This product though. THE TASTE. IT'S HORRIBLE.
I'm not kidding. I swiped this on my lips, and besides the color Luna looking straight up orange on me, I could feel the perfume-like, artificial smell in the back of my throat. Now, maybe I'm very sensitive, but I simply can't stand it. The packaging is gorgeous, the British name is awesome (I don't know why they changed it for us Americans - I'm vaguely offended), and the shade selection is nice. The color pay off is nice, and it sits on my lips well. BUT GOD THAT SMELL. I've noticed many of these lip lacquer/liquid lipstick products have similar smells. and I can't understand why. This smell translates as a horrible taste that actually makes my throat feel dry. Maybe that's an allergy? Either way, I've read many reviews that claimed the same aversion to varying degrees, so I might just be an extreme case. That being said, I simply can not recommend these. At all.
Nice colors but HORRIBLE FORMULA! So hard to apply, STINKS really bad and looks even worst. This is the worst lip gloss I ever had. It's going back to the store.
I got Luna and Stellar - I like the color of both, specially Stellar but the smell.. and application.. No way!
It's not a lip gloss, it's a big joke.
Light Year is my go-to nude lip color. I have really pigmented lips, and it is a perfect brownish-nude on me. I've tried tons of nude lip colors with no luck; most of them end up too pale or pasty-looking on me. I gave Light Year a shot because it wasn't too pale, and the glossy texture wouldn't end up dry and gunky on my lips.
The gloss itself is more of a liquid lipstick. It gives great coverage and the colors are extremely pigmented. I haven't tried pairing it with a liner, but I don't think it's necessary to anyway. I've tried Celestial (too pink for me) and Galaxy (too purple for me/didn't like the hint of glitter) and found that the texture and color payoff were excellent for those, as well.
I can't say enough good things about Light Year...it's my HG nude lippy! I'm almost done with my tube and will definitely repurchase this color.
PRICE: I paid $5.89 at Ulta, good price for the product, definitely worth it and I'm going to look for more colors for sure!
PACKAGING: I like the angular-round shaped tube and the fact that's it's got the color of the product on the outside, and they do match, so it's easy to tell what color you want. The doe foot applicator is really great, I didn't like how big it was at first, I prefer small wands for more prescision, but the middle part has like a hole and if you need more product, it pools in there, so you don't have to double dip.
COLOR: I got Comet which on my (NC35 light medium yellow-olive undertones) skintone is a medium mavue with no shimmer, that has a certain warmth to it, ti's not a cool mave, I love this shade.
TEXTURE: Very pigmented! Very lightweight, I expected this to be thicker formula since it's so pigmented, but it's smooth.
LONGEVITY: This does bleed, it stayed on my lips with only foundation underneath I'd say about 3 hours before bleeding/needing re-application. Not bad a for a lip lacquer. It stays shinny and doesn't 'set.'
SCENT: I hate the scent. Minus one lippie for that, to me it smells like...cleaning supplies? It's got a lemony citrusy scent. It doesn't last more than 2 minutes on the lips, but WHY Rimmel.
Overall I definitely recommend these and I will go out and get more colors, but the scent really makes me cringe a little.
#400 Big Bang is the color I purchased. This is a very intense retro red lip lacquer that must be applied within a liner or else you will see some product bleeding. I didn't need another red lip product but I had to have this as it coordinates perfectly with my Sally Hansen Red My Lips polish. Yes, both DS finds and I'm very happy to say so. I didn't need another red nail polish either. This color looks far more expensive than what I paid and this looks great over my KA Poppia l/s. I didn't find this difficult or messy to apply and I love the applicator.
My gripes are limited to the flavor/scent, while subtle, bothersome to me. Lack of staying power I've experienced from other brands of liquid lipsticks ( I love KA) and my experience with a bit of bleeding/feathering. I suspect I can remedy that with a nude liner and foundation/powder.
Beyond this, I'm buying other colors.
This is a beautiful liquid lipstick. I have the color 401 Aurora, which is a red-tinged coral. It leans more pink than orange.
Usually I HATE liquid lipsticks. The applicators are always messy to use and I can never get a clean line. However, the applicator on this product is perfect. Although a lot of product gets on the applicator when you pull it out, wiping off the product gives the ultimate control. I can get a precise line with this applicator, almost a better line than what I can get with a lip brush!
This smells like fruit punch. I like it! This feels very comfortable on my lips. I hardly feel it, unless I smoosh my lips around. The formula is thin but pigmented.
The wear on this is okay, as to why it is getting three lippies. It remains shiny after application, which is fine, but I wish that it dried down a bit. After an hour, the color from the inner corners of my lips was gone. After two hours, I noticed that the color had faded. It wasn't bad, but it was enough for me to have to reapply. Eating or drinking didn't do a terrible job at taking the color off, but I still had to reapply.
Although the color is pretty and the finish is nice, I won't opt for this for long days. The formula is not what I need.
I have this in 101 celestial and it's a lovely everyday shade, a bit too pink to be a MLBB. It's smooth, pigmented, and not heavy! I can feel it on my lips, but not in a bad/uncomfortable way. It lasts about 5 hours on me. By the five hour mark it's looking faded and not glossy but more velvety. Also i'v found the longer I wear it, the most tacky it feels. But it's not uncomfortable. It's not drying or hydrating. I think its a great product for the price!
Love, love, love this lip lacquer. I have Apocalyptic which is a bright pink/fushia shade. This is not a lip gloss. This is a lip lacquer or liquid lipstick. It is intensely pigmented and super shiny and brightens up my medium toned skin and makes my wimpy lips look big and full. It wears a long time and even after the initial luster wears off after a while, you're still left with a gorgeous pink stain on your lips. I want to try the other colors. You have to get this!
I love these lip lacquers. I own half the colors and if they were to come out with more or limited edition ones I would totally look into getting them.
The price isn't $0.99 but I get them for $5 (sometimes $4 with a sale) and they work better than some $30+ lipsticks I have bought.
The packaging is really unique and slightly edgy. There is a window right below the wiper that shows if the gloss has been pulled out and tested. This is ingenious and every lipgloss tube should have this feature.
The scent is the basic Rimmel scent that can be annoying for some but doesn't last long on me.
The colors are intense and opaque. These lip lacquers are loaded with pigment but feel incredibly light weight. I forget that I even have them on.
The applicator has a divet in the center of the foot to hold excess color and give better control when applying. I never have to re-dip the applicator to get more product.
Once the lacquer sets, it stays put for the most part. There will be some transferring but your lips will still look amazing.
I really can't recommend these enough. If you're in the market for an opaque, long lasting and lightweight lip color then you have to check these out.
Wow. This product impressed me. I knew it had rave reviews, and of course, some not-so-rave reviews. But still, wow.
When I was at the drugstore, I saw the display for these lip lacquers. It was almost completely empty. The only colours there were several nude/beige colours, and there was one bright pink. I bought the pink, though I normally wear very dark lip colours.
The colour is called Apocoliptic, and when I put it on, I loved it immediately. It is a very bright pink and it flatters my (very pale, cool-toned) skin tone. This is not at all a lip gloss. I repeat--this is not a lip gloss. The colour goes on opaque in just one swipe.
The applicator is very easy to work with, I love it. It has a little dip in it, to hold more product so that you don't have to keep dipping the wand back into the tube.
It is not sticky. It feels rather velvetly, though it's not matte--it dries, but there is shine to it. The scent is somewhat "fruity", which I don't at all mind, as it's faint and fades away once you apply the product, but this might bother others.
This is not a lip stain, it wears well, but don't expect more than two to three hours out of it, less if you're eating and/or drinking.
So, to sum it up, I love this product, I will repurchase, and I highly recommend it.
