i wouldn't recommend this product to anyone who has dry skin. the matte finish is horrifying. i want a moisturizer to have a brightening (as opposed to dulling) effect.
the consistency of the product is fine, until it gets on your skin! it has a sticky, filmy feel that is just outright unpleasant. i thought i'd like this product since i'm a huge fan of the jojoba oil, but it just isn't the case. not recommended and definitely will not repurchase.

I love this face cream, I have tried so many moisturizers that either leave my skin either shiny/greasy and seem to sit on the surface or dehydrated and without enough moisture. This cream leaves me hydrated with a matte, calm finish to my skin and it never makes my face look red or blotchy as I have found with other products in the past.
It works well without make-up almost giving me the same finish as a primer, but it is also a great base for foundation.
The ingredients haven't broken me out or irritated my skin and the huge tub lasts such a long time, even using it twice a day. Would completely recommend.

Can't say much about this product since I just picked it up today. But one thing that got to me so much so that I just have to write a review about it....THE SCENT!! I opened it and it didn't smell like anything at first- unscented, like the package said. When I put some on my fingers, i notice this very distinct smell, that smelled like....sweat/spit! It smells so disgusting. Picked it up at my local Super Supplements and the lid looked kind of dusty. I don't know if it's been there too long or what..but oh! the smell! I wanted my brother to try it and he immediately washed it off and asked for my perfume 'cause the smell just doesn't go away!! :(

PROS: Good price. Natural ingredients. Very moisturizing but doesn't leave me very oily. Feels very good going on. Very light, pleasant fragrance.

CONS: Some won't like that it comes in a jar, but my hands are clean when I use this. So I don't mind. Started to notice I was getting red spots/patches from this that would appear about 2 minutes after application and go away for the most part after about an hour. I had a similar but more extreme reaction to Alpha Hydrox 10% cream. The only ingredient that is in both that I could see was "stearic acid." So this must not be for me, personally.

ALTERNATES: My favorites for anti-aging are L'Oreal Age Perfect SPF15 Day Cream in the white jar or Age Perfect Night Cream in the blue jar.

Since being on roaccutane I have developed some flakiness (but still had some underlying oiliness) and was on a hunt for a cream that was moisturizing without being too heavy and most importantly not cause acne nor blocked pores.
I have found exactly what I need in this cream.
When I first applied it, it felt like a heavy cream but my skin just soaked it up without leaving any greasiness.
On a couple of occasions there has been a tingly sensation for a minute or so. I've put it down to the roaccutane causing some skin sensitivity.
I love how there aren't any added fragrances, there really isn't any need for that stuff.
I really hope my skin continues to love it after I get off my medication :)

I wanted to love this. Lots of natural ingredients, no major smell, nice (for me) tub so I can get every bit out, feels smooth when you put it on, absorbs quickly...

And therein lies the problem. You put it on and ZOOP! Five minutes later it is gone. So you out more on. Zoop! Gone in five minutes. Lather rinse repeat.

It feels great during the five minutes that it is absorbing, but then your skin sucks it up and it just goes away, leaving an ever-so-slightly waxy (but non-moisturized) feeling in its wake.

I wish it worked better, or at least lasted longer, because in addition to all of those attributes, it's pretty cheap for a face cream that isn't comprised of mostly mineral oil. But the staying power, and thus hydrating power is almost nil. Will not repurchase and do not recommend.

I LOVE this moisturizer. Why aren't all lotions in jars that let you get every last drop without a fuss? Not only that, but most moisturizers make me break out, whether or not they are oil free. This one I can use every day, it is not greasy at all, it leaves my skin really soft, and I don't see any adverse effects. Best moisturizer ever!

Still on the quest for a cruelty-free alternative to Olay Classis Sensitive Skin. My skin is quite sensitive but otherwise 'normal', so I just need a basic moisturizer. I seem to react to many moisturizers containing sunscreen. As a result, my preference is for non-SPF products, and I apply a baby sunscreen as needed.
I picked this up after trying the tester a few times in my local New Seasons to get a feel for whether I would react. I am very glad I did. It's a light cream with a pleasant, mild scent. It sinks into my skin very quickly and leaves a matte finish. The moisturizing is just right for my skin and not at all greasy. A little dab normally does for me, though I apply a bit extra if it's particularly dry out. I'm not in love with the container as I don't care for tubs, but I can live with it. I will definitely re-purchase.

Just started using it. I do have sensitive skin type but no reaction to the cream. Moisturizing but not heavy. Would buy again.
Update May 2012
Starting to find that it is not moisturizing enough. The good thing is that it is still not causing a reaction against my skin; however because I am finding it not moisturizing enough means I will probably not purchase again.

I try hard to buy only cruelty free products, and it can be tough to find a good quality, affordable cruelty free moisturizer. So, I was excited to try this after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, my sensitive skin didn't react well. Like a few others, I experienced itching, redness, and irritation. Fortunately, the irritation passed pretty quickly, but it was bad enough that I will definitely not try this product again. So...I'll keep looking for that perfect moisturizer.

My skin loves aloe so I was glad to find this, and eager to give it a go. Unfortunately, I had the same problem as a few other people - this made my skin itch as I applied it, and within minutes my whole face was bright tomato red. I immediately washed this off and spent almost 10 minutes splashing cold water on my face, but the discomfort wouldn't go away. I have since smeared a huge glob of my good old trust Vanicream (I SHALL NEVER CHEAT ON YOU AGAIN!) and taken antihistamines, and my face still looks like a very bad sunburn. Horrible, I've never had such a bad reaction to a product before. I'm glad I have the rest of the weekend to try to make it go away before I have to show my face in public again.
Stay far far away if you have sensitive skin. Don't be fooled.

I wish these damn stupid companies would get it through their heads that just because something is 'natural' it cannot translate to harmless. In the hysteria to stop using parabens they turn to more 'natural' products that are highly irritant and less stable (not to mention less studied) for no reason. Ugh.

Consider me part of the fanclub. I use this as a night moisturizer after my retinoid pads. Doesn't break me out and keeps me skin soft till morning. Love the price and the ingredients. Keeps my skin more moisturized than many other much more expensive brands. HG product. I wish it wasn't in tub form, but that is only a minor complaint compared with the benefits.

Uggggh, so bummed this one was a bust. I really was hoping this would be my HG night cream since so many other reviewers seem to love it. I did my usual wash routine and slathered this on and immediately my face and neck started to itch like crazy. I thought maybe it was just because it was a muggy evening and my skin was being weird. When I woke up the next morning my blemishes looked worse and my skin felt kind of sticky, like the cream never absorbed fully. Glad I only paid six bucks for it! Oh well, still hunting for that perfect, inexpensive, natural HG moisturizer.

Yes!!! HG moisturizer! This deserves a standing ovation. Also, let me be clear that this product has gotten a bit of a makeover over the years. It no longer looks like the packaging up top. It's got a much more sophisticated jar now and the ingredients are now all natural! No parabens, sulfates, or whatever... Anyway I wanted to try this because of the reviews stating that the skin "drinks it in." Oh my goodness that is so right! The moisturizer sits on your skin for about 15 seconds, then seeps into your skin revealing no shiny residue, no greasy feeling, and no excess tightness from too little moisture. The jojoba oil is fantastic and moisturizes throughout the whole day. The only problem I have with it is that I wish it were in a pump so it were more sanitary, and also the top seal when you initially open it is hard to get off unless you poke it with a pen or something. But other than that, great moisturizer! And for the price (I paid $7 at the Vitamin Shoppe), you will not be disappointed!

Lovely and gentle, fragrance free, second ingredient (after water) is aloe juice. Leaves my skin a little bit tacky, not dry and smooth, but I actually like that slightly moist feeling. Also makes a great, non greasy hand cream.

PLEASE help me out! I'm currently using the Acne.org regimen and the moisturizer from that line just isn't working out for me. Does anyone know if I could use this in place of it? I really love the texture, but since my skin is so dry and irritated right now, it's extremely hard to spread. (I just add tons of jojoba oil in it before applying to my face). The first two times I used it, my face broke out but I'm really not sure if it's because I switched moisturizers or my skin is still not under control. Apparently it has never caused anyone else breakouts, so I'm guessing I'll be safe using it? If anyone else is on the acne.org regimen or has oily & acne-prone skin that knows an excellent moisturizer, please let me know! Many thanks! :)
Oh & ps. Did Desert Essence change the packaging of this moisturizer? When I went to Whole Foods, the only one I could find was the jar in the second picture (not the pinkish one that's displayed first). I looked up the ingredients and they are the exact same though! continued >>

This must be my HG moisturizer. I cannot believe how much I LOVE this. I HATE moisturizers and can only bear a few. Most break me out, make me feel oily, and don't even do their job - moisturize. Ugh. But this, this is amazing. And the tub is so huge for like 6 dollars. It's a steal. The only problem I could ever see with this is for someone who has extremely sensitive skin because the oils might irritate them. You look at the ingredients and see so many oils lol but they will not clog! Don't be afraid of oils.
This is soooooo great, though. At first I put it on and then I thought it was not enough moisture - it soaks in IN FRONT OF YOU in like 4 seconds. I kept applying more and more lol, which isn't necessary. It soaks in and might even feel tighter, but after 10 minutes your face feels so moisturized and soft. I wake up with an almost matte, and very healthy looking face.
Gah, I just love it. <3
Edit - I reviewed this in May 2011, and it is February 2012 tomorrow and I just want to say I still ADORE this moisturizer. Hands down the most important item in my entire regimen. I can change my cleanser or my makeup, but this, this ALWAYS stays. I still love it and use it every day :) continued >>

Love that is jojoba oil is in this moisturizer. For an all natural product (which I also love) it is very moisturizing and soothing. If I wasn't set on having antioxidants and other nutrients for the skin in my moisturizer this would be my all time favorite.
Will continue to use off and on.

I love this moisturizer. Sometimes it's not quite enough, but I just add a little jojoba oil to it and it's perfect. It has never made me break out and is very cheap. I have repurchased several times and will continue to.
