Wonderful product formula wise... it feels really nice on lips, applies smoothly, isn't overly dry or even too creamy... very lightweight. Dries down to a semi-matte finish. Super cheap (although the downside to that is that the packaging looks rather cheap as well... I usually don't say much about packaging in reviews because as long as it is functional and what is on the inside works well I tend not to care but this tube seriously reminds me of the super crappy $1 off brands your great aunt bought you for Christmas because she knew you liked makeup).
Besides the packaging being an issue the next issue is the colors... there are so few! In the US we get like 3. Why isn't Essence taking advantage of making a fantastic formula and making more? I don't get it. So the limited color selection meant I choose the berry shade, which looked more like a cool red in the store. Got it home...and it is not. It is a rather bright magenta on my lips. It isn't a bad color on me but it is just not what I expected/wanted.
Non drying... the wear on these are okay for not being a true matte product. I would really love if Essence made more shades because I would like to have more of these in more wearable shades... otherwise it is just a good idea gone to waste.
IT IS. AMAZING.
I require more colours.
These are totally fantastic! I have two and really love them! I actually like them way better than the Lime Crime Velvetines, which are a super similar product.
These are like a liquid matte lipstick, which last forever and go on smoothly and cleanly. They are highly pigmented and are bright! I find them to be actually a demi-matte rather than a true matte, but if you blot after application, they are matte. As the name says, they are very creamy, too.
The price is incredibly low and the quality is incredibly high. You apply with a doe foot applicator and the smell is a strong bakery/vanilla which I enjoy and find pleasant. The smell does fade and I don't find there to be any taste at all.
I really love these and highly recommend them if you are looking for an inexpensive matte lip color that is easy to apply and lasts a long time. Very impressive! If you are wondering about Lime Crime Velvetines but don't want to invest in the high price tag, give these a try. The colors are different but the idea is the same and I find the Essence to be way better!
Saw this on the essence shelf while getting the All About Matt powder. I have no red lip products, so I just bought this lip cream in Silky Red. The colour is an orange based red and it'll look very pretty on some skin tones. The staying power is really good. I'm looking to buy the other shades next time I go to shoppers.
I got this in the form of red and WOW! The staying power is really good but it tends to flake up after a while. I use a lip balm and scrub my lips so it can look smooth! I used to use it every day till i realized that its a little to strong for the day so i use it at night for a girls night out!!
Defiantly gonna get other colors!
Los adoro! aunque los colores oscuros (fucsia y rojo) tienen mejor duración :)
Love love love. I have velvet rose and smooth berry. I opted out of silly red since its an orange based red. I prefer blue based reds. The staying power is out of this world on these things. Colors are pretty. Looks and goes one without changing tone. Every one should be trying essence. The prices just can't be beat. I've added a clear gloss to my stay mattes and it did not affect its staying power. The gloss did wear off obvi but then it's back to the matte look. Love
I have all three that are in Canada. We don't have the shade "Soft Nude". I've been wanting this ever since I saw this on an essence website that was based on a different country and I wanted it so bad. It was like a couple months ago. These just came out in Canada a week ago haha. I have all 3 colours already! OBSESSED! Best matte lip colours in the world. They are so pigmented and to sheer it out would still be as pigmented as essence lipsticks. The texture is smooth and glides onto the lips nicely. At first it feels moisturizing and then it sucks all the moisture out of your lips haha. They stay longer than any lip product I've tried. I would pay dior or chanel prices for these amazing babies but they're only $2.99 in Canada and the US. These last AT LEAST 12 hours and I accidentally slept in these. These smell like vanilla and I love vanilla but this is too overwhelming. These are a little hard to use because if you wipe any thats not in your lip line off you cant use the finger again or it will get everywhere! Silky red is a beautiful orange-toned red. It's one of the only orange-toned red I love. Smooth berry is a dark hot pink. It's not a berry. It's definitely a darker hot pink. My favourite is velvet rose. I liked it when I searched it in stores but I thought I would like the bright colours more and although I love the bright colours this is beautiful. Swatched, this is light muted rosy pink. On the lips in different lightings it can look as it is swatches, it can look like the OCC Lip Tar in charm and it can even look like a soft pink. It's so gorgeous. These are smooth. More pigmented than even Maybelline vivids lipsticks. And they last forever! Even though they're super messy they're amazing.
I bought two of these in Velvet Rose and Silly Red. I am a fan of matte lip creams and it seems that this concept (matte lip product in a cream form) is not yet widely available among all ds brands. I've tried NYX's matte creams, but I am not really a fan of their shade range. I think these matte creams are really good. They provide very good opaque coverage and I think the vanilla scent is nice. The price is ridiculously cheap at $2.99cdn and I think the quality is definitely comparable to high end. The only caveat is that these creams completely suck the moisture out of my lips once I take off the product (this is the reason for my 4/5 rating). So, I have remedied this by putting on a thin layer of lip balm prior to applying the cream and this solves the problem of dried out lips. As for the shades, Silly Red is a perfect red for me. I have a warm complexion and this shade has a touch of warmth that allows it to suit me perfectly. It's like a Marilyn Monroe red. I love it! Velvet Rose is a warm light rose shade. It's great for an everyday look. To make this more wearable for my bronzy mocha complexion, I use a medium chocolate brown lipliner to line and then blend it into the shade. This changes the shade to a light nude rose. Both shades are a fabulous buy!
Not only do I think a high-end brand could sell this in a posher packaging and with a more sophisticated scent, I actually strongly suspect it's already happening (Guerlain, dear, are you listening?) After all, neither cheap nor expensive brands really make their products, they order them from the same suppliers.
Anyway, the ditzy smell of mock vanilla ice cream and the cheap-looking tube still don't change the fact that this stuff is goood. It goes on smooth and even, is surprisingly easy to work with, the finish is sort of creamy-matte, and it lasts and lasts. Yes, it does transfer on people and other objects you touch with your mouth, but your lips will still look nice. Unless you smear it around.
Doesn't make my lips dry either. Colour range sucks though - only four shades, and the two lighter ones are shite.
