with purchase, but if I want this colour again I MIGHT buy a more high-end brand so as to be able to wear full coverage with less worry.
I am currently obsessed with this lipstick. I absolutely adore the color, but it is really high maintenance.
This is just the perfect color for fall. Its a lovely red wine color - perfect blend of red and berry. I don't normally wear this in full opacity on its own because it can look quite goth-y on my skin tone (light skin asian veering on porcelain). Also, the color will settle into lip lines, doesn't tend to fade very well (blotchy), and it might bleed/feather.
To eliminate all of these problems, I've actually been mixing it with MUFE's Aqua Rouge Nude Beige. I apply the Aqua Rouge to my lips first, and then before it dries, I apply this lipstick and blend it in with my finger. During the day if I need to give it a boost, I just reapply and blend it in again with a finger. Actually, I think its best to apply with a lip brush or finger no matter how you wear it to make sure it really gets into all the crevices and to get a nice even application.
Another great way to wear it is as a stain mixed in with a little lipgloss to increase moisturization. Unfortunately, my lips get dry really easily, and this lipstick is not moisturizing at all. I really have to give my lips a good scrub/moisturize before and after I use it.
Despite all the cons I've mentioned, I love the color and I have been wearing it all the time. Its also inexpensive (I bought it on sale for probably around 5$). The tube is nothing to write home about, but I haven't had any issues with the cap coming off so that's good enough for me. I don't think I will repurchase because I hope to find a better version that isn't as high maintenance.
I love the color but its a very shiny thin consistency and wears off quickly. Also settles into the lines of my lips within about 30 minutes. Its a high maintenance formulation but the color is so pretty that im willing to work with it. I think the name is spot on in describing the color. Plus it makes my teeth look super white and bright. When I wear it next time I'll be using a lip primer and an (almost) matching lipliner. Ladies dont be afraid of the darkside! Lol.
This was the first dark lipstick I have purchased! I'm so happy because it is perfect for my skin tone and everyone elses! I have this obsession with dark, berry pigmented lipsticks and this is perfect for fall! It applies evenly and is very smooth, which I love. it hits right on the dot for fall weather lipstick. I will buy from Revlon again.
Thanks Revlon for making me happy! hehe
I got this after hearing raves about it on the MU board and I have to say that this is the first Revlon lippie I've disliked. The color is a beautiful, vampy dark purple berry but it has no staying power and settles in my lip lines like crazy. Now, Wet n Wild Cherry Bomb is a similar color and it is fabulous! Goes on smoothly, wears well and is only 2 bucks! What's not to love. If you are wanting a dark vampy color for fall I highly recommend the WnW color. This Revlon one isn't great at all.
Although people say this is a dupe for MAC's Dark Side, it is about 2 shades darker than DS and the texture is not as creamy. Dark lipsticks are trending this fall and if you don't want to spend a lot of money - this is about $7-10 less than MAC- or your are unsure how a darker shade will look on you, this can be a good introduction to the trend.
Warning: A full application of this can look Goth, even on my medium dark skin tones (NC 43), so you will need to blot. I blotted this 2x then added a little gloss and it was still darker than I would have wanted. It almost felt Halloweenish to me. Perhaps on a darker skin tone this works but it was total NO for me.
Dark Side is one of MAC's Amplified lipsticks and in my mind you get what you pay for, it goes on smoother than Black Cherry and is not quite as stark a contrast, it is just slightly redder than Black Cherry which makes it a little lighter in color. For that reason, I will be going back to DS and will not buy this again.
Color: 500 million lippies. This is gorgeous. I find most purples/plums for fall are too blue or too red, but this is the color I think of when I think of fall lipstick. It's so dark. It looks so scary in the tube but you can dab it on and blend with your fingers + balm for a less severe look. I'm obsessed with lipsticks that look scary but actually aren't (Clinique Black Honey, anyone?) You can make this sweet and pretty or you can be more heavy-handed and look all vampy and evil and sexy. This is kind of matte, THANK GOD, because I find shiny glossy lips disgusting (unless you do it right, which is hard to do.)
I only gave this 3 lippies, though, because the staying power is horrible. Some reviewers have said it leaves a stain after it wears off--I have never experienced this. I wish it did leave a stain. In fact, I wish this WAS a stain, but it's an average lipstick that you'll have to reapply frequently. I even put lipliner underneath and it didn't stay on long. (I actually returned it for this reason and then missed the color so much that I went out the next day and bought another.) Also, this can be drying, and layering balm under it seems to make it wear off even faster.
If you can handle reapplying frequently, GO OUT AND BUY TWO OF THESE RIGHT NOW, because this color is absolutely perfect. I will be forever searching for a way to make it last longer.
I'm more of a lip pencil type, because of the precision, durability and longer wear of a pencil. I bought this shade at boots for about £7 and its fab, I just love it. a very sultry color with good wear. great for a night out. and a very good dupe for Mac dark side. and half the price
Wait. A. Second. Stop what youre doing & get the Press on the horn! This lipstick is awesome! I bought my first tube of this formula approximately 4 hours ago & reapplied once (and that application was not even necessary! .....and i had just eaten lunch! What?!) This brilliant lipstick is a gooooorgeous burgundy/plum shade -- toooo beautiful. And the freakin formula? Im shocked! Lipstick never stays on me this long. It isnt drying, nor is it feathering. It is da bomb dot com. I was suuuuuuuuch a huuuuuuuge fan of the revlon colorburst lipsticks - mainly because of the colours - but was never impressed with their lasting power OR the fact that the lipstick bullets always broke, shifted, or came loose from the tube. This particular formula & colour is great. Im kinda pale with olive undertones & it makes me look kinda awesome, i will not lie. It isnt so brown that i look like a chola; isnt too black that i look gothic; not too red, purple, burgundy, whatever. It is perfect. Like a grey goose martini with two olives. ::over&out::
