Usually an Aveda fan, I was dissapointed by this particular shadow. It is called "Gobi Sands" and it is very lightly pigmented. Although is is a duo of a SAND color and a taupe and as such is supposed to be mellow, its a little TOO mellow upon application. Layering will be the only to go, and that can get messy (too much powder floating around). Won't repurchase.
Positives: very matte! Great for a young girl just playing with makeup or a man/woman wanting a subtle- REALLY subtle- enhancement.

Such a lovely duo I have although I have no idea what the colours are called! Lovely pigmentation and texture. Would repurchase :)

I wet a small eyeliner brush and apply desert bronze shadow as a natural-looking eyeliner. It's the best brown eyeliner I've found! I've had the eyeshadow I bought for three years and I use it almost every day, so it's worth the price for something so long-lasting! I highly recommend Aveda eyeshadows in general for a natural look and ingredients that are non-irritating and good for your skin. Be warned: you need to buy a separate magnetic compact to hold and protect it.

I love the minimal packaging of these shadows, the colour range could be a bit better. The main problem for me is getting them out of the pan and on to your lids. You really have to load the brush with shadow and then press it on your lids. The SA told me they work better with Aveda brushes, but I have their brushes and still had the application problem. They are also not very long lasting. I think the old formulation of this product was better.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but these shadows, although available in beautiful, environmentally friendly colors, did not work for me. Even on a primed lid, their staying power was a couple of hours and then the flaking began. There was also transfer difficulty from palette to brush. Love Aveda and really wished these were better.

I am extremely pleased with the quality of Aveda's eyeshadows and I have been a fan of them for several years. There are many factors on why this is my favorite line for eyeshadow (and makeup overall actually). Here are some of the reasons or benefits:
- The pigment, shows and is lasting when primed well
- They are made of natural ingredients, esp. like the NO talc
- They are soft, prettty colors
- You can layer them to make them as natural or as bold as you like
- I love the whole eco-friendly packaging concept
- $11 is a reasonable price point
- I like that I can shop for my makeup after I get my hair cut : )
- Happy, happy, happy with Aveda eye shadow in general! : )

I have tried many, many brands of eye shadow, from all of the main drug store brands to the department store brands. I tried this because my hair salon sells it. Aveda's eye shadow is the best I have ever used. Regardless of color, the pigment is nice, it goes on smoothly , it stays on all day, and the packaging is nice. Instead of buying a compact each time you buy more shadow, you buy a refillable compact. Love it. Will always use it.

I have been using the Aveda Petal Essence eye color for about a week now and am loving it. It has wonderful "buildability" meaning I can wear light layers to work during the day and can reapply more layers in the evening for a more dramatic look. Doesn't cake or crack. Light shimmer is not overwhelming and gives a natural glow. Great product. Also love the environmentally friendly packaging!

I've got a bunch of the Petal Essence shadows in the big silver compact - mostly neutral/earth tones - moon, lemon spice, aurora, willow, dahlia, aura, sunset, desert bronze, earthen, and a bunch of others. I also have the shadow duos in copper/riverbed and iris/azurite. I love the packaging and the fact that you can mix/match colors. I use these when I don't feel like messing with my pots of BE eyeshadow, or don't want all the shimmer that BE shadows have. The Aveda colors are nice and there's a good color range, and I like the texture and consistency of the shadows. They are easy to apply and offer an extremely natural "you but better" look - a sheer wash of color that you can layer and build. The colors last well and don't crease. They look great with my uruku kava liner and espresso mosscara! Also the single compact is great for minimalizing clutter in the makeup bag. I like these and if I ever run out, will definitely repurchase.

My best friend in college started working in an Aveda salon and I got hooked on this stuff WAY back... remember the heavy gold ridged clamshell case??? The one that held either 1 powder, 4 shadows, 2 blushes or a blush and two shadows... with the black surround to the pan?!?!? Aieee... Well, I've returned to the land of Aveda, mostly b/c I can't deal with the clutter of other lines... so many little, individual pots! Uck! I find that between Aveda and Trish McEvoy, I have a nice little collection in a small space... Aveda is a close cousin, size-wise, to TM's pans, and I find the quality comparable. They stay on all day (I do use an E/S base... L'Oreal's Air Wear concealer in Brightener is the best), go one subtle or dramatic, take to water very well (i.e. I can use them wet for liner). What I like best is that I can see all of my colors at once (or, at least flip from page to page) and then assemble my LOTD to carry around. Pricey? Sure. Hard to find? Somewhat. But I have tons and I love them. So there.

I used to love love love Aveda's Shadow Plus Vitamins. They had a wide range of natural looking shades, all of them with excellent pigment and staying power. However, the new formulation of Aveda's shadows (Petal Essence), is absolutely awful. The color absolutely refuses to jump from the pan to my brush, no matter what I do. I finally got some color out of the pan using a sponge-tip applicator, but it was awfully hard to get enough onto my lids for the color to actually show up. And then it creased within 2 hours! I had the same probably with many colors, so it is not exclusive to just one color. I am very disappointed.

I like the color selection with the eye shadows and that I can try them on before buying, unlike the drug store! TIP: Because the powder shadows are talc-free, you need to PAT the color on instead of brushing it like you normally would do. You'll find you suddenly get much better color application and staying power. If you brush it on, you are brushing it off as well. I like the magnetic system here - can put all sorts of colors in the compact and put other things in there too, like bronzer, blush, or powder.

These eyeshadows flaked all over, were difficult to apply and have no staying power whatsoever. I liked some of them nice neutral colors but they are so sheer that they are not worth the hassle. I like Aveda's environmentalism, but I am very disappointed in their make-up, in general.
My own personal disclaimer: My BF works at an Aveda salon so I get to try all of their products...

I gave these a go because there's such a HYPE about anything Aveda here in the UK, and I was looking for a green eyeshadow with warm undertones, which not many branches have.THANK God I applied it on my eyelids and walked around all day with it. Well it started flaking straight away, so I didn't have it on all day at all!I still thank God I didn't buy it straight away. The colour selection was dreadful, definitely not suited for pale girls, and the quality of the product appalling, and it's so expensive! More expensive than chanel's!!!Plus the package is a joke. A lot of branches do recyclable stuff that looks much nicer. This one is a big no no.

Love them love them, love them! The new petal essence formulation does not crease and lasts me all day. Great color selection from neutrals to bolder shades! I have a few compacts filled and they're awesome!!!!!

I filled a palette with these incredibly soft, smooth, fantastically pigmented shadows. I'm not sure why they're discontinuing such great colours (mostly neutrals) at my local Aveda store, but I got them for $10 CAN each!

I love the color selection (I find the natural ones much more 'natural' looking than Bobby Brown's collection) and consistency (smooth). Great highlighter colors, too. Can crease over time (which is why I reserve one lippy) but they've just reformulated and I've been told they've fixed this (haven't tried yet).

These don't crease on me, lasting all day; they last quite a while-- leave good color without having to lay down a thick coat. I don't like Aveda's trend toward sparklies, because their matte colors have always been really good for me-- it's gotten hard to find true matte shadows. I keep the individual colors in their little disposable trays, & just put a piece of heavy-duty double-stick (used for carpets) tape (it's thin but ultra-sticky) under the pan to hold it in the tray. Works just fine, the clear package is really sturdy. Try to snap colors up when old shades are being d/c'ed-- salons/ shops mark them BOGO free/ BOGO 1/2-off, & then they are really reasaonable. IMO, they are better than most; there are better, but not at this pricepoint. continued >>
