Loved this mascara. Well, for the first few weeks. It was easy to apply and made my lashes look fuller and more defined. However, as the product started to dry a little in the tube, I began to experience some flaking by late afternoon. By evening, there was a lot of mascara dust under my eyes. If I can find it in stock, I'm going back to Jordana's fabulous Best Lash Extreme (black tube, purple writing).
My first review! Woop woop.
I am not typically overwhelmed with the quality of Avon products. I feel like for the price of a lot of Avon products, I can get something from a drug store that I like better with more options. This mascara is the exception! I am in love, holy moley. The formula of this mascara is spot on, not too wet and shiny, not too dry and clumpy, it's right in the middle. If you like to layer, it dries fairly quickly, but your best results will probably come from doing one layer at a time. (Coat right side, then coat left so the right has time to set a tad before layering).
The brush can be just a touch tricky at first and I did poke my eyelids and it wasn't the most pleasant feeling, but it wasn't any worse than any other time I poke my eye (seems to happen to me a lot).
I only use one coat and I have average eyelashes, and no joke, my eyelashes touch my brow bone. The one thing I can suggest is that Avon sells a 99 cent mascara guard that I LOVE to use with this mascara. The little clusters of bristles on the ends are great for the inner eye and the outer region. The last time I wore this mascara I was asked if I was wearing falsies.
The only thing I would change about the whole get up would be how it opens twice, essentially. It has the cover and then the mascara wand inside. The reason I mention this is because it's a small plastic piece that I have lost in the floor or my makeup bag a couple of times.
Color me surprised! Once I got over the steep learning curve (how steep? Try having mascara ON my contact lenses - twice! And smears all over the lid and inner rim. Embarrassing. Thank goodness for baby's cotton buds) - it's wonderful! I'm talking about lush, dark, va-va-voom lashes! Ohmigod!
Another reviewer is right - the whole wand is blocking my view so I kinda had to tilt my head sideways and peer into the mirror just to see what I'm doing. I had to practice and finally got the hang of it after 3 days. That aside, the formula is really excellent - I don't get smears under my eyes after 12 hours, only teeny bit of flakes. I get really black, thick lashes - it beats even my trusty Maybelline Falsies. Seriously, it rocks. And waterproof, but it removes easily with my makeup remover. That said, it is a bit clumpy. It's more apparent on my lower lashes - unless I haven't found the technique yet.
Definitely will buy again.
I absolutely love this Mascara and think its design is genius. It is different and like anything different, may take some getting used to. I find it lifts, curls and volumises every lash I have. If I do miss any lashes(which has been very rare with this mascara), the comb design makes it easy to grab just those particular ones. There has been no clumping what so ever and I've had it for over 3 months. It lasts all day and doesn't come off until I take it off. It does come off easily with a good eye makeup remover. I've even been able to clean the comb without making any difference to the product. I've now got one in my bag, car and make-up bag and wouldn't be without it. I have to say it is somewhat cheaper than some high end brands and does exactly what it intends to for me. My girl who is just experimenting has tried it and loves it too. I recommend giving it a go.
There are upsides and down sides to this product, so to make it easy-
-Excellent jet black colour
-Once used to it, application really is SO easy and you can to every single little lash
-Makes lashes really long, a bit thicker, but NO clumping whatsoever
- Flakes all over my glasses; this is the reason I won't repurchase
That's it, there's really only one con, but for me flaking is a deal breaker, and it's a shame because in every other aspect this is a great mascara, maybe it won't flake on you and to be fair at this price point it's worth giving it a go.
My only other complaint is that if you don't remove your makeup before you have a shower and this mascara runs (which it does the second water hits it) it stings like mad! I've never had a mascara sting when it's gone in my eye before, which not surprisingly I do manage to jab myself in the eyeball every now again.
Tl;DR: For the price, just try it there's nothing to lose.
One of the worst mascaras I have ever tried. I tried using it several times before reviewing. Never once did it make my lashes look long and the wand is simply a joke. I applaud Avon for trying something different. I hate it didn't work though.
I've tried just about everything out there and this is at the bottom. it's horrible! I'm returning it. Thin, watery nasty messy and gross.
I bought my second tube (?) of this mascara recently. It is a total gimmick, but the gimmick actually performs! I find it really easy to use and it makes my eyelashes nice and big! I have pretty curly lashes that I have never had a problem with going flat so I can't attest to this mascaras performance, but it really give you a nice black, separated lashes. It add lots of length and a bit of volume. I really like this mascara and will probably buy it again, as long as it stays around. I am kind of hoping other mascara companies, such as my mascara go-to Maybelline, will make dupes of this. I think this is a good mascara. It could be cheaper, but I really enjoy it. My only complaint is that the cap falls off a lot and I think it has dried out the mascara a bit because I'm sure I don't click the wand back in perfectly each time I use it. I'm a sucker for a gimmick and am usually disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. :)
Like everybody else, I wanted to try this because of the unique brush and innovative shape. Always exciting when something really new and different comes along!
I knew it would require an adjustment from my regular handling of mascara, but was I surprised at just how frustrating that would be! First, this container? tube? not even sure how to describe it, is confusing as to how it even opens in the first place! I has to study the instructions for a while before it even made sense to me! You basically pull the cap off (after you figure out which end is which) then you "wiggle" the paintbrush-style applicator from side to side until it "pops" out. Then the fun begins!!!
When you go to apply this it is VERY awkward since this wide, flat brush totally BLOCKS your whole eye from seeing what you're doing! You can pivot the brush to go to different angles, but it doesnt make much difference, your view is still blocked! I tried to work through this but it was so frustrating I gave up after trying for several days to work with it.
If the results were worth the trouble ,I would have stayed with it, but I found that the brush (which is spiky, rubber bristles) was always gloppy and messy and never applied the mascara evenly on my lashes.
I really wanted to like this because it looked so cool and innovative, but it just was a frustrating mess!
Like the mascara (3 or even 4 stars) hate the gimicky, bulky brush.
The handle is too short and the "paint brush like" brush is too bluky and not fun to control.
Works OK for upper lashes - but "fuggedaboutit" on the lowers.
To use the product I just stick a spoolie in the tube (I like a thin spoolie so much better - or even an angled spoolie if you can find them.)
What a frikkin' mess.
Sorry - waste of $10.
