I found this lipstick at Nordstrom Rack, and I must say when I opened it and saw the color, I felt distant, it seemed too red, I love red lipsticks though but I felt the not need of buying one, but hehe I still bought it. And all my thoughts about it changed after applying it on my lips, it wasn't too red, it was more of a sheer, tint like red, but you can build it up for more color. It also moisturized my lips which is a plus. I love it!

This is my HG lipstick! The color is, as others have said, a warm red and builds beautifully. I don't find that it dries my lips out at all. The only drawback is its staying power--or lack thereof. However, most sheer lipsticks don't really last too long. I will definitely repurchase!

There isn't too much that Stila makes that I've bought and haven't been satisfied with. The thing is a lot of their eye shadows and blushes don't "wow" me. This lipstick does. Love it!

I agree with most of the reviews here, except that I just didn't like this color on me. It looks wine colored in the tube (recyclable! love that), although is more of a warm red, which I thought I wanted and why I bought it, but it looked almost orangey on me. More beautiful terracotta than clown makeup, and some ladies might love the look, but it just didn't work with my NC25 skin.

The formula has a great sheen, decent coverage for a sheer, and was very moisturizing. I would absolutely recommend Stila lipstick, but would not repurchase Ava. continued >>

This lipstick is exactly, and I do mean exactly, the color of my lips, so it's a MLBB shade for me only because it's slightly more pigmented than my natural color: it's like doubling my lips' natural coloration when I put this on. I really love it. There is no off taste or smell and I think the metal tubes look elegant. If I use it up (I have to be honest here, I can count on one hand the makeup items I've ever used up all the way and I am a true junkie), I'll repurchase. It's so pretty on me because it's as natural as can get! :P

I am always on the lookout for sheer red lipsticks and this is my new favourite lip colour. It is soft, ultra sheer berry red - perfect for my Asian colouring. The slightly shiny finish is fantastic - it's like wearing a hint of lipgloss but without the stickiness of a gloss. Like a previous reviewer said, it is similar to Clinique's Almost Lipstick (my previous favourite lip colour being Black Honey, which I have used for nearly 15 years!), but I think this is a better formulation - the Stila lipstick applies and adheres to the lips more easily and has a bit more staying power than the Almost lipstick. It makes the Delux sheer lipsticks seem very dry in comparison (Delux Wallace is another of my favourites).

When I first tried Ava, I wasn't impressed. Stila describes the color as a natural flush. I think that this color could be considered natural for someone who already has very pigmented lips. Once I got past my expectations of what Ava would be, then I really enjoyed the color. On me Ava is a natural wine color that is neither cool or warm in tone. The color is a little sheer and yet thicker than most sheer lipsticks. I imagine that the color would work for most brunettes with fair to dark complexions, or others with medium to dark skin tones. I know that others find Stila lipsticks to smell bad or go rancid quickly, I don't think that is the case, I think that they just do not add any fragrances to cover up the waxy scent.

This reminds me of Clinique's Almost Lipsticks in terms of coverage and formulation. It's somewhere between a gloss and a lipstick and provides a buildable sheer flush of color. It's a sheer true red that goes well with my pale skin and dark hair. It seems like it would be a universally flattering shade. I love this! Plus, it doesn't hurt that Ava is my favorite name :)

I really love Ava, It reminds me alot of Clinique Black Honey except its more pinky brown than reddish brown. This is definately something I would consider one of those "goes with everything" colors. I like it sheered out with lots of clear lipgloss for the natural flushed lips look. Mine is about 6 months old and it smells okay, not exactly like when I first got it though. Its also a metal case, thank god no more of that cardboard wrapping stuff. It gets a 4 and not a 5 for 2 reasons, the smell thing and the lipstick its self seems to have a predisposition to leaning in the tube, odd. Its messy looking now and I cant think of one thing I did to make it that way. I just think its the formula. Anyway, Id still reccommend it. Its a beautiful color.

*gasp* I'm surprised by the so-so reviews on this one! Ava (along with Daisy) were two of my first stila lipsticks. I know a lot of people have complained in general about stila lipsticks turning rancid quickly, but i've had mine for close to two years now, and they are doing just fine! :) Ava is SUCH a gorgeous deep berry-plum with a nice red touch. Also has a glossy sheen, reminds me a lot of MAC lustre lipsticks. I would highly recommend this to girls of all colorings. I'm an nc30 MMM yellow/olive and this is such a gorgeous day or night time color. I love this when i want to wear something a little more dramatic on the lip :)

I'm not a fan of the look of Stila tubes. They look kind of cheap. But, whatever. I'm not about how the outside looks, give me a lipstick that performs and it can come in a slab of mud for all I care.
Ava is a clear, sheer, pinked red. Perfect for everyday wear to just slick on a bit of color to make you look finished and polished, but not overly done-up. Because it's so sheer I'd actually call this a gloss stick rather than a lipstick, but I'm not Jeanine Lobell, so oh well. The sheerness does take away from the wear time, you do have to reapply for color but the moisture really clings to your lips for a few hours. Overall, a thumbs up. It's a purse lippie for me -- meaning I keep it on me at all times because it goes with everything.

I love the colour on my darkish lips it looks very natural , just a tint deeper & slightly moist, very sheer cool but slightly warm berry tone which I only like. I've got no problem with the packaging either, if you want flash buy Chanel. My only gripe-and this is quite a serious one is the fragrance is absolutely foul-like rancid peanut oil, I'm assuming this isn't due to it being old (I hope not anyway) as I just purchased it. Since I am fanatical about smell & taste I don't know if I could tolerate this on a regular basis. I know Stila lipsticks are individually formulated because of colour & finish but I've never had one that smelt this horrid before. Can't buy EA Eight Hour tints or Laura Mercier/Bobby Brown for the same reason. continued >>

I love this color but the packaging is crap, after about two days of use the paper wrap cover/cardboard tube was dinged up and after three months, it smells and tastes foul!

The pinky brown colour does nothing for my warm skintone. I had asked at the cosmetics counter for a fairly neutral shade, one that you can put on for everyday wear- without looking made-up. Something to simply enhance my own natural lipcolour. This only drags down my entire complexion and makes me look sickly. It might look better on a cool complexion. I thought it would be more moisturising as my lips tend to be dry. Although moisturising when I first applied it, the moisture quickly dissipated. Overall, it was expensive and a waste of money - sitting in a drawer gathering dust. The packaging is awful - cardboard. My mother laughed when she saw it as she uses YSL which has luxurious gold packaging. What a difference.

Love the moist texture and natural, healthy look this gives me. Received in swap and am thrilled with it! Update, turned smelly and rancid/dry after two months. Packaging is rotten, looked dinged up after putting in my bag once!

This is a terrific berry red shade. I'm a neutral PPP and some of these type shades can be a little too vibrant, but not this one. The texture of this is sheer and glossy.

My favorite muted red lipstick!
Ava goes on sheer, and looks like a muted berry-red on my lips. It goes well with all colors of red, and is a shade I can wear with a red top at work and not look garish or out of place.
I am fair (PPP with pink undertones) and this is one of my favorites. One of my gripes is the packaging, but I found a cute little lipstick case (with a mirror on the inside) at Big Lots that now carries my Stila lipsticks in style.

I went to the Stila counter wanting to buy Wendy because I've heard it's such a great color for that "your lips but better" look. Well, not for my coloring. It didn't do anything for me. After I tried it on, my friend made this face that let me know that it wasn't working. The SA suggested Ava and it's perfect for me. It's a cool toned berry color that brightens up my face.

A berry/red, that got too bright on me. I'm a Stila B/MAC NC 20. It also has a kinda choppy consistency that didn't go on as smoothly as the other Stila lippies do.
