I wouldn't consider this gel polish, It simply seems like a base a topcoat packaged and sold together. I used it twice before wrote this review. The first test run was with the extraordinaire polish that is sold with it. the second time with a polish that was still L'Oreal but just something I bought last year. Both instances held up really well for traditional Nail polish It did not hold up like Gel polish. It begin to chip within a 5 days. with normal use of my hands, which is pretty normal for at home manis. I think that it would work for quick manicure but it your looking a for long lasting go with traditional Gel. There isn't much difference between this an others tops and bases, which is why I wouldn't necessarily buy it again. The shine is great and you can use it with any polish. I prefer traditional polish over gel polish in general because I tend to be no committal with my polish, so if you are that way it may work for you. I would suggest just buy the top and base, and go crazy with the color because the offered selection is limited.
Let me save you all some money!! Don't buy this!! I really wish I had looked on MUA before I bought this stuff. It was so alluring at Target...."buy me", "buy me". I have never had a gel manicure before but from what I know, it's supposed to last longer than an ordinary manicure. L'Oreal should be ashamed of themselves! This is a blatent waste of money! The "primer" and the "gel top coat" are packaged together and you buy them separately -- at Target this was between $9 and $10 for both. The color is sold separately. I chose a burgundy red color that I can't remember the name of -- another $6 bucks. I followed the directions. First the primer, then the color, then the gel top coat. First of all, I have no complaints with the primer...it's a base coat. The color was very pretty and dried quickly down to a very matte finish. The gel top coat makes this very shiny and it looked very pretty for about 12 hours. Then...chip, chip, chip. Seriously??? So mad! I was touching this up daily! My normal manicure routine is China Glaze, Orly or OPI and Seche Vite top coat. Any of those three polishes and the Seche Vite top coat blow this L'Oreal "gel treatment" out of the water. You are supposed to be able to take this off with regular nail polish remover and I believe it!!! #1 - As I sit here, I am able to pretty much just pick it off and #2 - This IS regular nail polish with a base coat and top coat that L'Oreal markets as "gel" to jump on the gel trend and charge more money. Very disappointed and won't buy again. Hope I'm able to save someone else the money. :-(
This is a three-step system: base coat, color coat, and top coat.
Positives: It dries really quickly. The colors are very nice.
Negatives: No wearing power to speak of! I tried this twice, and it started rubbing and chipping after 3 days. It's really not as gel-like as it advertises. Somewhat shiny, but nothing special. It's really expensive to buy the three steps.
I would not likely buy this again. I really wanted to like it, but I'm giving it to a friend.
I have very tricky nails. They don't like most brands or some formulas. Most polishes peel of my nails in one whole piece in a day or 2 no matter how much I buff them or what base coat I use.
I saw this set of base and top coats and didn't realize you needed the special polishes to go with it. I jumled right on it and used them with my regular polishes and there was no special difference. So I read the packaging and saw that I needed the polishes that go with the set. I bought 3 colors. This system is just like any other polish system. I so no resemblance to a gel manicure. My nails are chipping, ru bing and peeling just like anything else I have tried. $9.99 for the base and top coat set. They aren't special enough for me to repurchase. I will review the colors separately.
