I remember the time I turned 30. My skin has always been a huge forte of mine and as a daughter of a dermatologist I have always taken great care of it and cared about skincare a lot. I think when I was around 31-32 I started noticing that despite my normal skincare and visits to a beautician my forehead was getting a couple of fine horizontal and vertical lines and so did my eye area. I kept on using the cream purchased at my beautician but once I received a sample of the ANR version then which was prior to the Synchronized ones. I was simply shocked and amazed how my skin looked and felt after application of just a tiny amount. The lines and dehydration were completely gone and I felt my skin was firmer as well. I never stopped using this product and recommend it to everyone as well as most other EL products, I do believe that especially for the price they make the best skincare. Some creams I find too light for my skin but all of their products are loaded with antioxidants and their antiaging properties are amazing. I do and have used other serums from them as well but I keep coming back to this and never want to be without. I will soon turn 38 and there is not even a hint of a line, dehydration or sagging on my face or eye area anywhere. In fact many have become EL fans thanks to my advice but I always tell them if they were going to spend on one thing then get this serum. Now as to this newest version versus the previous one, I was looking for some improvement in texture, I wanted to see a bit more concentrated version than the previous one and this one is; less watery and feels even more hydrating. There is one thing, however, I have felt others complain about is that they took out retinol. This is a big minus for me as well since retinol is great against aging as well as any potential breakouts, however, I guess their concern is day use but I personally disagree. I would like to see retinol be put back into the product. I have noticed that I do get breakouts a bit more since they took it out. Now they are still very minimal and mainly due to hormones when we all get them but sometimes I find that companies mess up a perfect product. This time fortunately that has not happened though and others will find this a benefit perhaps due to sensitivities. I still very highly recommend this serum and as their makeup expert recommends you can apply a drop or two over makeup on little lines or dehydrated areas throughout the day too. Money best spent. Best thing is that while this product works immediately, long-term benefits are tremendous.
Loved this serum, used the previous version and found this to give the same results but was more expensive. My only gripe is that for such an expensive serum it does not contain any vitamins or antioxidants so I'm not sure what is exactly in this serum but it works wonders. I'm on a hunt for a good antioxidant serum and will probably switch off days using this and something else.
I have used all versions of this serum from time to time. I can't afford it all the time but I allways come back to it. I've loved all versions because they seem to balance my dry/dehydrated/combination skin so that my t-zone appears less oily and the cheeks more supple and moisturized. It simply feels like you're doing something good for your skin.
The texture and feel of this version isn't wildly different from the earlier ones, but appears slightly more viscous than the former ones. I drop it on directly on my face with my head tilded back and with this versions sometimes it won't drop and the fluid forms a long string instead. I also don't notice the usual smell in this one. There's no fragrance in it, but none the less it used to have a characteristic smell that I actually miss a little in this version.
What does differ is that I experience a true improvement of my skins texture and over-all look and feel with this version. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the exact effect it has but it's more significant than the earlier versions. So I'll keep on buying it as long asxI can afford it. The packaging isn't the smartest one out there and since it last for quite some time I suggest you dikute it with a little water (I use Avene's thermal water) when you reach the bottom of the bottle. Since you open the bottle twice day it will evaporate quite a bit.
Worst serum I have ever used!! this really dried out my skin, and made my skin flake around the nose area. I would say it dose calm any slight redness you may have, but i don't like this at all. As soon as i applied it I felt my skin became very dry/tight and i have a combination skin!! I'm so glad I won this via there Facebook page, and didn't purchase this. I was so surprised and disappointed after all the good this iv heard, i just cant believe how drying this serum was, the drying effects of this will only cause wrinkles.
This updated Synchronized Recovery Complex II is more moisturizing than the previous Synchronized Recovery Complex, and that makes it a more moisturizing serum for my dry and sensitive skin. I haven't experienced any irritation.
I don't like the packaging. I would prefer a pump-style bottle.
UPDATE: I have downgraded the lippies on this product, because it seems to have stopped working for me. I am not getting the good results I initially had. Maybe my skin got used to it. I don't know. :( Sad.
Well, I really like this serum, and I definitely notice a difference in my skin when I skip nights using this. I have been using ANR Complex every night for about 6 weeks along with Estee Lauder's Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator - ANR COMPLEX first, followed by Idealist Even Skintone on top. My skin is more luminous and even, pores are noticably smaller, fine lines are lessened, redness and blotchiness gone, and age spots lightened. Even though I use a different moisturizer during the day (Pacifica Dreamy Youth Cream), the effects of these two night-time products lasts throughout the following day.
We went on vacation recently and I got lazy for a few nights and did not apply the ANR & Idealist Even Skintone serums, and after a few days you could really tell a difference in my skin ... my skin did not look as good anymore. It was very noticable (to me at least). So I immediately went back to my nightly routine of using these serums, and within a few days my skin started to improve again. I don't plan on skipping anymore nights! ;)
Worked so well just a couple of days in that I decided to oder a couple more bottles for my mother and I. This version do lack the DNA repair enzyme derived from mustard and to defer from what the previous reviewer said, it also lacks the Tripeptide 32. What they are replaced with though are some intriguing herbal extracts from coneflower and the likes. Results are way more dramatic than anticipated, my face always managed to look serene and calm upon awakening.
Maybe high-tech ingredients are not always the way to go?
I so wanted to believe this was the answer for my sensitive, aging skin. NOT. It feels very tacky and doesn't absorb well, and I ended up with huge cystic acne pimples within 48 hours. If it actually worked well for me (as other people think it has for them), then I'd say the price is reasonable, and the packaging isn't bad. Since EL won't give out samples, I did tell the SA that I would be returning the full size if it didn't work, so I don't feel guilty.
Update: tried EA ceramide capsules and I'm amazed at how good they are for me. Point here being that what works for one person may not work for another and individual experience is the best advice. So please take my review as one person's experience and weigh it with other reviews. And if you find EL doesn't work for you, maybe think about what I'm now using. Will be posting EA review soon.
UPDATE 8/21/13: I now believe I'm extremely sensitive to retinol derivatives and this could be the reason I broke out. However, I didn't like the feeling of this product on my skin, so I wouldn't have repurchased. Am adding a point though to counteract for my sensitivity.
From looking at the posted ingredients there is no retinol in this product. The antioxidants seem ok but how can you rebuild your skin and fight wrinkles, dark spots, ect... I have a nice moisturizer that has all this. When they say advanced night repair that's what I want it to do, REPAIR!
After reading many reviews on ANR (any version), I decided I had to add a bit of info on ANR.
It is a product destined to target prevention and repair of DNA damage. (I will not go into the prospect of how much of this is actually possible.) But keep in mind that nothing prevents DNA damage as effectively as a well formulated broad-spectrum sunscreen (that preferably also contains anti-oxidants.)
ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex II has several excellent ingredients that are said to prevent and/or repair damage to cell DNA. (These ingredients are also present in the Synchronized Recovery Complex, some in ANR Protective Recovery Complex and also in the original Night Repair from 1982.)
Bifida Ferment Lysate is an excellent active for prevention and repair of DNA damage. Lauder uses 12.4% of the active ingredient that contains 50% of Bifida Ferment Lysate. This is really an impressive amount in a cosmetic product! Research in the past 30 years has also backed up its effect.
Tripeptide-32 is said to synchronize the cells to be able to repair damage more efficiently.
Sodium RNA is a good DNA damage preventor.
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is a UVB filter, hence it will prevent damage to DNA caused by UVB rays. (Note the concentration of 0.1% will not be sufficient as a UV-filter.)
Yeast Extract (new active in ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex II along with Hydrolyzed Algin) is said to help synchronize repair mechanism even more effectively than Tripeptide-32 alone. These two ingredients suppose to work in synergy.
There are several excellent and advanced actives that prevent and/or repair damage to DNA.
I wish Lauder has kept the active from ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex, Arabidopsis Thaliana Extract*, an exceptional DNA repair agent with proven activity.
I would have liked very much to see other Lauder owned ingredients like EGT (Ergothioneine)*, Plankton Extract* and Micrococcus Lysate* along with EUK-134 (Ethylbisiminomethylguaiacol Manganese Chloride) and Artemia Extract . All these ingredients are proven to have excellent preventative and/or repairing effect on DNA damage.
*Ingredients developed by AGI Dermatics that is owned by Estée Lauder Co. since 2008.
Not to mention AA2G (Ascorbyl Glucoside) a stabilized and a very effective form of Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin C, would not have harmed a formulation targeted DNA damage, like this, either.
But I guess for $90+, one could not expect the array of all these ingredients!?
This again is the proof of that the cosmetic industry will sell their products that will have low production costs and enough effect to back up their claims versus better products that have much better results but higher production cost.
(Percentage of the ingredients used in ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex II are from the US patent issued in 1982 (for Night Repair), 1991 (for ANR Protective Recovery Complex), 2009, 2010 and 2012 (all for ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex and Synchronized Recovery Complex II.)
