This is great is cooler, dryer weather; it disappears into my skin a few minutes after applying. In summer or high humidity it's way too greasy, though. I personally like the slight glowy sheen it gives; I wear a bit of matte bronzer/powder on top anyway. For a good UVA sunscreen it's reasonably priced; I bought it in Canada. No perfume or creepy smell. Right now, at the beginning of fall, I'm loving it but imagine next summer I'll move on to something else.

Aw, I'm surprised at the bad reviews for this! I'm using the SPF 60 Cream with Mexoryl SX (*not* the cream for faces with Mexoryl XL). It's a very close dupe of the old Vichy SPF 60 formula that was briefly my HG, before they reformulated and made it super-greasy. It has a touch of chemical sheen which is easily covered with a bit of powder, but doesn't have the greasy oil-breakthrough looking shine of the oil-based XL formulas. No scent, no irritation, minimal whiteness. And it's about half the price of the Vichy or the LRP Anthelios 'L' which also has similar ingredients (I haven't tried it, though). At any rate, I find it eminently wearable and it has good protection.
Here are the ingredients of the version I'm using: Enzacamene 5%, Titanium dioxide 4%, Avobenzone 3.5% Mexoryl SX 3.3%; Aqua cyclopentasiloxane, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, glycerin, sorbitol, triethanolamine, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, octyl cocoate, stearic acid, PEG-100 stearate, PVP/eicosene copolymer, potassium cetyl phosphate, glyceryl stearate, aluminum hydroxide, phenoxyethanol, demethicone, tocopheryl acetate, cetyl alcohol, methylparaben, carbomer, butylparaben, disodium EDTA, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, ethylparaben, BHT, propylparaben. continued >>

I tried several Ombrelle sunscreens this summer and my review is the same for them all!
PROS: Didn't burn my eyes or face. No odor.
CONS: Expensive, GREASY, got huge red zits, feels like Crisco on my face and body.

Aaarrrhhhhhhhhhhh! Now I remember why, despite my derm's recommendation, I stopped buying this. Okay, it's got lots of good stuff going for it: high broad-spectrum protection, no smell whatsoever, and I imagine it's moisturizing. Ergo the 2 lippies. But if a suffocating coat of sticky goop is what I've got to pay for that... no thanks. I wore this before a day in the sun, and when I met my boyfriend he said, "you look really HOT" - and he didn't mean sexy. On my face this was like a thick layer of hydrogenated grease. Not much different on the body, and the stickiness is still with you by the end of the day. Matte? I don't think so. Plus it leaves white streaks. Ew, I'll stick to my Dry Touch.

Well, this is fabulous in the cooler months. High spf, good PPD. Then comes summer and NO WAY!!! I am in Toronto and with the humidity, this becomes unwearable. There isn't enough powder on the planet to get rid of the shine. It is heavy, shiny and suffocating if the heat and humidity are on the rise. The search for a high spf/ppd, cosmetically acceptable sunscreen continues.

For those of you who shy away from higher SPF sunblocks due to their greasiness, here's something that will come as a bit of a surprise. I've been a faithful user of Ombrelle sunblock for the last year...specifically the Kids SPF 30 Lotion formulation. I purchased a tube of the SPF 60 cream and only used it on my body because I was afraid it would be too sticky on my face. To my utmost surprise, this stuff dries to a matte finish! It's more matte than the SPF 30 lotion!!! Higher SPF/PPD in exchange for less greaseball effect...works for me!

I've been using this as a facial sunscreen for about a week and so far it's been working very well! I have dry skin that becomes dehydrated easily and this sunscreen hydrates and keeps me from looking parched throughout the day. It does take some time to sink in, so I apply the sunscreen then go about drying and styling my hair. By the time I'm done w/ my hair this has mostly absorbed into my skin, leaving me ready to apply my makeup. It wears more like a rich moisturizer than a sunscreen and it's pleasantly low in scent and doesn't sting. I used to use the Shiseido SPF 55 cream for the face and in the winter it's way too drying, so this is a great substitute. When the humidity increases, I may have to switch back to the Shiseido but for the lower humidity months this is great! EDITED 4/6/2006: Humidity is here and this has become a greasy mess. What once was able to 'mostly soak-in' in the winter now is mostly still sticky on my skin's surface. I'll use this on days where I'm outside a lot but for everyday use I'm going to go back to Shiseido or try Neutrogena. Would I repurchase? Probably, since it's relatively inexpensive and the protection is perfect for my no-makeup gardening days. Of course, I've already discovered that this makes airborne dirt stick to my face. Hmmmm....

I can't wear this in the summer at all due to the greasiness, but now that the weather is cooler, it's working very well for me. I've been wearing it with a layer of sue devitt's primer over top and while it's not matte, the finish is more glowey than grease pit. I know people will read this review and wonder why review spf 60 for the fall/winter rather than the summer when you need it. Well, I like to wear a high spf year round due to a family history of skin cancer, and I have a summer spf HG (shiseido) that is unfortunately a bit too drying for the cooler months. If you really want a matte look to your skin, you'll never be happy with this sunscreen, it just can't give that finish. But pair it with a primer and a desire for dewiness (who can't do with a bit of that in January), and you've got a winner. Oh, almost forgot, no breakouts, not itchiness, no readness from this, at least for me.

Very Very GREASY! Skin could not breathe at all.

i've only been using it for three days or so but i'm not very happy with this sunscreen. I usually use Sea & Ski faces sunscreen and i NEVER looked greasy since my face is not really oily. The only down side to sea and ski is that it's so thick, i had to rub it for a couple of seconds. Anyway i don't think i'll repurchase this sunscreen, cause it's way too greasy. continued >>

I have very sensitive, acne-prone PALE skin. Wearing a US drugstore SPF 30 I can usually feel my skin burning in twenty minutes under direct summer sun. I wore this sunscreen for three weeks in Texas, in Vegas, and in California. The only time I ever felt the need to reapply the sunscreen during the course of one day was at Big Sur, where I was under intense sun by the ocean all day. Cumulatively, I got a little bit of color and some freckling, but I never once burned and I did not break out. This stuff goes on light and smooth, but unfortunately it seems to have some agent that makes it "dry" and turn "non-greasy." Wet it has a light, breathable silken (some would cry "oily") texture, but dry this stuff feels like glue all over your body. Strangely, I could tolerate it on my face under a good coating of Dr. Hauschka powder; in fact the combo made me look both luminous and matte. But on my arms it was sticky city--I was constantly aware of it on me and rushed to wash it off the second I got inside every day. And even though this stuff isn't water-proof, I had to scrub at it with a harsh detergent to get it off me. I may repurchase this, because for the price it is better than Anthelios, but I still prefer the thick cream of Anthelios XL to the sticky, unbreathable "non-greasy" texture of Ombrelle. Also, I should add that back in the humidity of Washington, D.C. a little powder no longer alleviates the shine factor for me--I now look shiney AND cakey. And in the humidity, Ombrelle tends to sweat off and require reapplication. The search for my HG sunscreen continues!

Skin Type: normal to dry, not acne-prone, not sensitive
I am very happy with this sunscreen! I had been usign DDF Organic Sunblock SPF 30 for a couple of years and decided it was time for a change. I received Ombrelle from a sweet swapper and have loved it since day one. The consistency is smooth and creamy (much like a moisterizer) and on me, it isn't sticky at all. It sinks into my skin right away and doesn't leave any greasy residue. Additionally, it doesn't break me out. I live in Florida (AKA Sun Central), skin cancer runs in my family, and I am very pale so I always take extra precautions to protect my skin by wearing sunblock everyday. I am very happy with Ombrelle SPF 60 and plan on purchasing another tube when this tube runs out. continued >>

This is the BEST sunscreen I have ever used! When skiing in the mountains I feel very protected using the 30 Extreme lotion! My skin is very oily and prone to break outs...this does not irritate or break me out at all!!!
It feels great on (not thick or greasy) and it prevents sunburn better than any other sunscreens I have tried. I bought the 60 SPF for my husband who is blonder than blonde (and has the Clint Eastwood hairline) and it worked great when he was working in the Dominican and Greece the last two summers! 10 out of 10 in my books!

So far this is my HG sunscreen for my face. It's photostable and non greasy with a PPD of about 15. I find it a bit shiny, though does dry semi-matte. I put powder on top and it's fine. Definite repurchase. Edit: The weather is hot now and this sunscreen is making my T-zone a grease pit! Looking for something else.

I use this on my body and it is an excellent stable s/s but a bit too greasy for everyday

This might just be my HG sunscreen for body. Besides the high, stable SPF/PPD protection, it dries to a matte finish on my skin (I use it only on exposed body parts like hands, arms, and feet) and doesn't rub off once dried. I love it, will definitely stock up before next summer. Only downside is I have to order Ombrelle from Canada, but it's still pretty cheap. Update: I started using this on my face when I ran out of LRP FE and the strange thing is that it is so shiny and sticky (even my hair sticks to my face), I look like I was dipped in grease. My skin isn't even that oily. Powder is definitely needed to cut down on the shine, which is a pain since I always reapply my sunscreen throughout the day and don't like having anything else on my skin. It also leaves a whitish caste on the skin. Definitely need to stock up on FE again.
