love Nars lippies. most of the colours are quite unique and fashion forward but very flattering imo.
the sheer finish lipsticks are fairly moisturizing but for the others I need a lip balm underneath as I have very dry lips.
My favourites are Gypsy, Viridiana, Casablanca. The cult shade 'Dolce Vita' doesnt show up on my pigmented asian lips at all, which is a shame.

Simply put - NARS needs to stick to making blush. That's about all they are good at, imo. Eyeshadows are OK, but the lipsticks - awful. Terrible smell, as if they are old, terrible drag, colors selection is a bit weird, and WAAAYYY too EXPENSIVE, even if they were good - 20 something dollars is just too much for a lipstick. Any drugstore brand (like NYX, for example) is MUCH better. Sorry, NARS, just keepin' it real.

I just got my first shipment of all types of NARS products and I have to say that these lipsticks are a huge disappointment to me. I received the color tanganyka but the color is abit irrelevent since the smell of the product was horrible and it would not spread on my lips at all. I returned it and got a replacement which was only, shockingly, marginally better. That is to say, unusuable. I will never repurchase a NARS lippie (although I was delighted with the blushes...thats a whole other review though :) ).

Nars lipsticks are so-so in my book, especially at $23 a pop. I have tried Flair (sheer berry red stain w/slight gold shimmer) and Honolulu Honey (matte peachy nude). HH was drying, but that is expected with matte lipsticks. However, for $23 I expect something that does not go bad so easily, because when they do, they smell SO bad. Also, even when they are still fresh, they have a nasty taste, so be careful not to get any in your mouth. The packaging feels cheaper than comparably priced lipsticks from other lines (MAC, LM, even Clinique). The plastic just feels like it would crack or split easier because it's thinner. I do like the rubberized feel of Nars packaging, although I admit it does attract dust and dirt easily. Anyways, I put "would repurchase", but only at a reduced price through eBay or swapping. They're okay, but not the best lipstick on the market.

Pretty colors but way too drying. Would not repurchase.

I have stopped purchasing NARS lipsticks, solely on the fact that they smell nasty. Like plastic, and the rubber containers from NARS get super dirty and gross. I find the lipsticks texture kinda cruddy too. The colours are all too dark or too flat for my tastes.

I really like NARS lipsticks. Unlike the reviewer below, I have never smelled any scent at all in the NARS lipsticks that I have purchased. And I own probably 15 of them. Maybe the last reviewer got some old stock that had been sitting on a department store shelf for a really long time or something, I don't know. By the sound of her description it sounds like they got old and went bad. I purchase all of my NARS lipsticks from Sephora.com or NARScosmetics.com, and they have always arrived in perfect condition with absolutely no scent at all. I have tried many lipsticks in my life, and as far as color and quality, NARS ranks up there as one of the best! :)

although NARS has a broad color range... the quality of these lipsticks is mediocre at best... not only are they extremely drying, but they tend to have an awful stench (similar to vomit)... i have purchased about 5 of these lipsticks and i adore both barbarella & masai... it's really disappointing to find colors that you like, but can't wear... i will never purchase another one of these and i would not recommend this brand to anyone.. continued >>

NARS seriously has the best range of colors--unique and interesting but nearly always wearable. The texture of the lipsticks is smooth, but also quite dry. I prefer that in a lipstick since more moist (*ew* hate that word but couldn't think of another to use here) formulas slide off more easily and I dislike reapplying lippies. It will dry out your lips and emphasize flakes, so be sure they are moisturized, smooth and exfoliated pre-application. There is no taste and only the faintest of 'lipstick' scents. Pigmentation is great and the formula is such that you can wear these sheerly or build them up. The packaging is luxe and modern--soft black rubber with that iconic NARS lettering. These are very expensive, but are high-quality items and worth every penny.

Beautiful colours, so I got one. But it dries out my lips. Also, it melted on me. And is expensive. :(

I am loving NARS lippy's!
I find that they last quite well, and when they do wear off, they leave a very pretty stain. Some lippy's on me fade and go patchy, not these.
I like the sheer type formula ones best, as I do have very dry lips. I have the Rapture Palette and love Gypsy and Dolce Vita.
I will definitely purchase these two. The texture and colours are just great.
The Pigalle one in the palette is more matte, and therefore a tad drying on me. But it still fades to a very pretty and natural looking stain.
Great lipsticks. Probably the best ones I have tried.
EDIT:
Updated to say, unfortunately they did dry out my lips - after I had worn them for a day or so, I had the usual problem, dry, peeling lips.
Such a pity b/c I really love the colours especially Gypsy and Dolce Vita.

Love my "Funny Face" which is a fab deep hot fuschia pink, creamy deep colour formula. It lasted well all night long - even through a meal and drinks. I put on around 7:00 pm, got home at 2:00 AM, looked in mirror first time all night, and it still looked good - strong colour, still a clear lipline hadn't blurred. See my party picture where I'm between two gents. I also have Venice which is a frosty pink (think paris hilton, if you can bear the thought), which I found a bit drying - must be the frost ingredients. Will definitely buy other lipsticks from the line.

The best lipsticks on the market. Great texture, long lasting, and heavily pigmented. The color selection is amazing and the formula won't dry out your lips.

My all-time favorite lipstick! They ARE expensive, but I think they are worth every penny. The texture is impeccable - just the right amount of creaminess without feeling heavy. The majority of the colors are elegant and extremely flattering. I'm a PPP and my favorite shades are Dolce Vita, Mitzi and Red Lizard. Damage is a fun shade for fall/winter.

I had such a quandry trying to decide what to give these lipsticks. I wanted to give them a 5 but there is a small problem. The lipstick in the tube is comepletely different than what you get in a pallete. I don't like that. It's not the color. NARS makes the most amazing colors of any line in my opinion. The reds are completely wonderful. I half half of my collection in tubes and half in pans. The ones in the tubes are mosturizing and apply like a dream. The ones in the pan are soooooo dry. dry as desert. I find I can put them on and when a blot, nothing comes off! The color is still there but I always have the feeling theres nothing on my lips, the texture is so dry. So I took a lippie off.
Some colors worth trying: Dolce Vita-a brown with a little pink-your lips but better. Not a dramatic lipstic but something you can wear with everything.
Fire Down Below- A Perfect Red that will not turn fuschia. its not orange. its not blue. its just RED
Pigalle- A brown neutral that would be good for ladies who want to do smokey eyes and nude lips but lighter nudes like beige wash them out
Gypsy- A red for people who are afraid of red.
Barbarella- A fun light peach

SCHIAP...Very highly pigmented crazy hot pink. I am probably one of the very few who are nuts enough to shell out $22 for a vibrant lipstick that they probably would never wear. But this one works...I put on a ligh layer and then apply a nude lipstick over it and it makes a very natural pinkie lipstick. I get loads of compliments when I wear it.

NARS lipsticks are the best! They last long but aren't too drying. I have Cabaret, Congo Red, and Tangier.

Wow. I was blown away by the texture of these lipsticks. I really didn't think they'd be that great but I was wrong. These go on super smooth and I didn't find them drying like some people. Great color selection but a bit pricey.

Excellent color selection - in particular, check out the reds, they're absolutely gorgeous. I never found a red lipstick I could wear until I tried the NARS line. Quality is wonderful - great texture, long lasting, and heavily pigmented. They could be just the bit more moisturizing, but I can't really complain.

Yeah, they're a little pricey, but for these unique colors, the wonderful texture of the lipsticks, and their last-ability, I'll pay the price. I have Gipsy (a sheer pretty red), Catfight (pale pink that I usually wear Sweet Dreams gloss over), and Dolce Vita (one of those "my lips but better" looks). Very nice & highly recommended! continued >>
