I'm not sure how to describe Ether. I think this is a color that everyone sees a little differently. The UD website calls it "pale smoky gray shimmer w/violet & fuchsia micro-sparkle." I see it of as a muted grey-violet with multicolor shimmer and sparkle. The sparkle is heavy enough that it shows up on the eyelid, but it's not overbearing. It s a very lovely color, soft and ethereal. I can see it coordinating with a lot of shadow colors with no problem.
Again, like almost all of the UD 24/7 eyeliners, it wears forever and it's impossible to draw fine lines due to the creaminess of the formula. However, unlike most UD eyeliners, it takes a couple of swipes for the color to appear. But the color can be built up, though don't expect anything bold.
I love this liner. It's a unique color, sort of a medium dusky gray that that sometimes looks taupe or mushroom toned and is coated with a dusting of purple, pink, blue, and gold micro-shimmer. It glimmers so prettily when it catches the light and it picks up the tones in a variety of eyeshadow colors, which makes it very versatile. It looks great with violet or copper shadow but my absolute favorite pairing is with Chanel's Fauve all across the lid and a matte lavender or gray in the crease with a heavy dose of this on both the upper and lower lashlines. If you're on the pale side and like a dramatic eyeliner but have trouble with the harshness of black and gray liners then this is a good alternative. It's a very soft color.
Creamy, silky texture that's easy to apply and as buttery as all of UD's liners. It's not as pigmented as some of their other shades but I have no problem getting a rich line from it in two passes. Stays put all day and I never notice any annoying amounts of transferring from the shimmer. This is in my top five all time favorite liners and I hope they never discontinue it.
I'm not a fan of most of Urban Decay's new eyeliner pencils. They don't seem as highly pigmented as the old ones and the formula isn't quite as smooth on most of them. Ether is a faint, gray color that reminds me of the color of pencil lead markings with little bits of bright purple glitter suspended in it. It doesn't show up well on me, and I'm rather on the pale side of things. My husband didn't even believe that I was wearing eye makeup on the day that I wore it, so it's definitely a subtle, barely there look for me. Not really worth the money or effort, in my opinion.
