Recently I have ready amazing reviews on this product and when I broke out in FIVE different places on my face I went to Ulta to get it. I have combination skin with some cystic acne and the frequent breakouts. This product is great for cystic acne. Anyways, I have been using it for two nights already and my pimples aren't nearly as red!!! You can barely see them and my cystic acne is slight less noticeable! This really works. I haven't been using this for very long so I will post again or make any changed if the product no longer works or works even better. I would DEFINITELY get this if you were in my situation!!
This product really works! I occasionally get cysts & would have the bump for MONTHS but with this product the bump goes away within a few days. Can't recommend this product enough!
Unfortunately I'm going to have to give a low rating for this product-it just didn't work for my cystic acne, and the price definitely didn't help. I had about 2-3 large cysts on my chin on a daily basis after I tried to wean myself off of spironolactone. After reading some very promising reviews on Mario Badescu products, I decided to give this a try. This was the most I've ever spent on topical OTC acne medication, and hoped it would work as well as it seemed to for many people.
I tried this for 2 weeks, shaking it well and applying a dab on each cyst every night using clean fingertips. It really didn't do much other than dry out the patch of skin above and around the skin of the cyst--but the cystic bump was still there, raised and scarring. The cyst still took about 1-2 weeks to reduce in size, and leaves that small bump of scars that would take another while to heal.
I'm disappointed, as it seemed promising for many people. I've decided to refund this and switch back to spironolactone. This product may be ok for non-hormonal-acne, but won't do much for those that are hormone-induced.
I'm obsessed with this product! I heard about it through a friend who told me to give it a try...now its my go-to product for blemishes. I rub it in the areas I normally break out and poof they're gone! Sometimes I will use it in the daytime over a blemish (place a Qtip underneath it so it doesnt run all over the place) which masks the red color and almost hides it without being too cakey with makeup. Make sure to shake it up before applying.
First of all, a godly product. I have super sensitive and acne prone skin. SUPER.
This buffering lotions blocks all the incoming cysts like no other. Especially when paired with the Drying Mask and Healing and Soothing mask.
I would apply this on my jawline area since I get hormonal cysts every month prior to my period. This has helped me greatly. This works. Whenever I feel an under the surface painful bump coming, I would apply this followed by the drying mask on that spot for a night. The next night, I would apply Healing and Soothing mask overnight on the spot and, tada, the pain and the bump would have went away by then. <3 Thank you Mario Badescu~
For years I had a small rash of pimples on the side of my face near omy hairline. I was using Serious Skincare's Clear-Zit at the time and those zits just refused to go away. I went to Ulta, thinking maybe I'd try the Mario Badescu pink lotion, which I'd heard good things about. The salesgirl instead directed me to the Buffering Lotion which is more for cystic acne. The pimples cleared up in less than a week and I've never used a different acne treatment since. This stuff is AMAZING. My monthly hormone pimples are gone before they ever fully form! The only thing I don't like is the bottle. It's hard to control the amount you get from it. And you have to shake it well to mix the product so I think they could have used something nicer than a cheap plastic squeeze bottle - especially considering the cost.
I have long been in search of something like this. I had perfect (PERFECT) skin all through my teen years, through college, through early adulthood, and then right around 27, bam. I suddenly had horrible hormonal acne. Not the occasional pimple around my period, but legit cysts, deep, red, inflammed, and completely unresponsive to treatment. It was either cysts or these horrible, giant whiteheads right around my lip. Not attractive at all.
So you name it, I've tried everything. This has been the first thing that's ever actually WORKED.
Granted, it's not a miracle product, but I don't think one exists for acne of that kind. But what the buffering lotion DID do was speed up the cycle of the pimple and reduce the scarring, which let's be honest, was the best I could hope for.
My story (and I apologize for the grossness of the pimple descriptions!):
So I felt a monster pimple coming on above my upper lip on a Thursday morning. By the end of the day, the little red dot was a dime-sized cysts, red and inflammed and super painful. For Thursday - Sunday, it didn't budge. Sunday night, I ran to Nordstrom to try the Buffering Lotion (I'm a recent Mario Badescu convert after getting hooked on his Glycolic Face Wash). By Wednesday, the giant red cyst had turned into a giant, disgusting whitehead. I know that sounds horrible, but anyone whose ever had a horrible pimple knows that there's nothing worse than when it's a red cyst nowhere near going away. At least a whitehead means it's nearing the end of its cycle. By Thursday (one week after it started), it popped, more or less on its own. I used a combo of the Buffering Lotion and Neosporin on it. Now, the skin is still healing, but it's much, much better, and doesn't seem as if it will leave a big scar.
This isn't a miracle in terms of putting it on and waking up with miraculously clear skin. But it DID speed up the life of the pimple, because I've had similar cysts in the past that have lingered for weeks upon weeks before turning into a whitehead. The fact the Buffering Lotion got me there in one week flat has me sold.
It's not cheap -- $17 for a very small bottle at Nordstrom -- but you're literally only using a drop with each application, so I'd imagine it would last a very, very long time. And $17 isn't so expensive that it would prohibit me buying it for what the results are.
The taste/smell isn't great, but again, it worked, and it doesn't seem like this pimple (so tragically placed on my upper lip) will leave a big scar. The packing is a little dropper bottle -- not the best, not the worst.
While I'd rather never have a pimple again, I know that's not reality, and I can't wait to see what happens with it when I use it from the onset of a pimple, not starting with it three days in.
The first few times I had used it, I really didn't see much difference. Reading some of the reviews however, I noticed that those who experienced a quick stinging upon contact with lotion usually said that it shrank their pimples. I never experienced that so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. While of course stinging isn't an indicator of a product's efficacy, I just thought that it meant the product was really getting into the the pimples. So I did something I haven't done since forever: I started washing my face with warm water. I thought maybe it would "open" my pores so the product could get under my skin. And it made all the difference!
The first night I washed my face with warm water, I put the buffering lotion on my face and just slept. I am on my first few weeks of Accutane so I am currently getting cystic pimples every now and then. I used the lotion to spot treat the cysts on my forehead. However, my cheeks/jaws are filled with a mix of cystic pimples, blackheads and pus-filled zits so I put the lotion liberally on this area. The next day, the cystic pimples shrank by 40-50%! The other pimples, while still there, looked like they were on their way to drying.
I've been doing this for around 10 days now and my pimples are going away. I'm around 70% clear now. I'm almost sure that with some more uses, I'll finally be clear.
Now as pointed out by other users, this lotion is effective on cystic pimples. But I put this on pus-filled pimples as well and it dries them too. What I do is I pour it directly onto the skin and rub with a cotton ball. Then I pour a second time and let it sit on top of the pimple. The next morning the zit is still there with the pus, but it has dried a little and with 2-3 more washes and lotion use, it would be gone.
I don't use the lotion every other night as advised. I use it 2-3 times a day (every time I wash my face) but it never dries my skin, just my pimples. BUT my skin is not sensitive so I don't advise you doing the same if yours is.
So there. For those of you who used the lotion in the past and found it ineffective at the time, you may want to try it again with warm water this time, especially if you still have your bottles. I can't promise this will be as effective on you as it is on mine, but I really hope it is. If you try it and find it effective, please like this post so that others may see it too. Thanks!
I LOVE this product. I have always suffered from acne and recently I have been suffering from HORRIBLE acne due to switching my birth control. I'm 26 and I have literally tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. This is the ONLY product I have ever used that has significantly reduced my pimples.
I do have some cystic acne and also pain in the @$$ pimples that come up all over my face. I drench my pimples with this stuff and the NEXT DAY it is drastically minimized.
I highly recommend trying this, this has been truly God sent for me.
OH MY GOSH!!! THIS IS HEAVEN SENT!!!!
I've been suffering from this horrible allergy outbreak for the last week and a half but the redness finally died down but I was left with a couple of really deep painful cysts (they're definitely as gross as they sound) so I tried absolutely everything to make them go down but they were so deep that the pressure was killing me.
I went out LAST NIGHT and bought the buffering lotion at ulta (because every ulta pretty much carries this line but it's not advertised online)...
Anyway, got home, washed my face and then put it on... sat around for a few hours then showered put some more on and went to bed. Now, let me tell you that these two pimples that I had (I had more but these two were the most painful) were SUPER raised and it hurt to even wear makeup on them and it was impossible to conceal them but this morning I woke up and they were FLAT!!!!!!!!
They're still there but I can feel them going down when I apply the lotion. Now when I say lotion, don't think "moisturizer" it's kind of like a toner and yeah it has a funky smell but it's nothing to cry about because you can barely smell it.
I will say that it makes your skin a little itchy but this is because the product is working on the pimple (that sounds weird but it's true!)
I apologize for the lack of punctuation but I just HAD to get on here and rant about it. I'd also like to mention that I have EXTREMELY finicky skin and I'm allergic to silicones so I'm very limited as to what I can use on my face but this product is heaven sent.
I know there's other reviews which give it really bad ratings but you'll never know until you try, I do recommend you purchase it at ulta or at nordstrom (if you have one nearby) so if it doesn't work you can return it and get your money back.
ANOTHER thing is that the container is TINY so shelling out almost 20 bucks on a little dropper of solution kind of sucks but it WORKS so would you rather spend 2384932 dollars doing trial and errors with drugstore items or spend 20 bucks on a product that's pretty much guaranteed to work?
