Used to love this product, but when they switched the packaging to plastic it sucks. It used to come in a nice glass bottle with a dropper. The actual lotion feels great on your scalp and is not oily at all. Sadly, Estee lauder owns Aveda now, and they test on animals.

This isn't as expensive as Kerastase, which is why I give it a 4.
I don't know what happened, but my scalp has become an itchy wreck, full of flakes and other weirdness. This seems to be the only thing that helps. I use the shampoo and conditioner, but since they rinse out of my hair, I can't say if they're the reason my hair is better.
The brown bottle of damage remedy has helped wonders even in just a few weeks. The fact that I don't rinse it out makes me feel like it might be effective. I use it when my hair is towel dried, before any other products go on. I've noticed less itching, almost no flakes and no other bumps or scabs on my head. Yes, that's gross but that's the way it is, or, was. I'll try to update as I've been using it longer. If it keeps working this well, it's going to be a part of my hair routine for a long time coming.

I bought the scalp benefits shampoo, conditioner and the scalp remedy spray has I had a bad case of itchy and dry scalp.
Don't know if it was the shampoo, the conditioner or the remedy spray or the combination of all the products - but this stuff works!
The itchyness and dryness is all gone - and pretty fast as well.
The packaging is great, easy to apply, and not having to wash it out is a bonus for a busy mother of two..
The scent is herbal.. and rather unisex.. not my thing .. but I'll return to this product again if the itchyness returns.

I was given this by my Aveda salon after I had a severe reaction to their professional hair dye (specifically I had a burnt scalp due to the bleach!) - this resulted in my having a very itchy, flaky scalp once the burns etc.. had healed, which lasted abotu 6 weeks.
I use this straight after washing (ie before drying hair), and although it has a very strong minty smell, it's not unpleasant. It immediately stops all itching and flaking, and has no ill-effects on the hair. More importantly, it was fine to use on my very poorly, sensitized scalp which was such a relief!
A few weeks later I still have some flaking issues, but a quick squirt of this does the trick for another few days, which indiactes the overall situation is improving....
I love Aveda products (bad dye-experience non withstanding!), and this has only backed-up my view that it's the best brand for your hair.....Love it!

This is an amazing product! It's hard to find a scalp solution containing salicylic acid, which is ideal for the scalp because it penetrates the sebum to work from a deeper layer. This is essentially a great exfoliant for the scalp especially for those with some dandruff. I used to be able to see flakes right after I have dried my hair from washing, even with using nizoral. But one week of using this and no more flakes! I have used this bottle for a few months now and I will certainly repurchase once it is used up. I have to agree with one poster below that it can make the scalp look greasy. So I generally put it on my scalp at night, let it dry before going to bed, then shower and wash my hair in the morning. So the greasiness isn't really a problem. The packaging makes it easy to use, especially for aiming specific areas with the nozzle and it's easy to travel with.

I love the way this made the coarse hair near my scalp feel soft and smooth, but I don't think it helped my scalp. Bought for ~half price on ebay, so worthwhile to try at half price. Slight minty/mouthwash smell, but I don't mind. I am not great about applying this twice a day, so that may be why it didn't work great for me. But I do not plan to repurchase.

This review is for the revamped Aveda "Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution". This leave in scalp tonic is designed to alleviate irritations due to dandruff. Here is what I found:
1. The bottle design is perfect! The previous edition was housed in a glass bottle w/a not so user friendly dropper! I love how I can simply spray the solution onto targeted areas of my scalp w/out having to squeeze out drops from the old dropper system. Also, the bottle is made of plastic so it is much safer to have around w/out the fear of any accidents in the bathroom!
2. Since this solution is a liquid formula instead of the serum-like consistency of old, it spreads around the scalp easily. Also, it is not sticky like the Scalp Remedy of past. Another plus is that it doesn't have a strong peppery scent like most of Aveda's hair products which is great for me!
3. My scalp becomes irritated either due to just being relaxed or changing of the seasons. I have found that the scalp and general irritation cease after a day or two on this product.
4. The price at $24 is not cheap by any means! However, since this product works wonderfully for my scalp I will of course make concessions!

This product did not work for me. All gung-ho just after I bought it, I applied a good deal after a night shower and had the most greasy, disgusting hair the next day. I tried, after that, applying less, but there was no change in my scalp's condition. I stuck it out with this and applied it in different amounts, at different times of day, but never saw any results. I finally returned it, as twenty-four dollars is a fortune for a tiny bottle of something that doesn't work.

I love Aveda, but this made no positive difference in my itchy scalp, and the applicator wasn't that helpful, got all over my hair instead of my scalp.

I recently tried the newer packaging and formulation, and I must say, it doesn't compare to the old glass bottle formula.
Aveda changed the active ingredient from zinc (like in head and shoulders) to salicylic acid. The SA is much less effective and require more frequent application. At $24/bottle of water and SA, I must say that I will not be repurchasing.
The old formula was equally expensive but only required a 1-2X/week application- much better than the 1-4X DAILY that is recommended for this new stuff.

I haven't tried the repackaged Scalp Remedy, but I have to review the original package (with the eyedropper applicator). This stuff is a Godsend! My scalp is ALWAYS itchy, due to a variety of things (some environmental, some not) and this stuff is amazing.
I put this on at night and my scalp stays itch-free all day, even if I don't use the shampoo and conditioner (I like to switch it up with the Blue Malva set). It smells kind of minty too, in a non-offensive way.
The old packaging sucked but I'm thrilled that Aveda has recently gone away from the eyedropper package for a spray. I will most definitely repurchase, as I absolutely love this.

This is for the new Scalp Remedy in the improved pump-bottle packaging. First off, the pump bottle is very convenient, and makes application to the scalp a breeze. I can target a problem area very easily with the nozzle and concentrate the remedy right where it needs to go. It is an expensive product, but I will only use this as an emergency treatment, so my hope is that this will last a good, long time. Now for the product. I get INSTANT relief from this product!! The salicylic acid must be doing its job. I mean really, I put this on, and my scalp goes "aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!"...There are lots of botanical oils in this formulation, but the product isn't greasy at all, so it works well as a leave-in. I would rather use this than Scalpicin since the nozzle is so handy and there are so many natural ingredients here. Thank goodness Aveda came to its senses and brought this product back!

I don't understand the packaging; the dropper thing is weird. I'm not even really sure if this did anything to my scalp, I felt like my head felt the same either way-not any better.

i love this. for me it was a matter of training myself to rub this on the itchy spot instead of scratching. problem solved. further, i dig the packaging and don't really care about the dropper since i just use a teeny bit at a time.

Anyone who has scalp problems knows what a life saver this product is. I did have a couple of flaky patches but the worst was an itchy patch that drove me nuts and sometimes would bleed because I scratched it so much. I switched to scalp benefits shampoo which helped alot but the itchy patch would still bother me. I used this a couple of days and this COMPLETELY cured it. If you have any kind of scalp problems-give this a try. Also, I would like to add that the packaging (glass bottle and dropper) does not bother me. I prefer the glass over plastic and the dropper allows you to put the tonic exactly where you need it.:)

I've had my bottle of this for months, rec'd to me by my stylist for dry scalp relief. Well, it never did much for me until this morning when I woke up with *winter hair*...my roots had that dry, flat, static-y look. Gross & totally unmanageable. Out of sheer desperation, I put a few drops of Scalp Remedy along the part-line & voila! My hair was fixed (with no residue...just nice fluffy roots)!!! I have a newfound respect for this stuff...great for emergency use! continued >>

I got this cause of the good reviews it got. I'm very pleased with the results - all you do is massage it into your scalp/problem area and go. The only thing I don't like is the dropper (just like everyone else). It's a really thick liquid and it would be better in a regular bottle (like lotion). It has a refreshing minty scent and one bottle will last a long time. Give this a try if nothing else has worked for you.

Although I love the scent of this, it just irritated my scalp like no tomorrow.

I cannot find this in Canada; however, I purchased my bottle on ebay. I have fine hair and my scalp can get dry, but because my hair is fine, I hate using dandruff products on the entire length of my hair. I tie my hair back at night and rub this onto my scalp. I rinse it out in the am. It has made a huge difference and I can still continue to use my gentle shampoo. HG.

I've had really bad problems with flaky scalp recently, but one application of this seems to have cured it all! I applied a LOT of Scalp Remedy before bedtime, really massaging it in, then tied my hair back and clipped my fringe out of my face, and went to sleep. In the morning I washed it all out thoroughly with Shampure, and the flakes are GONE. OK, so the dropper isn't perfect, but it would be difficult to find a method of application that actually did JUST get the product onto the scalp. I get this 1/4 of the normal price, so it is VERY MUCH worth it in my opinion! even at full price. It's lovely and cooling when you apply it, and it's a much nicer alternative to using drying, stripping anti-dandruff shampoos. Definitely my HG flake-cure!
