After a horrible allergic reaction to trying the idebenone product "Prevage", I turned to this cleanser to help my utterly traumatized skin. My skin is not particularly sensitive but after mistakingly trying Prevage around my eye area, it proved to be a disaster. The extent of the swelling & irritation was not manageable with topical cortisone & taking benedryl. Ultimately I had to go to the doctor which prescribed cortisone pills to calm the inflammation. This cleanser also saved my skin because it is so gentle that it did not cause any further irritation or trauma. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is experiencing irritation or is just looking for a wonderful gentle alternative to harsh cleansers that are on the market. This has proved to be a god send for me during a horrible allergic response, it has helped to calm my skin. continued >>

I thought maybe I had found my HG cleanser. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin. Retinol, BHA, etc. are too intense for me. Oilatum-AD does a good job of cleansing without irritating my skin, and it's relatively inexpensive. But I didn't find that it did much to prevent or control acne, and it was slightly drying. I'd rather use a milky cleanser.
Oilatum is similar to Cetaphil and Cetaphil-type cleansers, except that it contains the antibacterial ingredient triclosan. It's unscented and packaged in a plain white plastic flip-top bottle with an expiration date.
Oilatum-AD is made by Stiefel Laboratories, a U.K. firm, and marketed for people with skin problems other than acne (the AD in the name refers to atopic dermatitis). It isn't widely sold in the U.S. as of this review; I can find it online only. As I neared the end of my first bottle, I ordered several more so I don't run out, a first for me. The retail price is about $12 for an 8 oz. bottle, but you can find it for about $9 at familymeds.com or from eBay vendors and about $10 at dermadoctor.com (shipping varies).
The following information is from the label:
• Soap free, antibacterial cleansing lotion containing triclosan.
• Unscented Oilatum-AD is a unique new soap-free cleanser carefully formulated to be non-drying and non-irritating.
• Oilatum-AD provides soothing relief for people who have soap sensitive skin and its antibacterial ingredient helps reduce bacteria.
• Products for the care and treatment of such skin disorders as acne, seborrhea, atopic dermatitis, dry skin, psoriasis, warts and eczema.
Ingredients: Triclosan, Methylparaben, PEG-75, Propylparaben, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Stearyl Alcohol,Water
