I bought this on recommendation from RR personally. I met her on one of her visits to DC in December. I am very cautious of using gel cleansers as they always dry my eyes out and overdry my skin. The ones labelled gentle are usually the biggest culprits - Kate Somerville's Gentle wash resulted in me needing to use anti-histimines for 4 days to recover - so I was very wary of this one. It feels good going on, low suds and rinses clean away. I used it in the mornings only, as recommended, so cannot speak to it's make-up removing capabilities and it felt refreshing, unfortunately it still dried me out. I had flakies in between my eyebrows, around my nose and mouth almost every time I used it. I ended up using about half the bottle on my face and then finished it as a body wash. If you do well with gel cleansers and like something mild, this is a good choice for you. It's pricy but a little goes a long way.

I love this cleanser, especially in this current cold weather. It's nice and gentle, yet effective. I can even use it to wash off my eye makeup without irritation, which is something that I can't do with Neutrogena's Fragrance-Free Cleanser. This cleaner leaves my skin comfortably clean, rinses away completely, and keeps my skin clear. Just don't expect it to lather up like other gel cleaners. It's gentleness means that it doesn't contain the harsh detergents that create lather, like in other cleansers. I definitely recommend this stuff!

I don't wear a lot of makeup and this has been a lovely cleanser.
My skin feels great afterwards -- not too dry. And, a little bit goes a long way.

I've used RR products for several years. The Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser is perfect for those of us who live in cities with polution. It really gets the grime and makeup off my face and leaves it clean without drying my skin.

I use this as my morning cleaser and it never drys out my skin. For removing makeup I use the calming chamomile cleanser which I love. It may be expensive, but I use such a little dab. I have very sensitive skin and this cleanser never gives me a problem at all.

Edited to add: I have indeed now repurchased this cleanser several times, and is the only one I've used for quite some time now. My skin is becoming trickier as I move further along into my 30s, and this cleanser doesn't dry it out or break it out. Not enough to take off eye makeup (use a separate remover for that) or really tenacious foundation (not a problem for me, as I don't use anything like EL Doublewear, mostly just powder foundations), but otherwise everything I want in a cleanser (although it is a bit too expensive for what it is). One of my year-round staples.
Original Review - Of all the RR products I've tried so far, I like this one and the phytolipid cream the best. As my skin has been changing from oily to sensitive/combo/flaky, I've realized that the Peter Thomas Roth cleansers I've used in the past have become too harsh. So I chose this cleanser from RR (BTW, I really, really wish she'd put her products' ingredients up on her website...anyway...) Although I was apprehensive that this has cocoa butter in it, I went ahead and tried it anyway, and I am pleased by it. Cleans pretty well (I haven't tried taking off waterproof mascara or long-lasting foundation with it, though), doesn't irritate my skin and doesn't break it out, despite the cocoa butter. My only beef with it is the price, which I feel is way out of line for the amount you get - this is just cleanser, after all. Still, I'll probably buy it again.
Ingredients:Purified water, cocamide betaine, glycerin, lanolin sterol, cocoa butter, aloe vera gel, polysorbate 20 (lauric acid), ethyl cellulose, allantoin, orange flower extract, caramel, methylparaben, propylparaben

This product doesn't seem to thoroughly remove my makeup. When I use the toner, I see more makeup on the cottonball. It doesn't dry my skin out, which is very nice, but I wish it would remove my makeup better (and I wear very little foundation as it is). I have found that if I massage it in longer, it gets a bit more makeup off. I have used less expensive cleansers in the past that took off more makeup. I don't mean to complain about Renee's products, because overall they seem to work well. I guess for the price, I would want something better than "well".
On another note, the facial I had at the salon was fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone!

I used this product for two years, and really liked it. It thoroughly cleansed my skin and removed my makeup, but didn't irritate my rosacea. This winter, my skin started to feel a little dry and tight after using it, and have since replaced it with something else. I would definitely consider using it again during the summer months, but wish it didn't contain any parabens.

This is a GREAT gel cleanser for sensitive and combination skin. Most gel cleansers make my face flushed, dry and irritated, but this one is really gentle, calms my skin and cleanses well (I rarely use make-up, though). Doesn't contain sulfates or perfume, the packaging is practical... The only disadvantages are the price and the fact that I have to order it online from overseas.

I have very dry sensitive skin with rosasea. I'm always worried when I try a new cleanser. But I must say this product was very nice. The best thing was no breakouts. I plan on purchasing this again. Six months later my skin broke out,and rosacea became a problem again.I use bioelements now.

I got hooked into buying over $200 worth of Renee Rouleau's skincare after reading the reviews on Cosmetic Connection...& boy was I sorry!
The customer service was so-so, after spending over $200 as a new client you'd think they'd be more inclined to throw in a few free samples, but NOTHING is free w/Renee Rouleau!
The skincare is confusing for those of us who prefer a simple routine...she even recommends separate cleansers for morning vs. evening, etc. Ended up costing a fortune for a complicated routine that produced so-so results, if any.
Was very disappointed after reading the rave reviews...I'd so expected more than what I received. :-(
p.s.: did forget to say that her skincare advice (as far a supplements, diet, etc.) was great, though & worth looking at her website for. continued >>

I have sensitive combination skin and this cleanser is a great a.m. cleanser, gentle and non drying and leaves my skin feeling soft. It is expensive but you only need a little bit so it will last a long time.

Update 6/09. This is still the best cleanser on the market and I have tried them all! It is perfect for any skin type - I know because I have used it for years and my skin has gone from oily, combo, dry and harmonal - it's current state. When I first joined MUA I tried many other cleansers that I swapped for, etc and never found any as good as this. I use it with the RR sponges or DHC terry covered sponge and it removes all makeup. I especially like the DHC terry sponge because it exfoliates but RR has terry cleansing cloths that do that as well, the sponge is just more compact. I have used A LOT of products thru the years, but none ever compairs to RR - I always come back to it. She uses the most up-to-date quality ingrediants in optimum strength and the finest botanicals and packages them in simple no-hipe, pretty containers. I have often thought about coming up with my own products, having sensative skin and having a bit of a chemist in me, but I don't have to because RR has done it for me. She has exactly what I would want to make. NOTE: If you order direct from RR on-line you do receive samples with your order. I have used this cleanser for years for my sensative combo skin (in the a.m.)and it is the best. I love the light natural scent too. UPDATE: 3/2010 STILL MY FAV AND HG CLEANSER OF ALL TIME. YOU JUST CANT BEAT IT. I LOVE RENE'S PRODUCTS. I MAY TRY OTHERS FROM TIME TO TIME BUT HERS ARE ALWAYS BETTER!!

I have sens/combo/acne prone skin. I tried the Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser after trying the Renee's Purifying Face Wash (wanted to try something new and the GG cleanser is supposed to be for all skin types). I didn't care for it at all. The scent was a bitter cocoa and the product was slippery, almost slimey. After reading all the previous reviews for this product, it makes me wonder if I got a bad or spoiled bottle of it. I exchanged it for another bottle of the Purifying Face Wash. Also, I think that $27.50 USD is expensive for 6 oz. But I say that most of Renee Rouleau's products are a bit high - but will continue to purchase my favorites from her line.

I LOVE this cleanser! it leaves my normal/combo but sensitive skin smooth and not the least tight. It rinses of well and does not leave any residue, just a clean feeling. It is recommended for morning use since it doesn't remove makeup. Some of the reviewers has problem with the fragrance but I think it smells gorgeous and not the least overpowering. It is quite expensive, I payed 27,50 USD for 6 oz/ 174 ml but a little goes a long way and you only need a tiny peasize so the bottle lasts forever. I have tried almost every cleanser in the market-both cheap and pricey and this is definitely worth the money. The only negative I can come up with is that it is only sold thru Renees website and they doesn't ship outside USA. What should I do when I move back to Sweden?

This is an extemely gentle cleanser that is great if your skin is irritated or very dry. I use it in the winter when my combo skin dries out in the cold weather or when my face is irritated. It has the most unique feel of any cleanser I've used. Non foaming, it has a great deal of 'slip' and it slides over your skin with a very slick feeling and rinses very clean leaving your face soft. It's bufferred with cocoa butter. It WILL NOT remove makeup well at all, but I still like this product alot and recommend giving it a try for something gentle. This is fairly expensive as cleansers go for $27.50 for 6oz but a little goes a long way and I rank this up there as one of the best cleansers out there. It also smells divine!

This is a very gentle gel cleanser that won't strip your skin and you only need to use a small amount, which is nice. However, I find the scent to be a bit overpowering, but I am pretty sensitive to fragrance. According to Renee's website, she doesn't use any "synthetic" fragrances so I'm guessing that the scent in this gel cleanser comes from one of the ingredients.

This is a very good cleanser for anyone looking for something that doesn't leave them taut after washing. I have been trying several cleansers recently and this is the *only* one to leave me with absolutely no tightness. No irritation, cleaned off make-up well, rinsed clean. The only thing i didn't like was the scent- nice but strong and the texture/slip. It felt too slippery to me. This will be a great runner-up for me, but I am leaning towards Ellen Lange's DM cleanser and Dr. Brandt's Lineless Gel cleanser.

This is one of the best foaming cleansers I've ever used. I love the natural scent, it doesn't dry my skin out at all. On the other side of that, it doesn't wash all of my spot treatment off. Despite that it's a lovely product. I highly recommend it to anyone with very sensitive skin that wants a foaming cleanser.
