I tried this product at least 10 years ago and my HG of cloths!!! I found it really pricey but it works so well!! I even tried H2O's shammy because it's so much cheaper but it doesn't even come close to Aveda's! It takes off all makeup and eye makeup really well. Works great for taking off mascara too! And it cleans really well. Every week I hand wash it with a little bit of detergent and it is as good as new again. I end up using it til there are cracks on the edges (even tho I'm supposed to replace it every 6 months.) It doesn't tug like regular face cloths would. My husband tried it and kept using it because he saw how well it took off his dead skin cells! LOL!! So now everytime I buy replacements I have to purchase 2! I bought Jane Iredale's magic cloth and as expected it did fall short of my expectations since this Aveda shammy is so much better!!!

This Shammy is awesome.
At first i didn't know how to use it, so i hated it, but once you get it right, its great!
1 - Wet the cloth throughly
2- squeeze out most of the water, so its not dripping with water.
3- wipe cleanser, mask, etc off your face.
4 - rinse clothe underwater, repeat 1-2-3.
I've always had trouble getting my face clean, I'd use makeup removed, wash it twice, and when I'd used toner afterwards, all this dirt would be on the cotton pad
I tried so many different cleansers and nothing solved the toner/cotton pad issue.
UNTIL the Shammy!! I can wash with any face wash, then Use the Shammy to rinse/wipe and then with the toner test, the pad is Clean!!
It really works to grab all the dirt, dead skin, and more off your face. its just amazing.
I have a clarisonic and that Doesn't work as well as this Shammy!
Love it, and now my sister and boyfriend use it too.

This product is unique. What it is exactly is a washcloth that dries to a stiff feel after you use it. This allows bacteria not to infest in the washcloth, which is what happens to other washcloths without this feature. I use it everyday, in the morning to clean my face, night time to take it off. It works like a dream and my breakouts have definitely decreased from it. I have oily skin and I must say this product somehow toned it down. I love this washcloth and needless to say, I would buy it again if needed!

I am of mixed opinion when it comes to this product. For reference I have the white cloth from The Body Shop that uses the same technology: dries stiff after use, smooth surface, rubbery. Pros: 1) Dries to keep out bacteria! 2) Allows you to see the dirt that has been removed. Cons: 1) Must apply a decent amount of pressure to see results. 2) Seems to dry my skin out somewhat. 3) No good for something like OCM. Using this for the past 5 months, I have not noticed any reduction in breakouts and I am beginning to miss regular use of normal wash clothes. I have yet to decide if I want to repurchase.

Okay well i like this. It has made my breakouts almost completely nonexistent and is really making my morning and evening skin routine very simple. the only problem i have had with it is i ordered it off of the website and paid by CC and it took them over a month to even ship the product. that i was completely upset with but once i got the product i rather liked it so it made up for the lack of customer service.

Hmmm..i would like to like this product but i just don't:( i just dont understand what the point of this is.I ris and it had only been used twice, i've only used it a few times.I hav slightly sensitve skin but still like to feel as though im getting a little bit of exfoliation when washing my face. This cloth has an odd, rubbery texture, and it really does not feel like it has cleaned or removed anything from my skin.I think i would rather take the chance of changing my washcloth every few days, then using this, having it harden up and kill germs. Also at $20.00, its simply too much for any cloth. Not a repeat purchase:(

This is a great product and I credit the Shammy to helping my face become clearer and less prone to breakouts. I purchased this about 3 months ago and I have used it every single day since. I feel like I am taking off all my make up off at the end of the day. I put Nivea's cream mu remover all over my face and use the Shammy to take it all off. Then I cleanse my face with Alpha Hydrox Foaming Cleasner.
The shammy dries over night so that less bacteria forms. Every two weeks, I throw it in the washing machine on a warm/cold wash and leave it outside to dry. At first I thought it was a bit epxnesve for a piece of foam cloth but I think it is totally worth it now. The Shammy should last for at least a year or so.
4/16/09: I am still loving the Shammy!

I love this! It is a facial cleansing cloth that is almost exactly like the type used to clean your car. The cloth is so smooth and gentle to your face so it's excellent for sensitive skin. It comes pre-moistened in a plastic pouch and dries very stiff and hard. When you rewet the cloth, it becomes soft once again. This cloth will last for years. The only reason I threw mine out is because I laid a wet red towel on it and the color bled onto the chamois. :( My cousin who I consider the "know it all" of skincare has this cloth, and I had to get one for myself. She is even the person that introduced me to Aveda's line of products. I took off one Lippie since sometimes it feels so soft that I think my skin isn't getting cleansed well enough.

I seldom post a review on anything but I just couldn't stay quiet about this one. I just pulled it out of a drawer to give it another try because my face has been dry and irritated lately. I tried to wash of a moisturing mask that I had used. I just couldn't get it to work for me! It would just glide over the top and finally out of frustration I pulled out a washcloth. I was thinking back at the times I took my makeup off with it and was frightened about what I must have left behind unknowingly. Thankfully I only used it a couple of times. I do have to agree though it did take off eye makeup but I remember it leaving behind raccoon eyes. Needless to say I don't have much good to say about this cloth.

This cloth is amazing for making sure your cleanser gets off every last bit of make-up. I use it instead of cotton pads for removing eye make-up - no fluffies in the eyes! Great for removing masks too.

I enjoyed using this cloth for the face. When dry, it's hard to touch to keep bacteria away. I have sinced moved to the Buf-Puf in Gentle for more exfoliation.

I tried this cloth today and its not bad but its not good either at least for my skin. I have super super super sensitive skin I also just had Levulan with PDT done for my acne and it pretty much cleared it up but I thought this cloth would be great for me because Im a guy and men have thicker and oilier skin than women and I thought this would be great in the morning before shaving so I wouldn't get ingrown hairs but this cloth I don't know I think ( like always ) Im the minorty because something that always works for like 99% of other people never works for me. I tried everythiing and this is the last thing Im ever going to use. Now I'll just stick with J&J head to toe wash,Lab series shave gel, Boiron Calendula gel and Blue lizard sunscreen. I just tried Vichy thermal water and I love it. That's it Im done with trying other skincare. I'll stick with this. continued >>

This is a must have if you use oil for taking off make up. Just one wipe and everything is off. It's not too rough, but it very effective This is also great for dry lips. just rub a little and perfect lips. If you don't have an Aveda close buy Body Shop has a cloth that's similiar and a little cheaper. Same job, just smaller and a different color.

finally got it in mail and tried it out. The texture is certainly something to get used, sure doesn't feel like cotton fiber to me, I really think it's made of fine sponge material, sponge is the only thing i can think of that dries stiff. I definitely do love this product though, my face feels squeeky clean after usage yet doesn't over dry/exfoliate my face. awesome product, will buy again.
Thanks to MUA I feel that I'm spending money lot more wisely now, as skincare and makeup trials can get very pricy if i were to go around blindly.

I love this product, I think this shammy is fantastic much better than a face cloth. Soft and gentle enough for eye make up removal and used inconjuction with MAC's cleanse off oil this cloth just doesn't stain, a simple rinse remove all traces of eye make up - fantastic. I love the fact that this is so absorbant so it doesn't drip all over the place and the fact it dries hard to avoid bacteria growth. Highly Recommended!!,

Sorry to go against what nearly everybody on here says, but I found this product to be a little weird. I couldn't get used to the texture, and it didn't have any outstanding effect on removing makeup. Perhaps I should preface this by saying that I don't usually use a washcloth to wash my face. I only use a washcloth occasionally when I need to physically exfoliate, but that happens very rarely and in the winter. I haven't had any problems or drawbacks with using an ordinary washcloth, which I throw in the laundry after one use. I actually like the slightly rougher texture of a washcloth b/c it feels like I'm exfoliating, whereas with this one which is so smooth, I wonder if it's scrubbing off anything. I just really couldn't find any positives about this product.

This product is one of the reasons I love MUA. I would never had thought to even look for something like this without spotting the reviews here & deciding to give it a try.
I love using a washcloth to clean my face (I find a lot of brushes & puffs too scratchy), but hate dealing with keeping them dry & clean. This product gives me all the benefits of a washcloth without all the mess - I love that it dries quickly when hung on the towel rack & is ready to use again as soon as you damp it down. The cloth itself has a mild exfoliating effect - it felt a little odd the first couple of times I used it, but my skin felt really soft & smooth afterwards & moisturizer/foundation goes on nicely. I use this in the morning with cetaphil and at night with my olay sensitive skin cleanser to remove make up. Everything comes off quickly & then rinses away. I think this would be a great product for anyone who has very sensitive reactions to more traditional scrubs, using just this cloth plus cleanser would probably work well & not be irritating.
The product isn't dirt cheap ($10 at the Aveda store; its packed in a sealed plastic baggie with a little sterile water to keep it soft when its shipped) but it really, really lasts and avoids having to deal with all the washcloth hassle. I'm planning on buying a second one to use in the shower with my shower gel, I suspect it will work well there too.

After reading the reviews on this product I decided to try it. I bought mine at the Aveda store in Square One Mississauga, Ontario. I am SO GLAD i bought this, it has really helped clear up my skin (which is acne and blackhead prone and sensitive). It makes your face feel VERY clean; I use it with Cetaphil cleanser; it removes all my makeup and lipstick! My shammy hasn't stained yet and it cleans very easily and quickly dries to a crisp preventing bacteria growth. I also use it GENTLY around my eyes to remove waterproof eyeliner etc. and it gets rid of every little trace of makeup!
I will definitely buy this cloth again! (Not that I have to anytime soon! since it lasts forever! MINE still looks new and I've had it for about two months; using it twice everyday!

I bought this for make-up removal with Mac's cleanse off-oil or Jojoba oil, or whatever oil I have on hand for that matter. Then I use my Clarisonic brush with a non-foaming cleanser as a final step before moisturizing or adding treatments to my skin. I love it. It removes make-up beautifully, gentley and thoroughly. You rinse it out and there no stains left behind. Viola! No more make-up stained washed clothes for me to wash!
