Yuck! For a while there I thought I'd figured out a way to make this ss work, but it turns out I was wrong. I wasn't wearing the recommended amount for optimum protection--1/4 tsp. I was wearing maybe half that, and having to powder and blot. NOT worth it to me. After trying so hard to embrace this stuff, I finally give up b/c life is too short! Unless you're an uber dry skinned PPP who doesn't mind layering on the powder and fussing with it for the rest of the day, I don't see how this could be wearable. I go home and am dying to wash it off. By this time it's a sticky, filmy trap for debris and air pollutants. My pores look HUGE and every (otherwise invisible) skin imperfection is grotesquely highlighted. Needless to say, I skip it when I have to look good for an occasion or when I'm suffering from allergies. If you're the type who wants to actually look good while preserving your skin from sun damage, don't waste your efforts, money, and fleeting youth shellacked in this cosmetically crude sunscreen.

This is for the SPF 60 Anthelios L (available in Canada). I had a little sample of this and was actually sceptical to use it. I imagined anything over an SPF 30 was either going to be too 'white' or too thick and sticky, but this is neither! The "L" is for 'light' and for an SPF 60, this is a very user friendly (face friendly!) sunscreen. The consistency is rather thin and it smooths on and sinks in very easily. Does not get greasy or shiny during the day either (I have combo skin) so it works well under makeup too.
I'm not completely sure I'll purchase only because I'm looking forward to trying/buying the newest SPF 60 with Mexoryl XL.
This one is definitely a great sunscreen though and does have the Mexoryl SX. Totally changed my mind about high SPF sunscreens!

I love this! I have been wearing it daily for 3 days now, and I really like this cream. Bought it from a Canadian skin product seller because of course it's not available in the US yet (at least not in SPF 60). I have fair skin, but even still, I can't see a white cast when I apply - I massage it on until it is clear (takes seconds). It's really not greasy... at least it is less greasy than some brands I'm used to (Kiss my face and Beauty Without Cruelty), but I guess more greasy than something like Lancome spf 15 moisturizer. I have bangs, and I don't find that this makes them clumpy as some other moisturizers and sunscreens do. I'll definitely buy this (or the XL version) again!

Once again, I am surprised at the low number of positive reviews on Anthelios. The Anthelios L, which is mexoryl sx is the one Ive been using for 2 years all over, including my face, Since its not as oily as the XL. It smells ok and it didn't explode in my car while sitting 8 hours in the hot california sun. The white sheen always goes away on my DDDivo husband after about 30 minutes.
Im not trying to advertise any particular website, but I have to tell you all that if you paid more than $15.95 USD you got hosed! I use a canadian online pharmacy because the SPF-15 is the only one sold in the U.S. Mexoryl as a whole has been approved by the FDA so its NOT illegal to buy it in a higher SPF. So go out there and get your SPF 60 online.

I was initially happy with this- it does not leave a white cast, but does have a slight shine finish like a dry-oil/dry-touch that is easily covered up by a light dusting of powder. Unfortunately however it broke me out, I started developing quite a few clogged pores/whiteheads. Sadly will not repurchase.

I like that it sinks into my skin (I apply immediatly after moisturizer). I'm PPP so no white cast for me. My only hang-up is the scent. I can smell it for a few hours and I was hoping the one I got off ebay was fragrance-free, but it is not. I will use it, especially in the dry, winter months, but I think I will try the XL fluid as it has no scent.

I LOVE IT. I am very surprised with the number of people who don't and all of the comments about the white cast of this and the oily-ness and the smell (don't notice any scent - did they reformulate?). I did NOT experience this oilyness and white cast at all (I am a PPP though). Not only that but in June Allure's 2005 magazine I read, 'Sharon Krause, New York City colorist at Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon likes La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 60 - "there's no white, pasty look."' Now, I did use this on days I was biking and therefore not under a lot of makeup so it didn't need to look picture perfect. It did keep my face free of sun exposure and I saw no sign of tan which I'm THRILLED with. I will continue to use my DDF Organic SPF 30 when underneath make-up and for shorter stints in the sun ... but for long bikerides in the bright sun I want the sun protection that this formula offers and does indeed provide WITHOUT any white cast at all and limited oilyness.

At first I couldn't decide between this and Vichy's Soleil, which also offers SPF60. Then after trying the testers at Shoppers, Vichy's left a sticky residue hence I went for the LRP. For $25 CAD, I am really disappointed. The cream smoothed on really well, but left my face sticky from the point of application to the end of the day. I even tried not putting moisturer on before using the sunscreen; still left my face sticky. I will only use this when I will be outside for a long period of time. And definitely will not buy again. *sigh* my search for sunscreen continues!

This is a great sunscreen. I used Shiseido SPF 50 lotion before this and it had a very rough texture. This sunscreen has a smoother texture and absorbs well into my skin. It does dry 'white' if you don't blend it well though (which is why I gave it a four instead of a five). Also, it's much cheaper than shiseido and has a higher ppd count than shiseido so I was very happy to purchase it :)
I'd definitely buy it again and would recommend others to buy it as well.

Perhaps they re-formulated this because I find this to be fresh smelling, semi-matte once absorbed and it offers great protection. I can wear liquid, cream or mineral powder makeup over this with no issues. My skintype is combination/dry sensitive whacko skin. I don't understand the old lady perfume and shiny to the point of getting stares comments. I really like this and it's affordable. I will def. re-purchase.

One reason that I am giving this product a low rating is because it leaves a white film on my skin that does not fade. I've tried keeping it on for a couple of hours while I'm at home, waiting for it to fade, but I had to wash it off before I left the house. Also, I agree with those who said the scent reminds them of old ladies' perfume. It's also sticky. I bought it for $18.99 + $9.95 shipping & handling on ebay. I'm just going to use it on my hands, where it doesn't show up. If you have dark skin I would recommend La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Fluide Extreme SPF 60, which I currently use. continued >>

hmmmm. i'm not sure why this sunscreen is getting such low marks, because i think it's fabulous. it's lightweight, offers excellent protection, doesn't cost an arm and a leg if i drive to canada to purchase, and doesn't leave a white cast on me (then again, i'm a PPP).
the only drawback: it leaves the typical european sunscreen 'shine.' but that's covered with a little loose powder, and it's gone. oh, and it's a bit more sticky than la roche-posay hydraphase UV spf 30, but not overly so.
june jacobs sheer micronized spf 30 is my HG sunscreen, but during the winter, it highlights my horrid retin-a micro flakies. so i turned to anthelios L spf 60 samples sent to me by a lovely swapper.
in the niagara falls lundy lane SDM, i couldn't find the anthelios XL, so i bought the full-size of this formula. i'm very pleased, and i'll probably buy again. though when summer arrives, i'm sure i'll be itching to try the XL version...

This has a spf of 60 and is doing wonders for my skin. I have oily/combination skin and use this before my makeup. This does a great job as a primer too. I love the texture and the finish is great even without powder. I have used numerous brands of sunscreen (Ombrelle, Lancome, Clinique, YSL, Neutrogena, Shiseido .....) and so far this is my favorite.

Hopefully this is the Canadian one I'm reviewing. The fragrance was too strong for me. Besides that the finish was somewhat shiny, I had trouble matting it down even with a variety of powders. At least I didn't have problems with a white cast. I always felt like I hadn't gotten it completely off in the evening too. Not bad but not my HG.

I was able to try this sunscreen thanks to a FABULOUS fellow MUAer, and I have mixed feelings about it. Firstly, it's not something I could wear under make-up...it leaves a film on my skin that almost feels like...when your skin is dirty? M/u would definitely not apply smoothly. BUT...I tested this out on a day that I didn't plan to wear any m/u, and I mean not even my ever-present dusting of loose powder. And I wasn't shiny...well, I wasn't any more shiny than I normally would be.
And the scent...yes, it's potent. But it does fade (thank god!)
So, while this isn't something I can use as a daily s/s, I think it's wonderful to use as my pool/beach facial s/s, since I'll be protected, but not look superslick w/o make-up on.

The hunt for HG continues....

(Just for reference, my skin is normal-dry right now, but will get a bit more oily in the summer months...we'll see how this hold up then, and with humidity!). continued >>

After reading MUA comments on Anthelios L sunblock, I decided to purchase. I really like this product...it's not too oily and doesn't leave a white residue on my face (even though it's white when first apply on). Definitely would buy it again and again.

Thankfully I obtained this item in a swap, because the finish is impossible..ridiculously shiny and greasy.I am very acne prone, but used it, despite my reservations, on my cheeks, forehead and as near to my T-zone as I dared since these areas are the least acne prone for me and usually not oily or shiny.I expected my skin to look dewy under makeup, but knew I wouldn't be able to pull this off when my husband asked me if I was hot because I looked like I was sweating!(awww...great!) Well, in less than a week my pores were looking so blocked and I could feel a cyst forming in my cheekbone area--I never break out there! So I am going to finish it up on my neck, decolletage, and hands, since it is such awesome protection, but I won't repurchase. Also 100% agree about the scent being horrendous and reminiscent of old ladies! Blech! =p

This was my first foray into the world of Canadian sunscreens. Before buying this, I had been wearing Coppertone Oil-free Faces SPF 30 exclusively. I wanted something with better UVA protection, so I ordered this from feelbest.com. The packaging is good enough--a tube with a screw-top. The protection is very good--SPF 60, PPD 15. It has a somewhat shiny and sticky finish, which I can cover with a dusting of powder. However, I just can't get over the fragrance. It smells like grandma's perfume that has been sitting on her dresser for twenty years. I just don't understand why they had to add a fragrance at all, and why they had to add a horrible one at that.

This shine just cannot be conquered. Anthelios "L" forms a very sticky layer over skin which never gets absorbed; I have heard this is true of most mexoryl sunscreens. I really want to love this for the great solar protection it offers--and I DO continue to diligently slather it on daily--but seriously, this shine is just so odd looking on skin (just like a thin layer of dried honey). My search continues... UPDATED 12/08/04: I have now stopped using this and I feel so much better: no more stale-perfume smell, no more stares from strangers because of hyper-dewiness...I am now using Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Reflections Formula SPF 30 (see my review of it if interested). UPDATED 02/05/05: Okay, I'm back to using this now, lol. I got really paranoid that Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Reflections spf 30 wasn't giving me good enough protection so I have decided to grin and bear it with the Anthelios "L," and it's really not all that bad as long as you are PPP (there is a bit of a white cast as it contains 4% TiO2), and have a good powder to combat the shine.
