While I think the packing could be improved for for better dispensing and make last longer, I LOVE this product. It is one of a kind. I have a short pixie and it aloows me to have more control and style many more various ways. Even though the price is on the high side, I cannot live without it!!

I happen to be an Aveda hair product junkie and when I read about this new product in a magazine I knew I had to try it out. It was way, way expensive ($30) but I shelled out the money anyway. I have to say after buying it I didn't know what to make of it. It didnt' seem to do anything for me really. So, I let it sit on my "Aveda product shelf" in my bathroom closet. Recently, I read on the Aveda web site about another new product, Pure Abundance Volumizing Hair Spray, and there was a Usage Tips section. In it, a stylist said to mix Phomollient with Control Granules and apply throughout hair. Blow dry and then use the Hair Spray to finish. Well, I decided since I had this pricey product in my closet I'd check it out. I mixed the Phomollient with the granules and blew dry till damp dry. I then took out small diameter velcro rollers and rolled up my hair. (I have fine, blonde just above shoulder length layered cut hair). I used a diffuser and dried the hair on the roller the rest of the way. I then let the hair cool and rest on the rollers while I did my makeup. I then thought, "Why not spray some Air Control Spray on it before I take the rollers out to set them?" so I did that. Then pulled out the rollers and finger combed them. Then I used some Brilliant Humectant Pomade on it to texturize. Then sprayed with Air Control again. Then I ran out to my local Aveda salon and purchased the new Pure Abundance Hair Spray and added that. I ended up with a tousled, curly look with a lot of texture and volume. Love it!! Sounds like a lot of products and work, but actually it only took about 15 minutes (part of the time was while it sat in rollers cooling while I did my makeup) and was relatively easy. The combination of products gave me a lot of volume and did not weigh my hair down at all. So, I guess I now have a way to use up my Control Granules!!! :-)

This product, while ridiculously expensive, is worth the price for the volume alone. Beyond that, it lasts and lasts, holds all day, and you don't need much of it (justifying the price). This is the only Aveda product that I've ever wanted to rp.

Tames down the little 'frizzies' so well.. It is expensive, like all Aveda Products, but I just am obsessed with this brand so I could not resist. I use it as a finisher..

I docked this stuff a point because it is ridiculously expensive. However, it's also one of the most unique products I've ever encountered, so I guess Aveda is charging accordingly. This is the PERFECT stuff for messed up, textured hair with volume. I love it with my super-short hair, and I might even buy it again despite the price because I like the results so much.

this is THE best styling product for my heavy asian hair! really creates volume and it lasts all day too! its very pricey but i would definitely repurchase. packaging could be improved cos currently you can't really control how much you pour onto your hair since you can't feel nor see the granules when pouring. what i do is pour it onto my hand and very quickly dust it on my hair....and voila! just out-of-bed messy hair!!!! LOVE IT!

I really wanted to like this but it was sticky and made my hair frizzy. It did add bulk and hold but I could not deal with the frizz. I have straight, shoulder length layered hair.

I haven't actually bought this but the Aveda S.A. put some in my hair last time I was there and I may just need to pick some up for myself soon while it's still available (it's only around for a limited time). This had the effect that I wanted from Tigi Sexed-Up Body Building Tonic. Real VOLUME!!! Puffed-up-at-the-roots, sexy, messed up model hair. It's not something I'd want to use every day, because it definitely decreased the shine in my hair and I could feel grittiness at my roots, but it would be fun to have this around for special occasions. And another thing I liked about it was that it only had a few simple ingredients. Very cool. My only complaint: Why the heck does it have to cost $30?!!!

Love this too! It gives me that extra little boost I need..It is a really different product. It feels slightly cool when you put it on...I just tap a bit right onto my scalp where I want the lift and then I just rub it with my finger tips. My only complaint is that it is a bit expensive but I love it and would repurchase...unless I find a similar product that does the same thing for less....

OH! This product is fabulous for texture and body without heaviness and grease. I've been looking for something like this for a LONG time. It gives it texture and volume, perfect "bedroom hair". I like shaking the granules onto damp hands, and then scrunching it into my damp hair. Mixing it with a tad of water seems to work best for me, otherwise, it can make my hair very sticky. The cost is really ridiculous though... that's my only complaint.

This is a great product. I use it on second day hair that needs a little lift. I usually put in on my fingers and them apply to roots in a lifting motion. This take the oilies out and gives a little body. Not sure if I would use it on freshly washed hair, but it does seem to come clean and not leave a sticky residue, so that is definitely a possibility as well.

Very good product that gives you that sexy, slightly touseled/bed-rustled look without using any grease or wax. I do like how it dispenses a fixed amount each time, but I like to have lots of texture, so I find myself re-dispensing several times. Nevertheless, the package is very travel-friendly, easy to use, and clean. I think Aveda, along with Bumble & Bumble, have hands down the best hair styling products on the market. continued >>

I like what this does for my hair when I want that dirty texture, especially with the haircut that I currently have, but the application for me can be a bit messy. The directions generally say to put it in your hands, rub to liquify, then apply to hair, but I find that it's better to powder it directly into your hair if you want the most out of it. Given that, I hate when the powder falls on my shoulders, clothes, or on furniture.
You could get the same texture using a little bit of wax. The difference is how it feels after it's in your hair. The Control Granules are good if you want the dirty hair texture of wax products, but not necessarily the hold (allowing for more movement).

Very interesting product. I think part of the appeal will be that it’s limited edition and only available for a short time. Control Granules is a powder product that you shake out of the container and emulsify in your hands. It turns into “sort of” a liquid, but actually is more like a sticky wet powder and disappears pretty quickly. You can use this one of two ways; either on its own or emulsified into another product, such as a spray gel or styling spray (mix the two in your hands, then apply). I’ve tried it both ways and don’t have a strong preference for one over the other. You can also use it on wet or dry hair. So far I have only used it on wet hair before styling. This does give really nice texture and thickness to the hair. However, it gives a VERY matte finish. I usually feel like I need to add a shine product after this so my hair doesn’t look quite so “dead”. I can see this being great for a beachy, textured look and kind of a bedhead style. Haven’t tried this yet, but I think it would be great to revive day-after hair if you didn’t feel like washing it. Neat product that is worth a try.
