Love this eyeshadow. This has replaced Mystery as my go to eyebrow filler. I also use it on my crease with either Patina, Naked Lunch or All that Glitters on my lid, then Nylon on my inner tear duct. I have had to buy a second Charcoal Brown after I dropped my first one and it smashed. I pressed it again but did'nt do the best job....so would I again? YES!!

I just realized that I wrote this review under the "brows" section. I will repost here because this eye shadow deserves much love!!

For all of you who are pale with neutral/yellow undertones (NC15-20), and hate brown shadows that pull purple, red, or orange, this one is for you! I adore Charcoal Brown and Brun for a perfect smokey eye where it doesn't look muddy, and I DON'T look tired or bruised. I like to use my EL DW fndt as a base. Then I layer Charcoal Brown over MAC Shroom or Nylon. Blends beautifully!!

I have also used it on it's own over my EL DW fndt as a liner, to tightline, as a lid color, crease color, and to even set liquid eyeliner on the waterline (Brun is awesome for that purpose too, for a darker look). LOVE. Will repurchase over and over!

I previously used Omega or Coquette in my eyebrows, but they started to look a little bit too grey and sometimes green. This is the perfect neutral brown... no red, no orange, no khaki or green tones. It's nicely pigmented too. I debated for a long time whether or not to get this and I'm so glad I did.

I purchased this eyeshadow last week - continuing my search for the perfect brown crease color. Happy to say I am very satisfied. It is a true brown, no red nor orange undertoe, and compliments my brown eyes perfectly. I've tried Soft Brown (too orange), Satin Taupe (nice but too glimmery. Blends very well, great staying power (I used NARS primer). I love it, and will def repurchase if I ever use it all. I'm using Amber Lights on the lid, All that Glitters as a brow highlighter, and a little Antiqued mixed with the charcoal brown in the inner crease, Laura Mercier Expresso or MAC Avenue as an eyeliner, and this is my go to work look. Yay!

I bought this because a girl on youtube uses this on her brows, and our hair color is nigh identical (light brown/dark blonde hair, medium brown brows). It does do very well for that and I've been favoring it over my Anastasia brow powder duo. Otherwise, this is great for a defined crease if you want a matte look (I prefer matte for professional settings). You could use this as a brown liner powder but I tend to prefer a darker brown for that.
If you have espresso, you may not want to bother with this because they're very, very similar (espresso is maybe one shade darker, the finish is also matte).

I love wearing this color in my crease. It makes my eyes look more defined. Color is light on my skintone but it is buildable. Def will repurchase :)

I know people love this product for their brows but I bought it for its intended purpose - as an eye shadow. I put off buying Charcoal Brown for a LOOOONG time. I'd read about how great it was and then I'd look at it in store and be unimpressed....for something with "charcoal" in the name, it was singularly lacking in "charcoal-ness". Well, I should have followed my initial instincts. I got this on Friday (it's now Monday) and I've worn it every day since and played with it a bit and, sorry, but to me, it's just not that special. I can get the same effect using Brun with a light hand and a 224 brush or using Omega and/or Wedge with a heavier hand. This isn't a "bad" shadow but it's really nothing special either. I am hoping that if I play around with it a bit more and try it with some other shadows, I might hit upon a combination that makes Charcoal Brown into something indispensable, but for now, I'm feeling pretty "meh" about it and would not repurchase.
UPDATE: Since buying MAC's Sweet Satisfaction (Pro Longwear eye shadow), I've found that the pairing of SS and Charcoal Brown works really well to create a sculpted and flattering eye that is suitable for day/work. Suddenly, Charcoal Brown (in the crease to contour) looks like something worth having and Sweet Satisfaction, which is another of those sort of "meh" shadows when first applied on its own, really comes alive too.

I also found this makes the perfect eyebrow product. Discovered this by watching a YouTube video. The color matches my own eyebrows ( has no red to it ) and when applied wet makes a great brow powder.

I chose this colour specifically for brows, but it is also beautiful as an eye shadow - a nice all-over colour that isn't too dark. I also used this as my back to mac freebie, so that makes it even better!! Love MAC eyeshadows :)

Charcoal Brown is one of my favorite go-to colors that I use quite often because it goes so well with everything! For a quick neutral eye, I will use this in my crease with Patina on the lid and Vex on my brow bone lined with Embark e/s. A staple matte e/s that works well with a variety of different looks. Love it!

I only discovered this a month ago, and have been using it everyday since. It is a great crease color for me, both with natural looks or smokey eyes. It is not too warm, nor too cool, but seems to be neutral. While this shade may not be unique or eye-catching in the pan, the formula is what I'm in love with. This matte shadow blends easily, evenly and does not fade or change colour throughout the day. Most other brown shadows turn reddish, or orange on my lids by midday, as it reacts to the oils in my skin. Most other matte brown shadows I've tried have been a pain to blend, looking blotchy and losing it's pigmentation after furious back and forth motions with a brush.
I would re-purchase this no questions asked.

this is a 5/5 no doubt. this (along with satin taupe) are my two favourite e/s from mac. i never liked dark brown but this color is hot hot hot!
can be used for day (works really well with bare study paint pot) or built up for night with say, painterly and a black e/s.
very easy to work with....

I love this eyeshadow. Perfect for the crease. Neutrally brown so looks good on everyone! Could probably make a good eyebrow color too.

Some browns are just hit or miss. This one is exactly what I was looking for. Specification: I'm NC25, and what I was looking for was a matte, mid-tone/darkish cool brown to deepen the crease in a slightly more dramatic fashion, e.g. cut crease looks or just a pin-up eye with sharper contrast than your every day neutrals. This color is just right for these purposes. I imagine it's a great brow filler for blondish people as well, since it's cool enough to look natural (no red/orange/burgundy undertones). But back to what I personally use it for, yes: It gets the job done beautifully. It deepens/cuts/smokes out the crease while still looking natural (color-wise, not intensity-wise), and it just turns any neutral/classic/retro look up a notch. Also great for defining the eye in a really discrete manner, far less harsh than a regular brown eyeliner. WIll repurchase.

I use this eyeshadow as my eyebrow filler-inner-colour. Worked brill up until I dyed my hair shocking red last week so I have to change it up shortly!
Very good as a brow colour but trying to blend it on the lid was a tough job!

I use a combination of Charcoal Brown and Brun to fill in my sparse, jet balck eyebrows and it's a perfect match. Charcoal brown goes through most of the brow, while Brun I use mostly at the ends, as it's darker. Charcoal brown is a cool tone brown with no hints of red in it, which I love, and that's exactly what makes it a perfect brow filler. I also use to to smoke out some of my eyeshadow looks in the outer corner and the crease, and it looks perfect as well. I will continue to repurchase over and over again!

I love this shade. I like that its matte as I dont like much sparkle with my eye shadows. I think this is a great neutral shade that will flatter all skin tones. I find that I only need a bit or it looks really dark.

A very universal mid-tone neutral matte brown. A nice staple in my collection that I enjoy using either as a quick eyebrow filler or to smoke out my crease.

I love this eyeshadow. I like using it overtop bare study paint pot in my crease and all over depending where I am going. But what I use it for the most is my eyebrows. It is no natural looking yet very pigmented. I can't be happier with this purchase. Honestly I know the price is on the expensive side(11 dollars since I bought the pro pan form) but i can say that i feel like i will use the whole thing. That is saying a lot from me considering i own hundreds of shadows and have only fully used up two eyeshadows in my whole life (21 years). If you are NW15 and have brown or blonde hair(i have had both with this shadow) this is a must buy!
