I want to give this 5/5 stars only because it is my go-to. The price is right and it stops my nails from chipping while being nice and shiny. I can't though for one major reason- It's not fast drying. It's tacky to touch in 30 seconds but is definitely not rock hard. However once it does dry I love it. I just have to make sure that I sit still for 30 minutes (while cursing myself for not peeing first).
This is still my go-to because the longterm results are good, if you have the patience.
NOT a fast drying top coat, it makes the polish rubbery and prone to imprints for hours. Also does not help against chipping. Don't bother.
I used to use Seche Vite as a top coat and this little drugstore gem blew it out of the water! To compare these two:
1. Seche Vite is thick, goopy. You need a separate specially made Seche Vite thinner to drop in the bottle to thin it back out again. Annoying. Not so with Sally Hansen, which has a thin, almost watery consistency. As a result, I no longer have manicures that are a few millimeter thick.
2. Seche Vite "shrinks" from the tip as it dries. To avoid that, you have to paint the tips of your fingers. Messy, messy, messy. Sally Hansen - none of that nonsense.
3. Both SV and SH are equal in terms of shininess.
4. Both SV and SH dry very quickly. I'm out of my chair in 10 minutes.
5. SV is hard to get, at least for me. SH is available at any drugstore. Cheaper, too!
So we have a clear winner: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri is now my favorite top coat. My manicure didn't chip, as promised, but it did wear at the tips by Day 4. I think the big deal for me, is the fact that my manicures no longer feel "thick", like it did with Seche Vite.
Now my process goes like this: Orly Bonder as base, two thin coats of nail color, then SH Insta-Dri top coat. All done in 30-45 minutes!
i bought this top coat because I heard that it was really good and I needed a new top coat so I read a lot of reviews and they all said it is amazing. I was quite disappointed with this top coat because the next day it had already chipped, when I did some washing it just came off. I was using quite a good nail polish, it was Essie. I do think it had a very good drying time though.
My favourite top coat by far! It doesn't chip for more than a week and dries within a minute! Also I love how it leaves a glossy finish, almost shellac-like, but that's a personal preference. I would absolutely recommend it!
works exactly how it says. short shelf life once ingredients are exposed to oxygen (it gets gummy fast)
I bought this based on reviews here and I'm glad I did. I also like NYC Grand Central Station. But this topcoat might actually work a bit better. I find that with this one I really don't have the shrinkage issues that I can have with other topcoats. I will definitely repurchase this one. Does a very good job of setting my polish. I use the Revlon basecoat and my polish lasts very well. This works with all brands of polish too. Definitely worth a try.
I like this topcoat quite a bit - and it compares favorably to more expensive topcoats in my book!
The best feature is that it truly dries your polish in just a few seconds. I have applied this, then went to do laundry (and we know how hard that is on nails) and had only the tiniest of marks left on the glossy coating. The color underneath was not smudged or smeared at all -- even with only a couple of minutes wait between application and digging in the washer.
Insta-Dri gives a shiny look to the nails and they wear pretty well. I tend to change my polish frequently, so I can't really speak to the "two weeks of wear" that some gals might want... but for me it's a staple and one that I definitely repurchase over Poshe, Seche or OPI products.
I am so in the minority here. I am kinda disappointed that I am almost the only one who hates this top coat. I love the fact that it dries super fast, dries soo shiny and smooth. But that's about it. The anti-chipping part is a FAIL and I always get chips the next day or two with any regardless of neon or not. I really don't get it and I have tried this 6 times now, each time with a different brand, China Glaze, OPI, Sally Hansen, L'oreal, Avon and Butter London. Oh well, in the trash it goes. Why don't they bring back the Sally Hansen Age Correct No Chip Base + Topcoat??!! That was soooo amazing, my manicures would last 6-7 days. Grrr.
After trying a bunch of different top coats, this is the one I'll be returning to. It really does dry in 30 seconds, even if you have multiple coats of polish underneath. It makes your nails look glossy, smooth and professionally done and only costs $10! Plus, the fact that it comes in a red bottle makes it easy to spot quickly at the drugstore.
