This is the perfect red--totally flattering. I'm a redhead with very pink skin so I had doubts that red would look good on me, but this one is excellent. The texture is great, but it can dry out after a while. I have to make sure my lips are well-exfoliated and moisturized so the dry bits don't show through the color. It definitely makes up for that with how highly-pigmented it is and how well it stays. I usually don't even use lipliner and I've experienced no feathering and very little bleeding.

I remember when this first Viva Glam came out, maybe 1994. Aids was still a dirty secret (how sad) and Mac bravely, before they were bought by Lauder, had Rupaul pitch this with $1 per tube going to aids foundations. It was scandalous, this was before "vamp" and everyone wore brown or bronw pink (remember Twig and Del Rio?) matte faces, so much powder! Very 90210, the early 90's.
Well, I certainly think it is perfect now and just got it today. Oh, I would never have in 1994, not the self confidence to wear red. This is a tame and perfect red, somehow a true red but with a warm touch of balance in it. Actually recomended by a Mac artist, and my only gripe is God it is dry. I use a lip primer, Smashbox nude lipstick, this, then a lipstick sealent and get a darn 4 hours before any fading but have to put gloss on top, it feels so dry. It is just the perfect red to me, I am N4, but sense this would look beautiful on you fair ladies, very 1930;s.

A true go-to classic!
I literally looked for YEARS for a red lipstick that wouldn't change to orange or pink as soon as I put it on my lips. Exasperated, I thought I'd give Viva Glam I a try & it worked!
Love that it's matte but not drying & lasts almost all day long through eating & drinking.
The color is a deeper, blueish red (although still a true red) that is super flattering without being to bright or making you look like a clown.
I wear red a lot & prefer this color for the fall & winter & wear a brighter Revlon red in the spring & summer but this is a product that every woman MUST have in her makeup kit. Super sexy & very pretty...

I was looking for a classy red to wear on nights out. I asked the MAC sales girl and she said this color is really, really pretty. I was skeptical because it looked kind of brown and garish in the tube. But she insisted it was gorgeous so I took a chance. So glad I did! No wonder this red has been around forever. It's classic and gorgeous. It's not bright, which makes it look classic instead of a "trashy" red. It actually looks sort of retro and pinup-girl. This is the red women in the 1940's wore. I love wearing this with neutral eyes and I get many compliments on it. The matte finish makes it stay and last. My favorite red hands down.

Beautiful colour - not sure it's for me, however. But it's very pigmented and long lasting.

I would give this 4.5 because it is a bit drying. Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said:) This is the perfect neutral red-not too bright and not too dark; it's a blue red with a hint of berry to deepen it. Very wearable for everyday. I'm nc30 Asian w yellow undertones and this gives me the perfect red pin-up lippie!

This is a shade of red that's a bit deeper than a basic red, its more of a brick red, and I can see this working on many skin tones. This is very heavily pigmented matte lipstick too, so you can wear it full on for a retro look, or put some lip balm underneath to soften the shade. My one peeve about this is that although it goes on smooth and velvety at first, it does tend to dry out my lips, and there's nothing worse than chapped lips covered in red lipstick. It's not my favorite shade of the Viva Glam line, so I wouldn't pick it first from the lineup, but I would buy this again if I was looking for a basic red.

Hands down the best red lipstick I have come across. It is so flattering on my cool and fair skintone, light brown hair, and brown eyes. It's a very retro red; it reminds me of what the women wore in the '40s. So classy! It's not really a blue red. It's red but I feel like it's deeper than a true red would be (like Russian Red, for example). I have gotten so many compliments on this shade and I feel so confident when wearing it. I am so thankful to the MAC artist who recommended me this lipstick - on the first try! I went in looking for a red and had Brave Red in mind. The MAC artist (not knowing what I had in mind) suggested Viva Glam I to me which I hadn't even considered. I tried it on and BAM. Instant love. I bought it and haven't looked back since. Definitely a repurchase.

What a great red that looks good on everyone! I have fair skin with blue eyes and my friend has dark eyes with tan skin and it looks wonderful on both of us. The good thing about this shade is that it can look great day or night. It's not an overpowering shade of red.

I got this because a SA and my sister agreed that it looked so pretty on me. And that it looked better than dubonet which is why I was at the mac counter. I liked it a little so I went ahead and got it. I line it with Auburn liner or Brick. I sometimes add Love Alert Dazzleglass over it for a more intense look. But I sometimes like it with the matte finish for that old Holly wood brick red glam.

I never thought I'd be writing a review on a red lipstick. I thought I had found the best red for my skintone with NYX Snow White, but something always seemed a bit off. As a result- I never wanted to wear it because I wasn't confident in it. It was pretty creamy so reapplying had to occur to avoid that "lipliner only" look. So..I gave up on the red lipstick look.
But lo-and-behold, mac viva glam I to the rescue.
My lipstick collection is definitely more of a muted, natural line so this was a welcomed out of the box addition. Since I feel so confident in it and it suits my skintone so well, I've even been wearing it as a daily lipstick for a kick of sexy :)
I am an olive-skinned asian, tanned in summer to NC42, winter back to NC40. This red is great because I can build it up to that classic retro red, or simply put one coat, dab, and have a great stain for the rest of the day. I haven't even used it with lipliner (*gasp*!) but it doesn't really move anywhere on me! I recently dyed my hair from a light brown back to dark auburn brown, and it definitely looks better with my darker hair (that could be just me since I've seen plenty of lighter skin look amazing in this)
Nevertheless, happy I found my HG red lipstick, AND its supporting a cause I believe in. I'll be wearing this as a bridesmaid in a wedding next month, and I know it'll look amazing.
*I have a picture of me wearing it in my profile pictures*

By far my most favorite red. It's a beautiful bold matte red that can be worn in the day for a 50s effect or at night for sultry look. I wore this lipstick and got so many compliments. If u want to make it look more playfu, add a bit of gloss but other than that go matte

This is by far my favorite lipstick. It's definitely a vintage 1930's or 1940's type of red. I love the staying power of it because it lasts for hours on my lips. I wear it all the time even in the summer, but I'm pretty obsessed with dark, bold lips. I recommend this to someone who wants to try a bold lip or for the girl who isn't afraid of the dark dramatic look.

By far my favorite lipstick color and one to always have on hand. It works for most skin tones, even my yellow-olive skin.
Its matte consistency aids in making it longer lasting, which is great. Looks great when lined with brick.

AMAZING PRODUCT! I love the subtle and elegant color this lipstick gives me, not to bright or too dark, which allows me to wear the color with either neutral or smokey eye--which is difficult for any other shade of red lipstick I own since they come off too overpowering or too strong, but definitely not this color! It has a matte finish that lasts all day, doesn't bleed, and yet not drying! I absolutely love, love, love it! Plus every cent you spend on this lipstick goes for a good cause--It's a WIN-WIN deal! Definitely buying a dozen backups. :)

This was my first Viva Glam lipstick. I love this red. It's like the perfect matte red lipstick in my opinion. It does leave your lips with a stain after it's worn off. It goes toward a good cause and I would probably repurchase.

My first regular Mac LS,I only have prolong wear lipcolours.Colour is beautiful rosey and looks great on me;dark eyes&hair, light skin, some pigment on lips.Totally wearable in daytime.Looks quite dark when you open it.I cant see pale blue-eyed blonds wearing this at day without looking...:)).But I HATE how it transfers(1 reason why I prefer dual-ended ones with top coat) on to everything like glasses;have to top it with magic fix,it also makes it more longlasting.Though its matte,it doesnt feel drying. continued >>
