There aren't many tinted broad spectrum high factor sunscreens on the market. Other than this one the only other I can think of is the Anthelios one and it that which I will compare this against.
I find the shade of this tinted sunscreen much better than the Anthelios. I am a NC42, neutral to warm skinned. This is peachier than the Anthelios which is more of a tan/orange shade and looks a bit dingy on my skin. A yellowy shaded tinted sunscreen would be a good addition too and then the user could mix to their heart's content.
It's actually quite difficult to apply a tinted sunscreen all over your face because you want the sunscreen to continue up into your hairline and close to your eyebrows but the tint can get stuck in your hairs and you can be left with an orangey line of gunk. Yuk. So in actual fact, you need a little bit of white sunblock around hairy areas to blend!
As for the texture, it's thicker than Anthelios but I don't find it greasy in the same way. I have an oily t-zone and actually prefer this to the Anthelios tinted. It looks more natural. Both need blotting with powder but this one has less of the tinman look than is very hard to disguise.
The one drawback? The very strong old lady scent. Why do they do this? It is very overpowering and never disappears.
I think that the Anthelios might have a higher PPD rating but possibly more oestrogenic effects from what I've read.
It's worth giving this one a try.
I would rate this higher if it weren't for the scent and a stated PPD rating on the packaging would be very helpful.
*Update: Sigh, this is too sticky for the summer and the tint in it is too pink/peach for my skin. Tinted sun protection is either too muddy looking (L'Oreal Solar), too orange (Anthelios) or too pink/peach (this one) I suppose this tint was the most flattering but still not right.
I'm lowering the rating on this because:
1) They should give the lab PPD rating and it's not listed anywhere.
2) Secondly, I find it hard to trust a sunblock without Mexoryl.
3) The smell is very overpowering. I wouldn't mind if it smelt like YSL foundation but it's sooooo old lady, I won't want to smell of this even when I am an old lady!
What a pity. I would give it a go if they changed the formulation but I won't buy again.

This review is for the Summer 2008 Version which is SPF 50.

I sampled this today. I have a soft spot for Tinted Sunscreens because I like the idea of them and always think that with them I can skip my foundation or Tinted Moisturizer. I have no idea why I felt for Avene again as I have tried previously SPF 50, SPF40, SPF20 (all were greasy and shiny and impossible to use Make Up on top, and also the Fluids too. not as greasy but equaly shiny).

The Tint here is very nice and applied in my hand I thought would be nice, big mistake, never buy a SS because feels nice on the hand, on the face is a very different story !

My face right now after 1 hour having applied this is shiny and very greasy yuk !...the tint is dark and one of those that maybe needs the cream to make the SS work....

I just don't like Avene SS at all, like most Eurpean SS I have tried (RoC, Sensilis SPF60+, ISDIN Estreme and Ultra, Boots Soltan SPF 50) this is greasy, heavy and I much preffer the fluids even though my skin is Dry I feel less sufocated with Fluid SS and better for daily use.

The only reason I give 2 lippies is b/c it has all the ingredients to make this a decent protection and a good PPD, other than that is vile.

I have dry sensitive skin. I use this as a bronzer on top of my sunscreen. This is excellent as a bronzer with high PPD. It brings life to my cheeks which are ghostly white due to sunscreen. It looks just right on my skin, not too dry, not too oily, just dewy and gives a nice glow. It does not irritate my skin at all, though it has a heavy fragrance (my skin is usually very sensitive to fragrances. But this one does not irritate my skin).

Age: 18 & Under Skin: Very Dry, Fair, Warm Hair: Brown, Straight, Fine Eyes: Brown

Protects skin but is VERY greasy even on my dry skin. Leaves it shiny with a ghostly white cast, to me its no better than the untinted version. Easy to apply but you will want to remove it a.s.a.p. its horrible. too expensive as well.
