Had a bad allergic rash-y reaction to AMlactin so i thought i'd give this a try. something to help my eczema or KP. It didn't. I didnt burn as much as the Amlactin, maybe because it's only 5% and not 12% like the AMlactin. It did make my skin quite soft though, my KP redness didn't go away and my arm where i had eczema had a bright red rash, ill move onto something more soothing, maybe it might work for someone whose skin isnt so sensitive, for that reason i give it two stars not one.

Every fall/winter, I get little bumps on the back on my thighs. Only when it gets cold, and nowhere else but scattered on the back of my legs. I hesitate to call the spots KP, but who knows. Regardless, this is the ONLY lotion that gets rid of the bumps, and makes my legs nice and smooth again. Granted, this is not a luxurious lotion, doesn't smell good (actually I don't think it has much of a smell at all), and is not in a pretty bottle. However, considering how well this stuff works, I could care less about all that. I don't even use this every day; (I would if I remembered to moisturize every day), but more like 3-4x/week, and it still works wonders! I've tried Amlactin in the past, and not only does it stink, it was very goopy (like rubbing in glue), and was not nearly as effective as Lac-Hydrin. The Lac-Hydrin goes on smooth, maybe takes a minute to dry, but for me, in sinks in completely, especially if you don't use too much (and you shouldn't really need to). Other reviewers have talked about using this stuff on your face, which I never would have thought of, but it makes sense. When I remember, (I usually just slather on my regular face moisturizer, forgetting about using this), I put this on my cheeks, as they get very dry in the winter. As of yet, have no had any negative effects from using this on my face, and I like the idea of using something other than salicylic acid to help keep my face clear of random small spots that may pop up. Would definitely buy this again, and have repurchased many times already. The price is a little steep for a drugstore moisturizer, but considering the effects this stuff has, is worth every penny. A little goes a long way, so the bottle should last quite awhile. This is truly my HG winter moisturizer!

I saw this stuff in the drugstore, and got so excited to see a lotion with LACTIC acid and not glycolic acid! I have reactions to the latter. I've been plagued by flesh-colored bumps alllllll over my face for about 4 months now, ever since I used the Oil Cleansing Method, and then on my honeymoon two months ago the bumps were made worse by using Clean and Clear Blackhead scrub. Since then the bumps have only gotten worse, and some have turned into pustules. It's disgusting... But I started using this stuff a few days ago, and ALREADY my face is looking better and better! My face looks a little shiny, but if I put it on before bed, I wake up with beautiful looking skin, not shiny! I love it so far and plan to buy it again. It's a rare day when I can use something on my face and not break out, but the breaking out part usually happens a week after the start of using a new product... We'll see.

This product is a GREAT moisturizing lotion, for the face or the body. In the winter time, this is a must have. The bottle is also fairly huge, so it's lasted me a loonnngg time. I use a tiny bit on my face every night and rub the excess into my hands and it has done wonders for my rough skin.

I bought this product several weeks ago after reading the reviews here and can I just say, AMEN.
Backstory: I have incredibly (INCREDIBLY) oily skin that's also really sensitive and highly reactive (in a bad way) to strong products. Most foundations break me out, most lotions and moisturizers just sit on top of my skin and make me oilier, etc. It's a lot of fun. I've been using Tazorac for the last few months to help clear up my skin and while I love the results, it's left me with dry patches, flakes, and an overall dull face. I'm still fundamentally oily, though, so I was sort of at an impasse; where could I find s moisturizer that a) would eliminate the dry flakiness, b) wouldn't add to the existing oil slick, and c) wouldn't break me out?
Well, this is it. I absolutely could not be happier or more amazed. Within a week of using this lotion at night underneath the Tazorac, my flakes are completely gone and my face looks even and much more refined. It hasn't broken me out, it hasn't left me oily... I love it!
EDIT: I used this religiously for months and inevitably it started to break me out. I still use it on my body but I guess over time it just became too much for my face. I've been using Jan Marini's Transformation Cream for several months now and my skin just gets better and better.

This stuff is AMAZING. It works wonderfully on my face, which is very sensitive, making it smooth, even, and flake free, and it is the ONLY product that has ever made a real difference on my cracked, callused heels. The perfect lotion for both face and feet? It's hard to believe, but this is the only thing I've ever used that I would call a HG product, and I love it.
I started using it because I was on the acne.org regimen, which requires a lot of benzoyl peroxide which is very drying. This winter my skin started getting very flaky, it was really driving me crazy. I tried lots of things that would work for awhile, but then my skin would get tight and flaky a few hours later. Then someone suggested this, and within a week my flakes were gone, and they stayed away for the rest of the winter.
It can sting a little when you first use it, and if you use it too often. I only use it once a day, so usually I will use it in the morning and Cerave lotion at night. Cerave is a good product as well, but the Lac Hydrin 5 is what is making the difference. The miracle ingredient is the Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which I have read "dissolves the glue that holds dead skin cells together." Supposedly it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, though I have not experienced this and I am extremely pale and prone to sunburn. But if you're going to be outside just make sure to wear a sunscreen (like Trader Joe's Enrich SPF 15) and you're good to go.
I used to order it online, but recently found in at CVS, hidden on the very bottom shelf. It may not be organic or in a fancy bottle, but this shit works.
Pros:
Wonderful moisturizer
Does not cause breakouts (and I am EXTREMELY break out prone)
Improves skin texture and tone
Fades old acne marks
Absorbs well, doesn't make your skin shiny
Cons:
Stings a bit, but this goes away after consistent use
Slightly tacky feel
Makes your skin more sensitive to the sun

I have KP and have since I was a kid. I read that lactic acid helps so i bought this product on Amazon. I have been using this lotion on my upper arms for a week and it has helped, but not to the degree I was hoping. I haven't had stinging. This lotion has dimethicone which I do not recommend as a hair stylist for hair. It also contains petrolate, not non-acnegenic. When I run out, I will seek a different lactic acid lotion.

You only need to use a thin layer of this product to get results, any more will just cause unnecessary irritation. This pretty much makes up for the price. I havent tried Amlactin yet, I might try that next. I think they are pretty much the same. But this really has been getting the rid of the flakies that I get from retin-a. I put this on at night, since AHA's make you more sensitive to the sun and then I wear a sunscreen during the day. It has made my pores smaller and my skin appear smoother.

I used to use this exclusively for kp on my arms, and it was good, but not great. I keep expecting to find something that will actually eliminate the terrible rashy stuff, and I keep being disappointed. It softened my skin all over, but didn't stop the tons of red bumps.
Then during a very dry, cold winter I went out on a limb and tried it on my face, which was dry and flaky in patches, though still oily. My skin is somewhat sensitive, very oily, and prone to hormonal, blocked-pore and stress breakouts. I kept expecting this to break me out... but it didn't... and hasn't in the 1.5 years since then... it smoothes and softens my skin, and really aids in exfoliation, a major problem for me.
I definitely would not recommend this for everyone. The potential problems are great - it's super-hydrating, oily as anything, and if you have a problem with any of the ingredients, AVOID. But if you're using it anyway and you're plagued by dry patches and unhappy with your facial moisturizer, hey, give it a try. It's now a staple of mine, I can't be without it.

I'm always looking for the winning combo to achieve even skin tone all over so my research has led me to trial body lotions with either glycolic acid or AHA's so I decided to try this lotion. I use it after my shower instead of EVOO or Coconut Oil & I liked the results. Though I do feel like most other products, it stops when you stop - I wish there was something to give me the results without going back once I run out. Anyhoo, I'm trialing AHA's Enhanced Lotion now - we shall see. **I also used a Sulfur soap on my body when I used this lotion so that may have had something to do with the results as well. Sadly, this was too oily for me. When I put on after shower, it still feels sticky next morning. Also my skin broke out from using this cream. I wished this cream worked on me at least where I need it most, like on my elbows, knees etc..I prefer CeraVe as my all over body cream. For the problem areas (elbows knees), I started using water peeling before applying body lotion for better result.

I found this product to very harsh and not helpful at all in treating my kp on my arms. :(
Its smells terrible as well.
If you do have kp, I found that switching to natural soap (olive oil soap in my case) to not dry out my skin, taking omega 3 fatty acids supplements, using a loofa in the shower and moisterizing with a very gentle but good lotion ( I use alba unsented body lotion) can help a lot.

This product is the greatest thing ever for dry, cracked heels. I have tried everthing - lotions, creams, ointments, anti-fungal cream, etc., to no avail. After using this on my feet once or twice a day for two weeks, my dry, cracked, snaggly heels are now soft and smooth. I also use it on my hands, and so far this winter no cracked skin on my fingers either. Try it - you will not be disappointed. The only downside is the ammonia-like smell, but I only notice that when using on my face or when my hands are near my face, but it does go away.

ONLY thing that has worked for my KP. I'll bite the $14 the bottle costs because it lasts me forever -- you only need a little bit -- and it WORKS. Trust me. I've had KP since I was six and it's gone! Now, how to fade the spots?

I think I had KP... had it for about 4 or 5 weeks. A pharmacist rec'd Lac-Hydrin and Cera Ve. Have been using both and the rash is completely gone, AND my skin has never been softer. Both of these lotions go one easily and soak right in - no greasy feeling. Yes, they are more expensive but I in this case it's worth the extra $.

A winner! I use this lotion on my face, elbows, knees, hands, feet, and other dry spots. Helps keep my pores clear, although I must still supplement with extractions (albeit to a lesser extent than before I started using this product). The AHAs have also improved my dry elbows and knees. In winter, I like to use both this under Cetaphil cream for extra moisturizing. I prefer fragrance-free products, so the lack of scent doesn't bother me.

I don't have acne or KP, but always thought I had really dry skin. Once I hit 45 my face started to flake - I'd slather on moisturizers, use mild detergents, exfoliate and still, there'd be those flakes. they'd get caught up in my foundation, and at least to me, made my skin look awful. I mentioned my problem to my doc and he wrote a (I think a 12% strength?). It was love at first use! Gone were the flakes, it took very little lotion to get the right feel and my skin looked better than it had in years. After using it for about 1 1/2 months, though, I started to have the strangest reaction - my tongue swelled up and the inside of my mouth developed blisters. Since the lotion was the ONLY thing I had started using new, we assume I must have had an allergic reaction to it. I did read somewhere that you are not to use it for longer than 2 weeks, without a doctor's ok - this might apply to the higher dose version only, but be careful. I stopped it completely for a couple of weeks and was back to normal. As I can't give it up completely, I plan to use the lotion a couple of times a week only and watch myself carefully.

This lotion is great! I'm using it as a night time moisturizer for my face. I wanted something to exfoliate my skin and help with clogged pores as well. So, at first I tried products containing salicylic acid and found they just don't work for me. Next, I tried alpha hydroxy acid products, and while they performed well smoothing my skin out, they gave me some bad cystic acne as well. Then I did some research and found this lotion. Although it contains lactic acid, it is really mild. It doesn't sting or burn my face at all. Please note, for your face, you don't need much of the product...just a bit over pea size will do. Anyway, what it's done for me is smoothed the texture of my skin somewhat and has evened out my skin tone. Not only that, it's adequately moisturizing (not too dry or too greasy), has no scent, and does a good job fading old acne scars. I have not broke out at all with this lotion either, and in fact, I think it's preventing it from happening! I'm VERY satisfied!

I don't have any major skin problems, no kp, very little acne (one pimple a month at most), and my skin isn't horribly dry. I bought this lotion just because I wanted really soft skin without having to put lotion on all the time that didn't really work. This stuff smells like white glue, comes in an ugly bottle, but works like a charm. On a side note, my dog loves the smell and taste of this stuff, he won't stop licking my legs when I put this on (I have to lock the bathroom door until the lotion is absorbed). Anyway, it makes my legs sooo soft, and not that greasy kind of soft you can get from some lotions just truly mosturized skin. I use this on my face too, and although I rarely have pimples I do have stubborn blackheads that have deminished greatly since using this lotion. My face is very glowy and smooth, what more could I ask for? I would recommend this lotion, just keep it away from your dogs.

So I hate to be all, "This product is the ONLY thing that has worked on my acne, EVER," because they're so misleading, but honestly -- this product is the ONLY thing that has worked on my adult acne. I've tried it all, from retinols to super-fancy all-organic products, and they all worked for a week or two but otherwise left me with a case of dry skin surrounding the zits (I call it "the ring of fire") and didn't do much to prevent new pimples.
But not this stuff! Oh, no. Recently I realized that less is more, and that blasting my face with super-strong medications just irritates my skin (which, if it's breaking out, is already pretty irritated to begin with). I mix equal parts Lac Hydrin Five with Complex 15 (also found at the drugstore, in a very utilitarian, unglamorous bottle) and the next morning I am glowing, less oily, and yet also moisturized. It shrinks old zits and keeps the new ones from coming up, it's cheap (especially when you consider it's $12.99 for eight ounces and how long that will last) and it works on the body, too. I can't recommend it highly enough!
