I am surprised by the bad reviews for this because it works great on my skin. It is a tad hard to blend but if you don't use too much at once it works well. I can't stand foundation because it usually feels heavy and greasy but you can barely feel this on and the medium coverage is great without looking too fake.

I have been using seven different TMs and foundations this fall, and I find this is the best controlling oil, and colour #7 is very good. I'm NC20. Laura Mercier oil free TM is another fave.

Is not a good foundation at all!! Does not blend nicely at all. is left on the skin in patches. Offers limited covering. Feels thick. Is strong scented. Not recommended at all.

I really don't like this product for 2 reasons 1) the color 2) it makes me really shiney-how ironic
Ok the colors are odd imo, I'm sure some people will be able to get a match but they just don't appear to come in a variety of beautiful neutral shades, which they should for the price. For me I was kind of torn between #6and #7-btw they numbers are very confusing they don't run light to dark or dark to light they, are all over the place. I'm about NW20 in Mac, I have light skin so if something doesn't match it will be more obvious which is what happened here. #6 was too dark, and #7 was too yellow for me. Second, I have combo leaning on normal skin my skin is rarely oily anymore and if it is it is in my t-zone. With this foundation I was SHINEY, I mean I looked greasey which is rare for me, even my co-worker said you are shining! I've used dewey foundations that are more matte than this matte foundation!
There is only one thing I like about this foundation and that is that it has grapfruit extract in it which the product claims to reduce blackheads, I usually have some on my nose and with this foundation they disappeared. It's a shame everything else is bad about it though. I bought this last year, so this review is actually for months ago and it has fragrance in it so I never would have even purchased it now as that is something I avoid. It seems a lot of designer cosmetics add fragrance. One last thing, I don't think the packaging the gold lid is tackey imo, I know that is just personal preference though...

The color 7 was good for me, for the first 2 hours it looks good and then it gets in my fine lines, it looks oily and the coverage is sheer. I don't think i will buy again because i need more coverage and if i want to add more i get orange circles on my face

When I first got this product I was really happy because I love all YSL products espacially of other experience with their mascaras, eyeliners and lipglosses. But this was one a huge disappointment, the texture was horrible and my skin felt kind of dirty and I hate that feeling that some foundations sometimes give me. Good colur though. And good fragrance but not a very good foundation.

I really don't like this product. It made my face look far from smooth. It almost seemed like the color would spread out in blotches. I now have a mat luquid foundation from Chanel I'm happy with.
Also, foundation gets all over the side of the opening (and I'm conscious about try not to let that happen).
Plus I think the color my SA gave me is too dark.

Very similar product with the ultra matte by dior.Low to medium coverage non powdery cosnistency.Has matte, but not dry matte but kinda satin-matte,finish.Quite pricey and smelly product.Average staying power,I think all the shades are yellow based. Its oil free non drying formula. This foundation keeps my face shine free for 3-5 hours.I like studio fix fluid more

I am NW20. Just tried Mat Purete for the first time today, and it's going pretty well. I am using #8, and it's a good color match, if a little yellow. The coverage is nice and medium. It didn't get greasy by 11am like some others. It didn't get powdery. The only drawbacks: it came off on my clothes a little more than I would have liked. And it didn't have the "glow" that the dior foundations have. But I like the smell, I like the coverage, all in all I think it's worth another try. It really strikes me as a nice everyday option.

I was hoping that this would by HG foundation for my over-40 still ever so oily skin type. This is ok, nothing spectacular. Mattifying properties aren't what they're cracked up to be although the color match (7) is perfect. But color #7 will be too light for me in about a month after I spend some time outdoors. Bottle is difficult to handle I find what with it being square. Pump is nice because you only get out what you need. Difficult to blend without a primer and you can't build it, once it dries it dries! But after a couple hours I'm shiny once again. For the money I won't repurchase. For someone a little less oily it would be a very nice foundation.

MY FAVOURITE LIQUID FOUNDATION EVER!
I have combination skin and this suits well on me, after applying moisturizer.
The shade #7 suits me wonderful, the texture is great and the finish - marvellous!!

in terms of oil control, it's nothing spectacular (although the powder version is much better, but it was just too drying for me). but i'd say it's better than the lancome, chanel, dior and estee lauder ones i've tried.
as for application, it is true that it's pretty difficult to apply a second layer over the first, but you wouldn't want to do that anyway, because i tried dabbing a second "coat" of foundation on some of my zits and the colour went horribly wrong in those areas (it just turned darker and was very visible even though i tried to blend it in). that said, one layer is really enough and a small amount goes a long way because the coverage is really quite good. it's a pretty creamy and thick foundation, so i guess application takes a bit of getting used to as compared to most other foundations.
i reckon this foundation just takes a bit of time to get to grips with, but once i got to terms with the application, the result was fantastic and pretty near flawless. i don't even need to use the clarins primer/base i have. the foundation really does minimise the appearance of my pores and the horrible pitted scars i have on my cheeks from teenage acne.
pump packaging is great, the rectangular glass bottle with a gold cap does look it's price. however, for the price you're paying, the amount you get is pretty little, and it does run out quite quickly (even though i use 1-2 small pumps of it for 3/4 times a week).
the biggest grouse is probably the limited variety of shades this comes in. as i'm between shades, i'd either have to settle for a ghostly pallour or something more tanned.
all in all, it's not as bad as the other reviews have made it out to be, but it's not the best foundation out there either.

i tried to like it but finally i think it's no good, i can't blend it, it's sticky .I have tried all the tricks i know to blend it but stil.. You may like it if you have oily skin, but still it does not adhere well on the t zone, not good. The coverage is medium but if you want to put some more on some areas you can't because the first layer sticks on your finger and peels of. Not nice

Wow, This is the foundation for oily/combination skin that should be use for anyone with this type of skin, it is jus FANTASTIC, my pores look small, my face look smooth all day and no signs of shine, just the right all day glow. I can't believe I finally found a day time foundation for my super oily skin, but don't take me wrong, I have dry spots here and there, I just make sure I moisturize those certain places and leave the oily areas alone, I use English Ideas primer and works very well with this foundation.
WARNING: If you have normal to dry skin, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT, it will flake or over dry your skin, other wise..this is the BOMB product on the market.

Oh, will everyone stop moaning about this product!! The pump is great and the colours are very natural, I wear #5 and it looks gorgeous, everyone says to me I look fantastic and ask about the foundation!!
If there was no pump...., the lasses would moan about the open bottle, with the pumop they want vice versa!!
Just find a nice tint colour and be proud of yourselves!! I am, anyway.
One tip: apply this foundation on a dryish face, not on freshly moisturised, wet skin;-((
I applied on matifying emulsion, it is gorgeous!!
P.S. Of course it will make you go flaky, if you have dry skin, that's what the product is about - for oily/combo skin!!

This foundation does give me a matte finish & it does last well on my combo/oily skin, but it definitely makes my skin look dry & flaky. I feel like it ages my skin as well. On the plus side the #5 shade matches my skin well (I am usually the 2nd lightest foundation shade & fairly neutral toned) & it didn't break me out. continued >>

I've been trying out the YSL products. For the most part, I've been impressed.
Pros -
GREAT coverage.
Nice colors.
Adhers very well to the skin.
Very matte.
Cons -
Very, very difficult to blend.
Illuminates dry skin.
Dries out dry skin even further.
Sort of "dead" finish.

Blends easily but don't really covers pores well enough. my t-zone still getsshiny after 1 hour of application and the color does run abit. The name "matt" does not applys to this foundation. Don't really like the pump design, as single pump of foundation is not enough and twice is too much(wasteful).

I tried it for the first time today and I am so impressed!
The texture is sooo devine and it feels absolutely exquisite!
The shade selection in this range is much better than before, I tried #6 and it's a pretty close to perfect match.
It's oil-free and leaves a soft matte finish (not matte matte like DPF, quite natural actually)
The coverage is light-medium and it's broad spectrum SPF15 (apparently)
Retails for $AU76 in Australia.
Unfortunately this enchances the dry parts of my face quite obviously so I have taken one lippie off. Other than that I am still quite happy with it continued >>
