It protects very well against UVA/UVB, but is heavy for normal to oily skin and leaves a white cast.

Once upon a time this product annoyed the heck out of me, because whenever I applied it, it would never sink in (leaving an icky white cast). I quickly found a way to fix that problem: I added a sqeeze of my tinted moisturizer. Other than that little issue, this is a great sunscreen- but I only use it on vacation (I use Neutrogena's Dry Touch SPF30 everyday). I might repurchase.

I have mild rosacea and I've had the WORST luck with sunscreens. I'm allergic to PABA (which thankfully isn't prevalent any more) and I think I may also be sensitive to Parsol aka avobenzone. I don't want to spend the $ to be 100% sure though. I initially bought Avene ss lotion SPF 25 but it left a sticky, ghostly white cast on me. Minesol is less sticky. It did leave my skin a bit white, but that faded significantly after some time, so I returned the Avene. People like me who need physical ss must accept the white cast. I was also shocked at the amount of FRAGRANCE in some of the Avene ss! Minesol is unscented. I am so far very happy with it. I was at the beach in direct mid-day sun today and returned home unscathed. I have yet to wear it under m/u though. For now when wearing m/u I am sticking to my Clinique City Block. But for any other outdoor activities, I am quite pleased with Minesol!

Also known as their children's (bebe) sunblock. This, along with Mene & Moy's sunblock, are HG for me. My derm loves this and has all of her patients use it. I am 38 and have combo, acne-prone skin that is sensitive due to Retin-A use. This does not irritate or break out my skin but actually feels soothing and healing! Also, a huge plus in my book is that I can use it in my eye area w/o it migrating or stinging! It is thick and takes practice to apply correctly. I place a small pea-sized amount on the back of my hand, and smooth onto my face with a latex cosmetic wedge. One I spread and smooth it out into a thin layer, I think it makes a great make-up base and it does not feel or get greasy. I do believe this would be difficult to apply all over your body as it is thick, opaque and difficult to spread over larger areas. Supposedly this has a PPD of >8+? but I'm thinking it now may be higher because my new tube has a 4 star UVA rating instead of the old one that has 3 stars, whatever that means? continued >>

If you are a SERIOUS PPP like myself who really wants a good sunblock, this is the one. It is a mineral block and an SPF 40 so NEWS FLASH, complainers, it is going to sit on top of your skin and not soak in very much, and yes it is going to leave a white cast, because again, it is a mineral block and not a chemical one. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a whitish cast than skin cancer.
This sunblock is creamy and not too greasy considering the high SPF, and it comes in a handy travel sized tube. you should be able to get it at most SDM's in Canada. One of my faves!

UPDATE 2007
I am using La Roche Posay Hydraphrase UV 30 as my daily sunscreen. I use it all over my face, neck and under my eyes.
However of all the physical ss I have tried I would say this was probably the best.

This is a great option for those that cannot use a sunscreen with chemicals.
It is lightweight compared to other
physical suncreens.
Contains 3% zinc oxide; titantium dioxide 10.5%
Widely availble in Canada at SDM.
It does leave a slight white cast. I am able to use this under my eyes with no problems. However I used foundation powder and it took care of the shine/added some colour.
I also have Avene cream (that contains those two suncreens) and it is much heavier/greasy looking.

This is considered water resistant.
Update 2004 2005: I am still using this under my eyes/neck area. I don't use a full face of this product unless I know I am out for the day in the sun.

Those who tried Neutrogena Sensitive skin SPF 30 will know what I'm writing about. I bought this sunscreen in my search for a nice body sunscreen which blends quite easily and doesn't feel too sticky. What a big dissappointment this product was !! I put it on my face (for the ultimate test) and ended up wiping most of it off - too white. It soaked a little bit but it felt weird and on my arms it didn't even want to blend in.
After about an hour and a half I went to have a shower and the sunscreen didn't want to wash of my skin ! Water-resistant or not, I took it back to the store and keep searching for the best sunscreen.
