I've always loved liquid eyeliner but somehow I've never really improved my technique. I think L'eyeliner is ideal for people like me because of its small and forgiving paintbrush. The result lasts and it never flakes, even in the 'flick' portion which is usually the first to go! It really is an especially black and matte (yet not dead-looking) liner, yet if you act fairly quickly it isn't difficult to fix your mistakes. A decadent but worthwhile product, I think!

Would I buy this product again? I already have! I have had a back up sitting in my drawer for over a year now. Having said that, I have been on the same eyeliner tube for nearly two years now and it still has the same fluidity, colour and staying power. Hands down my HG black liquid eyeliner. At first I was so afraid of the thin applicator brush but now I couldn't be without it. Takes practice but you will reap the benefits. Stays on all day, does not smudge, and wipes away clean when you wash your face. Excellent product and lasts so long that the price it totally justified.

Severe allergic reaction to this. Swollen eyelids, skin peeling and dry on eyelids leaving dark red line where eyeliner used. I have found this reaction to cheap drug store brands- Revlon etc. Surprised that a high end brand would be like this. 2 thumbs down. Id expect an expensive product like this to be hypoallergenic.

I am a YSL addict.. and the packaging, Im afraid to say ALWAYS sways me, even if the product is not up to par. In this case Id give this 3 lipticks. 1 lipstick for the delicious gold packaging, 1 lipstick for the glide-ability and glossiness of the liquid, and 1 lipstick for the fact that its YSL however the minus points are that chances are the product will dry out before bottle empty, as the screw lid is sure to get jammed with dried liquid, making the lid over time, hard to close tight, and another minus is the fact the brush could have been a little finer/longer/more flexible

I love the formula so far. It lasts all day and its black and glossy, My only problem is the brush. Im fairly new to liquid eyeliners and this brush was difficult to master :P I guess I have to practice some more. But overall, great liner!

This is definately the best black liquid eyeliner on the market and my HG forever! I had wasted lots of money trying to find a suitable eyeliner both in liquid and gel from other brands and am glad I finally found this one. Although slightly on the expensive side its worth every penny for the quality.
This is the only liquid eyeliner that did'nt flake, smudge or crease and lasts for hours on my eyes (even though I have a slightly oily eye area). It applies very smoothly in opaque matt black with a perfect texture, not watery and not thick either.
The brush is great and easy to use (but could have been a touch shorter) and allows to create the perfect cats eye. If you need to touch up mistakes its easily done with a slight damp cotton bud, and comes off easily with cleanser when you are ready to take it off.
Truly beautiful and perfect product, just love it and wish I had come across it sooner!

ommggg i have been searching for a perfect liquid eyeliner with a decent brush since my EL ran out and became discontinued...i absolute love this ysl...its pitch black formula perfect...and easy to apply and picks up enough liquid for me to do a line in one go! also the brush is what makes it perfect nice and thin so you can control how think you want to make the line...it drys instantly too so you wont get liquid on your eye lids when you open your eyes after application...however i think I'll need to gt used to the length of the brush and the tube is quite small but definitely purchase again...must have for me cz its become one of my staples!:D<3 continued >>

I have mixed reviews for this eyeliner. I purchased it along with YSL's faux effet cils mascara (now my HG), and really wanted this eyeliner to have the same review as the mascara....but....here's the PROS and CONS that I've experienced. PROS: the tiny brush allows you to be versatile on how thin or thick you want the eyeliner to be (thinner for daytime, thicker for nightime). The texture of the liquid glides on beautifully...almost silky. The liquid isn't too watery but watery just enough. Another thumbs up for this eyeliner is that it is probably the best liquid eyeliner to close off the base/edge of the lashline for fake lashes. Here are the CONS: this eyeliner is very expensive (about $40+ Canadian). Because the brush is so tiny, it doesn't hold enough liquid to line one complete eye without having to dip into the tube again....and if you don't line back properly to where the first line stopped, sometimes you can see where you've stopped/restarted the line again. The thinner the line, the tougher it is to realign. The bottom line is....if I had unlimited funds, I will buy this liquid eyeliner again, but for now I think something for half the price will do the job.

The most important part of my make up routine is eyeliner and mascara. I've already found my HG Mascara with YSL's faux effet cils so I thought I'd give their much-touted The Black Eyeliner a try.
The first thing I noticed was that the applicator was just too small for what I wanted. I wear LOTS of black 60s style eyeliner so instead of using the applicator I used my Body Shop eyeliner brush instead. Because of the watery consistency of the liner, it did take a few strokes to get an even amount of colour onto the lids. Also, if a bristle in my liner brush accidently flicked the liner while still a bit wet, I would get little smudges which wouldn't occur when I used gel/cream liners.
Another thing was that it dried up fairly quickly and as it was started to dry in the tube, it became harder and harder to get any of the liner out. I don't have a lot of time in the morning so it was starting to become a time-wasting exercise trying to get liner out.
I come from a fairly windy city and sometimes get watery eyes - I found out the hard way that if you're wearing this liner and your eyes start to tear, it's best to carry the liner and tissues/q-tips/cotton balls at all times to fix up any black streaks that might be streaming down your face.
The colour was a great black shade though which is definitely one of the advantages of this liner - it really is a true black. And if you have the patience then it's a great liner. But for me, it was just too expensive for what it was and not very easy to use.

This comes in a tiny gold tube, and the only complaint I have about the packaging is that sometimes when I replace the brush/cab on, the sometimes 'pops' some of the product out..so you have to close it really slowly.
Other than that, this eyeliner is fantastic! I bought it back when I wasn't sure what was out there, so I got this first, then proceeded to try Bobbi, MAC, Shu, Shiseido, as well as a myriad of drugstore brands, (obsessive, i know). What it comes down to is this: this eyeliner gives you the best pigment (nice dark color), is the easiest to use (stiff thin brush for an even line) and lasts the longest (even on my greasy lids and yes, yoga class). I find myself ditching all the others and using only this now.
But perfection doesn't come cheap at $30. If you want a cheap alternative, try the L'oreal one, though the brush is not as user friendly.

For years i've been looking for the best liquid eyeliner and i've finally found it. This product has everything i've ever looked for. First, its NOT a felt tip applicator pen. amazing. Second, the consistency is perfect. Fluid, but not runny. Creamy but not clumpy. Although i generally loathe the brushes that come with liquid eyeliners this one is the best i've ever used. Its actually a REAL brush with REAL hair. *gasp* I bought this eyeliner when I was feeling especially spendy, along with the YSL faux cil mascara. Its obscenely expensive ($29) but I will probably continue to buy it because its the best eyeliner i've ever used. I'll just have to explain to my cats why they have to eat the cheap food now.

this eyeliner is great for those days when you want to tight-line or not have anything too dramatic. for the days i want more drama and a thicker line, i turn to my bobbi brown gel liner. i love pretty much everything about this product but the price. it stays put on my greasy lids and the color stays true all day. also, the super-thin brush makes it very easy to just glide it along your upper lash line and prevents mistakes, even from people as lacking in hand-eye coordination as i am. i think $29 is a but steep for a little eyeliner, but i'll continue to repurchase since i haven't found anything that i like better. also, the packaging is not as aesthetically appealing as some of YSL's other products, but that's not to say it's not attractive.

I have mixed feelings on this eyeliner. If you have watery eyes, save yourself a lot of money and don't buy this eyeliner. To the slightest watery eye or tear in any shape or form, this stuff gets messy.
what I do like about it is how my eyelids are very oily but it doesn't budge off my eyelids. I apply it as much or as little as I want and the results can be great.
The brush is VERY THIN! So it takes a lot of practise to master smooth lines. When you make a mistake, it's easy to fix but is just generally a pain in the butt to wipe the mistake and reapply.
I hear MAC's eyeliners are great, I think i'm just gona use those. Plus, this stuff is WAY too expensive for what you get.

Despite my lack of skills when it comes to brush eyeliners, I must agree with the previous reviewers about the top quality of this liner. The color is dense black, and it stays put all day. The high pigmentation is the reason I have bought it more than once; because of that, I can easily forgive that it's not as easy to use as pen-style liquid liners of the type offered e.g. by Dior and Kanebo, which both lack a lot when it comes to pigmentation and long-lasting qualities.

It's a great liner- doesn't smudge and stays put. Doesn't irritate and it gives a very dark black color for dramatic look!

Okay, I've tried almost every brand of black liquid liner. This liner is completely smudge proof until you take it off. It does not irritate my eyes, and the fine brush point makes for easy application. Very black, matte liner that I'm convinced is the best one on the market so far. It even lasts on a hot summer day and long nights out without any smearing or smudging. If you're still looking for a black liquid liner, try this one!
