I was kind of suspicious of Aveda's brushes at first, I thought they might be gimmicky or something. I bought the narrow vent brush (about 2" by 9", with five rows of plastic bristle) and I was actually pleasantly surprised-- it wasn't outrageously expensive, and it works really nicely to massage the scalp. The problem is that the cherry wood handle, while light and comfortable to use, has lost its varnish pretty quickly. I mean, didn't Aveda foresee people using these brushes with wet hair? So I have to give it a three, even though I find the performance of the brush as a brush to be quite nice, and I'm thinking about buying another.

Since I first wrote this review I have purchased the large paddle brush and I LOVE it. It massages my scalp so nicely, it has a light, ergonomic feel, and it does a great job of detangling. The perfect brush for my long hair. Start with this one if you are going to buy an Aveda brush.
