Updated review: First, I am updating this review because I have discovered that this is actually a review for the 50+ tinted melt-in cream. After double- and triple-checking the first time to make sure I had the right product, it seems I still got it wrong. I first questioned it because someone said it was readily available in the US, but I've never seen it. I bought this while in London over the summer, about six months ago, and I've just ordered a second tube from Europe. Perhaps I am missing something? The other thing that threw me off was the mention of the dark tint. I am very, very fair--closer to NC5 than NC15--and this adds just enough color for me to have a glow. I don't think I have a mask, either! So I went ahead and reviewed this product, but the product is the LRP 50+ tinted melt-in cream. When I checked before, I didn't actually go upstairs to check the label--I checked the rest of the reviews, and this was the only one for "tinted melt-in cream." Then someone messaged me to ask me where I ordered this (ebay seller in Europe), and she was really confused because all she was finding was the 50+. All I have ever seen is the 50+, so I am leaving the review here. There is no review for the 50+ tinted melt-in cream, if this is a different thing--I haven't ever seen such a product. I know that they do change the European rules regarding the limits of how high they can say a product's SPF is, so maybe that is the issue. I don't know--maybe someone can solve this mystery? If I shouldn't leave this review here, someone just let me know and I'll take it down. Still, for people with hyper-pigmentation problems like mine, it is an important review, so until I find a better place I'll let it stay.
Anyway, I was very worried it was going to break me out. I am very prone to break-outs, and this "reads" like something exclusively for dry skin. I had previously gone back and forth between Sheseido and the American-available LRP anthelios 60 ultra-light fluid, but when I was in London this summer I ran out and the melt-in cream tinted 50+ was the only Anthelios I could find. The finish is not matte but it does not make me overly shiny when worn under my makeup. The BEST thing about this product, though, is the protection. Now, I have read so many reviews of sunscreens that claim this or that one gave me good or not-so-good protection, and I've always wondered how, after a certain point (i.e. not burning or tanning), you can even tell! My own benchmark is my terrible hyper-pigmentation around my jawline. If I get the tiniest bit of sun it seems to suck it in, and with my pale skin it looks absolutely awful--brown patches. I developed this in 2003 after going on holiday after a series of glycolic peels, and I have been fighting it ever since. Every summer, though, despite using the American Anthelios and Sheseido, my hyper-pigmentation has gotten worse. I can't tell day by day, but one day I will look in the mirror and think that the patches are definitely darker. **This did not happen this summer as the result of using this Melt-in tinted cream Anthelios from Europe.** Now, in January, after six months of use, I can say for the first time in almost 9 years that I can barely see my hyper-pigmentation, and not really at all when my makeup is on. I never thought I'd be able to say this, because every winter I work and work to fade it, and it gets better, but by June/July there has always seemed to be nothing I could do to avoid the sun making it worse--then I'd have to work to correct this over the winter, and the whole cycle would be broken. Now, I won't say that this product alone made my hyper-pigmentation go away, but I know that no matter what treatments I've used, in the summer it would always come back with a vengeance--treatments are only as good as the sunblock with which they are paired, in my experience. So I was using Paula's Choice lightening BHA this summer. I love that stuff, too--but without this Anthelios, I think it would not have worked.

I've been using this sunscreen for nearly a year. I have medium-dark skin (somewhere in the NC40 to NC45 range) and many physical sunblocks leave a white cast on my face. This tinted sunscreen is pretty dark - it almost matches my foundation color - so I don't think this would be suitable for very fair people. This is, hands down, one of the most comfortable sunblocks I've ever used. I've never had any issues with breaking out or sweating, and it doesn't sting when applied. Like many sunblocks, the dry down leaves the skin shiny and a little tacky, to the point where it needs something on top, like foundation or powder.
My biggest issue with it is that it does change the color of my face and make it darker and cooler. I think I may be applying too much - I'll have to experiment a bit more - but because of that, I'm on the lookout for a different sunscreen.

This review is for the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Tinted Cream 50ml (NOT SPF60)
I've been searching for an effective broad-spectrum sunscreen that is photo-stable, elegant and easily found in the US for a long time. I've gone through many brands and this is by far my favorite!
I would describe the consistency as being on the lighter side of a cream. It blends beautifully and on my combination skin leaves a really nice glow. For me I find I don't need to add foundation over this as the tint has just enough coverage for during the day. I add a touch of concealer, powder and blush and I'm good to go.
The tint is a really nice light/beige. For someone super pale/alabaster it could possibly be on the dark side but mixing it with another lotion would do the trick. For 90% of women I would go so far to say that it will match your skin tone beautifully.
I find later in the day I need to add powder about once or twice. Around lunchtime and once in the evening so for me it's no different than a foundation I would wear. It definitely doesn't leave me greasy or oily like other sunscreens do. It smells nice and the tube is convenient.
The fact that it's 50+ spf with strong protection against UVA & UVB rays makes this a winner for all concerned. The tint, and sheer coverage are an added bonus for sure and I LOVE that we can now get it on Amazon. I give this 4* instead of five only because of the size and price. I would ideally love a bigger tube as the 50ml is not going to last very long - especially if you use the proper allocated amount of 1/4 tsp. On the whole I love it and suggest you try it. I promise you won't be disappointed!

This review is for the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Tinted Cream 50ml
Summer is around the corner and i wanted to get something that would provide some more sun protection than the SPF15 that my current moisturizer has. I did a lot of research online & found this prod. I wanted something that doesn't leave a white cast & doesn't make my already-oily-face looking like a melting butter stick (main reasons why i avoided wearing sunscreen, which is not good, i know). This prod does exactly what i was looking for. Great sun protection does not make my oily face any oilier than it already was. The tinted color provides a sheer coverage which is fine by me, but if you wanted extra coverage you might have to apply some powder/concealer. I wear this on top of a moisturizing serum. This prod leaves a dewy finish.
Overall I am very happy with it. I found it on ebay at a relatively decent price, so i'll continue to purchase this when i am out. continued >>

La Roche Posay Tinted Cream SPF50+ for Sun Intolerant skins
Spontaneous purchase as I was really looking to buy Bioderma compact with sunscreen (SPF50) to cut down on a step to my morning routine for (really hot!) summer. The former not being available at several chemist's in my area, I turned to La Roche in the hopes of using this tinted sunscreen as both sun protection and tinted moisturiser, thus paring down.
Results were so-so as it was excellent in some important regards and annoying in others (read on).
FACTUAL INFORMATION:
SPF: 50+ as stated on the packaging (it used to be 60+ before EU regulations demanded companies change everything to 50+)
PPD (UVA factor protection): 34 (extremely protective)
Recommended for Intolerant Skins
No parabens, no added perfume, water resistant.
Active ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Octocrylene, Senna Alata extract (patented system: Mexoryl SX and XL filters)
Tube of 50ml/1.7oz
*PROS:
1.Emollient, fine texture, like milky cream that melts.
2.Good moisturising properties and (allegedly) anti-ageing thanks to anti-oxidants.
3.Excellent sunscreening ability after repetitive beach testing in intense sun conditions. Therefore excellent for drug photosensitivity and preventing age spots and melasma.
4.No parabens preservatives.
5.Greatly suited to sensitive skin like mine. Not a sign of trouble throughout repetitive use for weeks.
6.The tint looks medium beige out of the tube and is a bit darker than my usual winter NC20 skin (about NC30 I would venture?). But it blends well, evens ever so subtly and looks very natural for summery skin. It doesn't look "white" like many high SPF/Mexoryl sunscreens do.
*CONS:
1.Very shiny (but not greasy) to the point that it required some powdering on top, which defeats the above intended purpose a bit...People with oily skin will hate it, most probably.
2.Makes brow and neck instantly sweat as you put it on (know how that happens with some moisturisers too?), which I personally find extremely annoying in the humidity of a hot summer. This is the reason I'm deducting one lippie and why I don't think I will repurchase for myself, even though I was very satisfied with the protection overall. (Turned out to be the same hassle as if I was using a seperate sunscreen and makeup on top). Also sweating so much would indicate that a quantity of it would slide off which would turn out to diminish the protection, again counter-productive, no?
I hope they create a matter version for those of us with that concern! Myself I will try the Tinted Fluide SPF50+ next and see where that gets me (the regular Fluide Extreme was a tad drying).
3.Contains alcohol which might be a concern for some people (Not me, but everyone deserves to know all the facts).
MY SKIN:
Combination to sensitive, reacts with redness to some ingredients. Not acne/pimple prone. Light toned, NC20 in winter, a tad darker in summer. No wrinkles yet.

I love tinted sunscreens as I don’t really like to wear sunscreen AND make up on top, either heavy make up at day time. I tried Bioderma tinted / Avene tinted and some others , this one is best. If you look for good coverage – this is not for you.Color will be great for MAC 20 and up - will be way to dark for pale-light skin.
My skin is very sensitive & reactive, clog-prone & extremely easy breaks out, combo but very dry-flaky around my mouth.
This s/s give me -GREAT finish / no flaky skin / no need for make up / color match me well .The BEST is - no break out..
UPDATE - LOVE this - make my skin so soft and none problems with break outs. continued >>

I have been using this tinted sunscreen for at least 10 years thanks to an advise of my clever dermatologist and I think La Roche Posey was the first brand to develop something like makeup and sunblock in one. I sometimes use tinted sunblock creams from Avene and Bioderma but I always come back to Anthelios. In fact all these products are very similar in terms of sun protection. All of them protect my reddish face/mostly cheeks and nose/ very well. Since the rest of my body gets nice tan, I am very particular of the color of my face during summer. So La Roche has the best shade that suites my cold skin tone, can be easily used in winter months as long as you use self-tanners. It is suitable for dry to normal skin, definitely not for oily because is really shinny. It feels sensible around the eyes so be careful to avoid the eye area/ I always use huge sunglasses/and has to be re-applied during the day especially when you wear sunglasses and you sweat/as I do a lot/. Bioderma is fine as well, the same benefits like La Roche only the color is really dark /even after a load of self-tanner/ and is more suitable for oily skin. Avene has two types of tinted sunscreen, both are fine for normal to dry skin, very similar to La Roche but none of them match my skin tone. The regular one is too orange, for some warm blond type and the sensitive one is really white/ I used it last summer and looked very unhealthy in the pictures/.
Of course La Roche is not the perfect one: It gets sticky, irritates my eyes and sometimes my cheeks get rosacea and generally the packaging is cheap and does not close properly after sometime. But it protects my face, neck and decolt from wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, blends with my sweat invisibly and generally does not bother me whole day long on the extreme sun where I often stay.
Please note, that there is no total sunblock on the market, you can get sunburn even with the highest SPF. Avoiding sun damage is a matter of re-applying, staying out of the direct sun or wearing huge hats and sunglasses. This all I do and still I get to much of sun exposure...

I love this product. I find the tint a bit dark for my fair skin but I mix it with a dab of atopalm and it looks perfect: the result is that it looks natural without the white cast of many high SPF suncscreens.I agree that it can be very shiny but I always wear powder so this is a problem for me. Amazing sun protection, even at the beach.

Great to substitute for my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer if I am getting lots of sun that day. I use a powder over the top due to the shine. It's thicker than foundation, but I like knowing it's there to protect. I freckle immediately in the sun so I know this is working 100% because I get no exposure even out on the lake all day.

Had high hopes due to the good SPF protection and tintedness. At last I thought. An all-in-one foundation/moisturiser/SPF for reactive skin! Alas - not so true. The tint did not blend with my skin tone and my face looks darker than it is and ironically, more tan...it's also very shiny that I've resorted to putting loose powder over it to mattify...The fragrance - it's not so much '-free' as in 'synthetic' smelling. Dying to finish it as it's not so cheap as to chuck it away in anguish.

This is ten million times better than Anthelios Fluide Extreme, which I had dropped down to an average rating. My problem with Fluide Extreme was that it started drying out my skin (which is normal to combo) and it made me look ghost-faced in photos. Not cute. I gave the tinted creme a shot and I'm so glad I did. It hydrates sufficiently and eliminates the need to pair my sunscreen with a separate moisturizer, which is what I had been doing with the fluid. It absorbs quickly, leaving my skin dewy and supple but not greasy. The tint is incredibly sheer, which is what I had hoped for because I didn't want anything that mimics foundation. When I have it on, it just looks like I applied lotion- there is zero evidence of color. There is not enough color to really even out skintone (though I suppose it would for someone who is fair, which I am not), but just enough to counteract any white cast that would appear in flash photography. The prices was decent too- about $20 from pharmamundi.com. Definite repurchase- everything I want in a sunscreen!

After using it the first time today I know I have to write a review. I bought it from Amazon through Pharmamundi which is a very reliable company from Spain. its very expensive but I would rather to spend a little more money for the health of my skin. I have Asian , medium skintone. All sunscreens will leave whiteish cast on my face. I wanted to use some physical sunblock but they will definitely make me look "dead" . So this is the very BEST choice. If you have a pale skin , this tinted version may not be a right choice since the tint is a little dark even for my skin. But I can always dust some white finishing powder over it. The cream gives me a summer healthy tan look. After half an hour, my face looks a little shiny ( in a good way) but it does not feel greasy at all. I think this is the best sunscreen for me. I hope the price will go down when they approve the XL and XS . If any of our lovely ladies on MUA knows a good physical sunscreen suitable to use during pregnancy please let me know because I'm planning to get pregnant next year. Thank you very much.

I bought this tinted sunscreen in spring for it's high SPF factor, thinking it could replace my foundation for the summer. I still needed occasional extra coverage on my blemishes. I used all summer long, even though it felt a bit heavy on my skin. I had to be very careful when applying around my eyes because it made my eyes irritated and teary. It's a good product, didn't make me break out, but I don't think I'll buy it again. I still have half a tube, so even though it's a bit pricey (about 20-25 Euro), it lasts a long time. It is a bit dark for my skin tone, but it made me look a bit tanned, which was good for the summer. But I can't use it in winter, for that reason. Wouldn't suit a very fair skin.
EDIT: I have since discovered La Roche-Possay Anthelios Fluide Extreme, which is my all time favourite non-greasy formula. The best I've ever used.

Edit: Mixing with the fluid extreme to tone downt the tint. IT's not too dark, but on its own, got blotchy in some spots. Mixing with the fluid helps.
Original Review:
Test-driving this sunscreen for the past week and so far:
1) Nice moisturizer, even on its own. Very emollient and perfect for
the chilly wind factor.
2) Tint is lovely. It looks quite dark straight from the tube, but looks
great on my fair, sometimes ruddy skin, and evens it out.
3) I think this is Avobenzone-free, which I appreciate because Avo.
tends to be irritating to me sometimes, especially in the winter.
4) No fragrance!! That's a HUGE plus in my book.
5) Ridiculously expensive, but until the American brands sold
in the drug store improve, worth the price.
6) Shiny, but toned down easily with a bit of mineral make-up.

This cream is a rich, really high spf/ ppd tinted moisturizer. The tint seems much darker in the tube than it is upon application; in terms of coverage, I would compare it to Clinique City Block or Cover Girl Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer---in other words, it's very sheer and should complement a wide variety of skin tones. Rather than giving much color or coverage, the tint seems to act primarily as a counter to the "masking" effect of so many Mexoryl sunscreens. It's much more elegantly textured than Lancome UV expert, with a much higher PPD too. The only drawback for me is the SHINE! It looks very greasy upon application and remains somewhat shiny/ dewy all day long. I don't think powder is an option, since I've heard that the oxides in most makeups quickly degrade some chemical sunscreens, including avobenzone and blotting papers lift off the oil-soluble sunblock ingredients along with the shine. (I'm going to be looking into alternatives, like Japanese rice powder makeup, at my local health food store.) However, my combo/ acne-prone skin did not react to this at all, so that's a major plus. I imagine folks using retinoids would also appreciate the moistness of this product. Unlike many untinted Mexoryl sunscreens, I'm also able to reapply this throughout the day without obvious buildup/ masking. Despite the drawback of shine, I place a premium on protecting my skin (especially given my love of the outdoors), so I will continue to repurchase until a better tinted Mexoryl sunscreen comes along.

This product has an amazing finish, as the other reviewer has mentioned. Everyone has commented on how beautiful my skin looks, it does indeed act like a beautiful tinted moisturizer, even better than many I have tried. So great on that end. Great sunblock as well! The only problem is you do get a greasy look, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. I bought five bottles and use religiously. Cheers! :-)

I bought this in a rush and an emergency, simply because it was the only high SPF sunscreen available. I was disappointed when I found out later it contains chemical screening ingredients, but at least it means that it isn't too thick or chalky like the physical blocks can be. In fact with its light beige tint and glowy finish, it reminded me more of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser. It didn't really seem like a SPF 60 to me, as I got a little sunburn on my nose from a couple of hours exposure, something I never get with Jane Iredale's titanium dioxide base, which is supposedly only a SPF 20. And after two days wear, I developed a few superficial pimples, undoubtedly due to pore-clogging. So, overall I'm not impressed with its sunscreen or skincare capabilities, but as makeup, it has a remarkably nice finish, not at all sunscreen-like.
