I work at an Aveda Experience Center so i have pretty much tried every Aveda product and Mosscara is no exception. We offer makeup touch-ups to guests (we always use disposable wands!) with this product and it is a great mascara! At first, when you use the product it can be a little messy, but with time it will dry up a little as all mascaras do and it becomes the perfect mascara for people who are looking for lashes to look more naturally defined and thicker looking. This mascara is made with moss which conditions your lashes which is why you lose less lashes and it makes your lashes feel super soft! This is no DiorShow Blackout so if you are looking for a dramatic, blackest black waterproof mascara, this is not for you. There are currently two shades the Black and Brown, which are both beautiful! I purchased one when i first started working there and was still loving the intense black mascara look so i wasn't overly excited about this mascara. However, i tried it again maybe a month later and have loved it ever since!
And P.S we do not test on animals!

This mascara kinda runs and does not stay on lashes:/ also aveda is owned by Estee Lauder which means this is an animal tested product!

I use Black Forest and I've noticed a great improvement in the thickness of my lashes. It can smudge so I'll put a different mascara on top of it. Overall I like it. It's expensive for a mascara IMO and I would repurchase bc I get a discount so it evens out. It's nourishing to the lashes.

Since I prefer my skincare and cosmetics to be more chemical-free, I've been using mascaras from Hauschka and Gabriele in recent years. But I happened to be getting a haircut at my Aveda salon and was on my way out of town when I realized I'd forgotten to pack mascara; so in a pinch, I bought the Mosscara at the salon. I cannot wait to return this stuff. I have never worn such crappy mascara, and my experiences over the years range from natural/expensive to cheap/tar-like. Not only did it do NOTHING to accentuate my lashes, it wore off after an hour and deposited its spent self under my eyes. I looked like I had horrible dark circles. I do not rub my eyes, don't tear or wear contacts. There was simply no reason for that mascara to not stay put. Non-performing is an understatement.

Ugh, I actually have to give this a 1....? This is the worst mascara I've ever used. It does absolutely nothing for me, in fact it makes my lashes look shorter, much thinner and barely noticeable. I've even tried using this with a thick primer but it still looks awful. For $15, I expected a lot more. It's worse than any drugstore brand I've ever tried from "back in the day". Aveda's Mosscara is supposed to give volume, whereas the Mascara Plus Rose is for lengthening. I don't think I even want to waste any more money on trying the other one. The only good thing I can say is that the brush is really nice. Based on that, I have no idea why it performs so awfully. I'm just going to stick with my Lancome mascara, can't go wrong there.

Aveda Mosscara is a very natural-looking mascara. I have tried brown and black. The black seems to smudge when I work out or wear a heavy moisturizer. Brown is perfect if you want that "J Crew model look". I do believe I have fewer lashes falling out when I use this. Overall, I very good choice for a natural look for anyone.

This is a great mascara for everyday. The brush is lush and thick and it does well to distribute the product. I have very short lashes and Mosscara does a great job to thicken and lengthen them. The look is natural and the product doesn't run or irritate my eyes.

This doesn't seem completely amazing to me, but I'm sort of a "so huge they look like falsies" lashes kinda girl so this may be great for others. I'm not sure about thickening, but I did hear that my lashes looked really long and it didn't clump. Two great things about this mascara- one, it comes off easily when i wash my face (great because i'm so lazy i never take my mascara off) and two, because after you take it off your lashes feel feather soft. I've had noticeably less lashes falling out also. Two great reasons for me to keep coming back.

I love this mascara! I keep going back to this. It doesn't clump when applying, my lashes are noticably thicker and the color looks natural. I've tried so many mascaras and I haven't found one that I could write a favorable review for, except this one. I absolutely love it.

I just got this today and I love it. I have extremely exxagerated sensitive eyes and nose..yes I'm the one who get headaches after trying so many mascaras they all smell like tar or freshly done roof tops- not a joke. And, this one is simple. My lashes look like I just came out of the shower look. Clean looking. I'm happy- my eyes and nose are too as well-NO HEADACHES:)
EDIT- Second purchase- This was terrible! Nothing happened to my lashes.

Nothing out of the ordinary for me about this mascara. For the price I expected more.

I've tried tons of mascara brands, and I really like this one. The scent is nice, but that's not a selling point for me. I have sensitive eyes, and auburn hair, so I need a mascara that is non-irritating and preferably not jet black. I picked this up in Espresso and I'm pleasantly surprised. It is a very natural looking mascara. If you want to look like you're wearing false lashes that extend up to your brows a la Kim Kardashian, this isn't for you. If you want a natural "you but better" look, this is a good choice. It extended my lashes slightly, separated them, and made them look longer, thicker, and just overall fantastic. One coat was all I needed. I would call it an "enhanced natural" look. I had no issues whatsoever with clumping, flaking, seepage, or a long drying time. Perhaps they have reformulated? I love this mascara and will definitely repurchase!

Bleh. I wanted to like this because I love Aveda's shampoos. Also, I liked the idea of having a natural mascara. But it just didn't have as much oomph as I had hoped. Didn't see much difference between this one and most drugstore brands. If you're looking for a lash tint, it's perfect, but if you want to build volume or length, I recommend Almay's one coat nourishing (triple effect) mascara.

Wonderful! I've been using MAC Fibre Rich and I switched over to this. The difference is amazing. This goes on so smoothly and although it's not a va-va voom effect, it looks natural and beautiful.

Yuck! This wet, clumpy mascara never dried on me. It smeared everywhere and generally looked terrible. It had the texture of melted chocolate on my lashes. Goes to show mascara can be different for everyone. My old staple CG Professional is far better quality than this.

The first time I used this product I didn't like it because it didn't give my lashes that "WOW" factor that other (non-natural) brands have given me. However, since I've turned over a new leaf and started using all-natural skin care and make-up products, I've returned to this one and I LOVE it. It makes my lashes look naturally defined; no clumps or dead giveaways that you are actually wearing mascara. I'm going for the natural look now, using tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, and natural earth tones for eyes and only a hint-of-color for lips. My mom gave a compliment on my makeup when I first started using this product. She said, "your face looks great and your lashes look SO NATURAL!" If you're going for the natural look, use this mascara. Other natural brands are sometimes more of a "lash-tint"; this one looks natural but it is still possible to sculpt a great shape and curl by using an eye-lash curler. I'm still curious to try other brands, but when dissappointed, I will always go back to this one.

I've repurchased this product repeatedly and will no doubt continue to do so- it's lovely stuff! It doesn't do anything terribly dramatic, but if you want conditioned, glossy, naturally defined lashes with a bit of lengthening and volumising effects, you'll love this... I know I do! Its conditioning formula means that I don't "lose" lashes during application, and my finished eye makeup is enhanced by glossy lashes that are soft to the touch. This product is scented and I do have sensitive eyes, but I've not had a bit of irritation from it.

This is my first time writing a makeup review, but I couldn’t resist because I love this product SO much! I’ve been using it for two years now, and whenever I veer off and try another mascara I always come right back to my black Mosscara with relief. If I had to describe this product in a word, it’d be “clean.” It is a light, simple formula that darkens, conditions, and seperates your lashes, but doesn’t perform pyrotechnics. It looks utterly natural – which is what I want 98% of the time. This looks perfect for a day in the park or a family dinner – your eyes will look great, but not like you’re trying too hard. If you want a mascara that doubles the legnth of your lashes or plumps them into an extravagant fringe, this isn’t for you. If you want an easy to apply, effective lash enhancer that looks great in natural light and perfect for the office, give this a try. For the reviewers who write about flaking, I must say I’m surprised. My best guess is that they tried to layer on too much product to get the more pronounced look they’re accustomed to. With one simple coat, I’ve never had any problem with flakes or smudges. In fact, I first wore this for a teary wedding because I was told that this is the most water-resistant formula that doesn’t have the chemical junk that most waterproof mascaras use.

Yarg. It sucks that this stuff flakes. Because it is otherwise perfect. But flakes are flakes and a flakey mascara makes a racoon looking girl.
