GAVE ME A RASH ON MY CHIN AND CHEEKS. Not just irritated skin, but a full-on rash. I have never had this kind of reaction to a cleanser before. I have red splotches on my chin and cheeks, which feel tight and painful.

I have very pale, sensitive skin that seems to be getting drier every year. Add in the fact that I work in an environment with recycled air every day...and the water in my apartment building is hard, not soft....I require a cleanser that will not dry out my skin, yet do a good job of cleansing and removing makeup. I don't LOVE this cleanser, but I do like it.
This cleansing milk is a white liquid that you apply directly to dry skin (and the bottle says, "Apply liberally".) I noticed among the ingredients such things as Almond Oil, and it is indeed moisturizing. When I rinse the Cleansing Milk off my skin...either by warm washcloth or just splashes of water...my skin looks hydrated and even and comfortable.
There is a slight chemical scent to it, but nothing overwhelming, and I do like the flip-top bottle. Its not cheap...but its not very expensive, either. I'm always on the search for a great cleanser so I may not buy it again...but that is NOT due to performance. If you have drier/reactive skin, I recommend it.

If you have very dry, sensitive skin this cleanser is for you. This leaves your face smooth and moisturized. No tightness or flaking. I have ben using this product for the last 3 mths and it has definitely made an improvement in my skin. I suffer from eczema in the winter as well and it has been non existent thanks to this. Would definitely recommend.

The first thing that comes to my mind about Kiehl’s Washable Cleasing Milk is how much I paid it: € 24,00 for a 250 ml bottle (=$ 34/8.4 fl. Oz) is JUST TOO DARN EXPENSIVE for what you get!!
In any case, the product itself is pretty good: a very gentle white fluid that leaves my skin feeling fresh and smooth. It also removes my make-up and other impurities pretty well.
I don’t even consider the soapy chemical smell disturbing... I just wish the product wasn't so expensive. For that reason alone, I won't buy this cleanser again, or reccomend it to anyone.

This is a medium thick lotion cleanser that melts into the skin. It spreads easily, cleans well, and rinses off quickly. It doesn't dry out or irritate my sensitive and dry skin. After using it for awhile, it seemed too heavy for my skin, so I no longer use it.

I'm not sure why but this cleanser smells like rubbing alcohol. The Kiehl's SA rec'd it for my sensitive rosacea prone skin while I was buying some lip balm, so I thought I'd try it. It doesn't clean very well at all, like using Cetaphil cleanser to remove makeup. Texture is nice, it's a creamy milky feel but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this product. I'm hoping that I can exchange or return it.

Wanted a cleansing milk for a gentler cleanse so decided to buy this. Cleansing wise, it met it's target. However, there is a chemical smell that is quite off putting when I use it. Because of that, I will not be repurchasing.
UPDATE: This has been breaking me out really badly. Will have to try something less harsh to my skin.

I read good things about this product and hoped it would work for me. It didn't. It didn't fully clean mineral make up off of my face and didn't do anything to make my skin look better. I found it expensive for something that didn't work. I used up my bottle and would not repurchase.

So it's been about two weeks since I switched from Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne wash to this gentle Kiehl's cleanser. I was looking for something that would clean my skin but would also be really nice to my skin (i've got lots of dryness and irritation from tretinoin cream, acne meds, etc). Anyway, the cleanser does a wonderful job at moisturizing the skin. I can even go without moisturizer sometimes! However, I think it might be causing some minor breakouts. I'm going to wait until this weekend to determine if the Kiehl's is worth a repurchase or not. I'm still on the search for the HG it seems :-(.

I finally found my HG cleanser!

I put two and two together a while ago and discovered that sulfates, which are gentle detergents for most people, cause my skin to be very dry, itchy, and tight. This is why even Cetaphil, claimed to be THE most gentle facial cleanser, made my face feel like it was about to crack. I had more luck with CeraVe which doesn't contain sulfates but my face never felt moist after cleansing.

After trying Kiehls Washable Cleansing Milk I don't think I'll try anything else ever again! It thoroughly cleans, yet leaves my skin dewy and moist after washing it off! Unbelievable! I don't find that it leaves a film at all after cleansing. As per the directions, I use a damp, warm face cloth to remove the milk from my face and it works like a charm. The price tag is a little high, but I find the results of the product make it worth it to me. Brilliant product.

I have dry skin with oily areas and found this cleanser left a film on my skin after rinsing. I'd switched to this after using Marcelle's Cleansing Milk for Normal to Dry Skin, which did not leave any film on my face at all. If you have very dry skin, this might work for you. If you have oily areas on your face, I'd stay away from this one.

I like that this cleanser softens my skin. And it doesn't leave a weird film on it like Bliss' milky cleanser. As far as makeup removal, I think it does the job for light makeup. I would use makeup remover or cleansing oil before cleansing a heavily made up face. I have to agree with another reviewer; it smells and has the consistency of Elmer's glue. Overall, I like this product a lot. It can be expensive but I got the large 16 oz. size and it ends up being a pretty good value in that size. I can see this lasting me a year or more especially since I switch to different cleansers in the summer. I have combination skin.

ok, in terms of actual product quality i have no faults with this...i have dry to normal very sensitive skin with occasional breakouts in the t zone, and using the kiehls cleansing milk am and pm for a year, i broke out maybe 2-3 times. and by break out, i mean having one zit. it is fabulously gentle, but really does the job. it's just not so cost effective. i've taken a few months off from using it, and my skin has suffered...grr. get this only if you're willing to set aside some $$$ every few months to get a new bottle.

This product is great for drier skins (for Sahara-dry skins, the Ultra-Moisturizing Cream is recommended instead), and is so mild and even slightly soothing on reddened skin, it reminds me of milk but of course the consistency is thicker than milk! I have oily skin so I primarily use this as a make-up remover for light makeup, or use this on its own if i need to cleanse my face a third time for the day for whatever reason. It doesn't dry skin, and leaves no grease. I was really happy with it. But I give it only four stars because I realise that I did have to use quite a bit of this and it isn't all that economical.

i think this is my HG cleanser. perfect effect with ultra facial mosturizer SPF15. makes dry skin soft, doesnt cause out breakouts and makes my skin very nice. remove make-up very good and is totally gentle. the smell is like nothing. that's nice. the packaging is very nice, too. the hole the milk comes out has the perfect size. i recommend this milk to everyone. maybe a little bit rich for oily skin. but for dry and combo skin very good

I tried this once several years ago and thought it was too rich for my skin. I suffer from clogged pores and breakouts, yet my skin is actually on the normal/dry side and is sensitive to boot. But I thought I needed stripping gel cleansers to get my skin to stop breaking out. I decided to give the Kiehl's cleansing milk another try because I'm older now, and I'm concerned about aging and drying out my skin. In addition, I'm doing the Clear Skin Regimen from www.acne.org (if you suffer from acne you HAVE to check out this website). So I use the cleansing milk as step 1, using a gentle cleanser. Then i use plenty of Benzoyl Peroxide as step 2, and follow it with the new Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, which I love so much more than the Ultra Facial Lotion. I'm so glad I gave this cleanser another try. It makes my skin feel really soft and look glowing after I use it. I prefer it to Cetaphil, which feels really watery and synthetic on my skin. It says it's not intended for eye makeup removal, so I use a separate eye makeup remover before using this. I buy the large bottle at $24 for 16.9 ounces, a bargain! The trick is to use a good amount of the cleanser, otherwise it'll absorb into your skin like moisturizer (you use it on dry skin, then wash it off). This might be the answer to my problem of dry yet acneic skin. UPDATE: 12/20/08 - I bought another bottle of this, and I noticed that it has a chemical smell to it that it didn't have when I last purchased this. I see that recent reviewers of this product have commented on this smell too. It makes me wonder whether they changed the formulation. That smell turns me off to this product too, especially when it could mean that they've added a chemical ingredient that might not have been in there before.

I love this stuff - I have been using it for a while after having been warned off foaming cleansers which were giving me dry scaly patches (lovely!). I use it in the morning, wiping it off with a hot flannel. This way it leaves my skin fresh and smooth with no tightness. I follow it up with one of the Kiehl's toners and their Ultra Facial Moisturizer.
A little goes a long way (I have had the large size bottle about six months and I'm just thinking now about getting a replacement), but it's a lot of money to lay out in one go.

I have to say this cleanser is the best non-foaming cleansing milk I've tried. It leaves my skin feelings soft and hydrated. It's even better than the L'Occitane cleanser! Just watch that you don't get it everywhere because it's a thinner consistency than other cleansing milks. I have normal/dry skin and I think I would like it even more in the fall/winter seasons.

started using this after Cetaphil, yes cetaphil, was too drying. love it for fall and winter, twice a day, still trying to decide how it will be as humidity and heat flare up here in the city. so far so good, certainly doesn't dry me out like some of the most gentle products can even do. this is cheap stuff too!
