I am not even kidding when I say that I have never found a cleanser/makeup remover that I hate more that Clinique's Comforting Cream Cleanser. Seriously, this stuff was such a waste of money.
Obviously it has worked for many others, and people out there really enjoy it, that being said, I am not one of them. For starters, this leaves a residue on my face EVERY time. And no matter what I do, I cannot get it to work for me. It doesn't make sense. More water, less water, putting it on my face and scrubbing, working it into my hands before my face, NOTHING makes this work better or the greasy feeling/film not appear.
Next complaint, this is not a full face makeup remover like the sales lady told me. Want to know why I know that? BECAUSE IT REALLY BURNS IF YOU GET IT IN YOUR EYES. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. It made my eyes sting and go a bit blurry. And it took rinsing my eyes out with a lot of water and eventually eye drops to make the burning subside.
And lastly, 19.50 USD is really expensive for how little you get. Or maybe that's just because you need to use so much to get it to work. Whatever the issue is, I will not be repurchasing.
I've used this cleanser on and off for a few years and it's simply the best out there for me and my skin: super sensitive, dry, redness and clog prone skin. I keep trying to find a cheaper alternative because part of me feels that a super simple, creamy unscented cleanser should not be that hard to find but nothing compares. I just need to stop being so stingy and resign myself to spending 25+ Euros on this every few months (although there often are discounts, duty free opportunities, etc. - to where I rarely pay the full price)
Why this cleanser is superior in my book:
- I can cleanse face + eyes in one go. This is huge to me. I wear waterproof sunscreen and a full face of makeup (including eyeliner, mascara - non waterproof) and this takes care of it all. I'm too lazy at night before bed to bother with eye makeup remover, cotton pads, etc.
- it does not irritate my skin NOR my eyes - another huge thing since most everything I try upsets my skin in some way or another.
- easy and fast application: I apply this cleanser on dry skin, massage it in on my face. I gently apply it with my fingers on my eyes and rub so that makeup dissolves (and yes, end up with racoon eyes! :) I then wet a flannel cloth (baby muslim cloth) in lukewarm water and remove everything. I go under and in between my lashes to ensure all eyeliner and mascara is removed - no irritation whatsoever and I am left with no trace of makeup. I could see where if I tried to rinse this off, there would be traces left behind - but with the cloth method, every thing comes off. I've done the toner test many times, and there is nothing left behind. I go straight into moisturizing afterwards.
I absolutely love this cleanser - there is nothing else like it for me.
I just can't get this to work for me. I feel it leaves a residue no matter how well I rinse. I bought this to replace the rinse off foaming cleanser which I used for years as I was starting to find the foaming one a bit drying. You only need a tiny bit of the foaming cleanser but so much more of this, so this won't last nearly as long.I just don't feel this removes make up or sunscreen well unless you wash it off with another cleanser which kind of defeats the purpose. But I have been using it as a pre-cleanse, as I don't know what else to do with it.And I wouldn't even attempt to take off eye make up with this. It's too expensive for what it does so I won't repurchase.
This cleanser is one of my top favorites, it leaves my skin super clean, I use this instead of the soap in the three step system and it is much better, if i have make up on then i simply uae some make up wipes before washing my face , skin is left clean and very fresh ðļ It's been a while since I stopped using it and I'm thinking of repurchasing
i have extremely sensitive combination skin with rosacea. this cleanser does not irritate or make me break out. it makes my skin feel comfortable. i believe the people that say they have to use oodles upon oodles of the product.... are just not using it properly. i use a pea sized amount of the cleanser and squish a splash of water with it in between my hands and massage it in (you need the little bit of water to make it glide around your face... otherwise, yeah you're gonna use half the bottle of cleaser). then i remove at night w/ a warm, damp wash cloth (gently). in the morning, i have the same routine but i don't use the wash cloth. i just massage it in and then rinse off, pat dry. the people complaining of it leaving a greasy film are using too much product and not rinsing properly. when used correctly, this is a fabulous product. if you have the skin type that would warrant using it, i would not immediately write this cleanser off. experiment a little in how you're using it to best suit your needs and you might be very pleasantly surprised.
This cleanser is genius. At first, it seems a bit scary because it is so heavy, i have combination skin and i was afraid that i would be too oily after that. But it is very good, i use it before i go to sleep and i don't even have to put on a moisturize cream, because i don't need to. I couldn't evaluate its capacity to clean makeup because i don't wear foundation, but the waterproof mascara doesn't go off after that, i need an oily solution for my eyes.
For my use it is ok, but i wouldn't recommend it for someone who wears a lot of makeup.
This product does work pretty okay for a makeup remover. My ony gripe is that I wish that it came in a bigger size is all. To use it to remove makeup, I find that I have to use lot of it actually. And, after I've completely aplied it all over my face, I then take a warm washcloth to thoroughly remove all makeup from off my face that way.
The best product that Clinique makes for removing makeup is their Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.
I have combination skin: its oily and dry at the same time. I am prone to breakouts.
I bought this late summer this year, because i wanted something for fall that wouldnīt dry my skin out (like the cleansing-soap does, which i find perfect for summer when my skin is oilier) It is pretty darn amazing. I donīt get breakouts form it, and i feel that it cleanses my skin perfectly fine without drying it out. Would recommend for sensitive skin as well.
Clinique products really do not agree with my skin. I used this and it brought out a lot of spots on my face and irritation. I find Clinique products to be very harsh so I won't repurchase not would I recommend.
While this did take off my makeup effectively, it also irritated my skin, which is disappointing..
