I got this in my Lash Stash, so this is technically a review of the mini, but I've been using it for a few weeks now and I'm underimpressed for one reason only. The brush. The formula is the same or identical to the original Smoky Lash, which is awesome. But the brush is annoying. All the product globs at the tip so your inner lashes end up getting the most product when they should be getting the least. The outer corner where you want the "flare" gets almost no product on it.
The formula doesn't clump and is very black, and is very good at separating. This is why I loved original Smoky Lash. But the brush is not good at depositing product. I use my left hand to apply my left hand mascara, so it has the brush in the right orientation, but if you're a girl that uses your right hand and "flips" your hand, the brush will be oriented the wrong way and then the brush loses its niche anyway (which doesn't work well). Wayne Goss even made a video about how this is "the worst mascara ever"-I think that's overstating it, but he mentions how the brush is awkward.
I will use this sample up since I like the formula but the brush irritates me. I would say purchase regular Smoky Lash instead.
I really like this mascara, as same with the smokey lash one also, This is a nice formula to it, it may have the same brush as rimmel, and laroc but this one is really nice, it really gives me length, volume and seperation, you have to wipe the wand down first then slowly zig zag the brush at the roots then slowly swipe it upwards. it is really dark color and it really does lengthen my lashs and make them dark what I love in a mascara now it does curl the lashs and holds up all day. I have not noticed any flaking nor does it transfer. I don't know why other people complain maybe it is the way they are applying it. but then again everyone's lashs are different from others. some like wet formula's where I love the dryer mascara's as I feel it holds curl better, due to the fact I don't like waterproof mascara's as it damages lashs.
Well, this mascara is almost an identical (but more expensive) version of the Rimmel London Extra Lash Wow mascara. I got a tinier, sample version after redeeming my points at Sephora. The reason why I gave this 2 stars is because it never smudged on me! So, I guess that's a plus? I don't know. But it did nothing for my lashes. No volume, no length, nothing! Also, it's expensive! I know it's high-end, but still. If it does nothing for my lashes, it's not worth it at all. It's $24! Good thing I only got a sample.
I don't understand the poor reviews on this product...perhaps the mini sample size doesn't meet full-size standards. I tried this in Sephora today, and the second I did I knew I had to have it. Let me say, I'm an absolute mascara snob. I rarely stick with one and I have clumpophobia, so I often splurge on really nice ones and end up being disappointed by one thing or another. This mascara TRULY IS CLUMP FREE! After two or three coats, my lashes looked as though they were a doll's, or fake! And because it's Make Up For Ever, I know I can count on its staying power. This mascara is certainly a keeper. Give it a chance!
Bought this a week ago to replace my benefit They're real mascara and I didnt like the wand. The product is all at the tip of the wand and im not a big fan of that. The wans goes from small to large and that was really hard to use as well. I dont think it did anything for volume it gave a little length but not too much
I got a sample of this with my order on sephora.com. i had high hopes for this since its pretty pricey. I wanted to like this, but i just can't work with it
-gives some volume
-doesn't hold a curl
The brush is oddly shaped and it makes a mess all over my eye. i can coat my lower lashes without giving myself raccoon eyes. i will not purchase the pull size version
This mascara is clumpy, smudges like crazy (it was down on the center of my cheeks), not black enough, and the brush is too big so its hard to get my lashes evenly coated.
I also got this as a 100 point perk at Sephora. I'm in love. I've never used a Make Up For Ever mascara before. The shape of the wand is perfect for getting the whole lash, the consistency is on the dryer side, so if you like wetter mascaras, this one might not be for you, it's also not super volumizing, but very lengthening.
I put this on this morning for the first time, my lashes are super long, and the tapered brush gives a more "natural" look (longer on the outside, shorter towards the tear duct). 12 hours later it looks great, holding the curl perfectly and it's so soft! I don't think I've ever had a mascara that left my lashes so soft!
Other mascaras I love are: Covergirl Clump Crusher, benefit They're Real, Urban Decay Super Curl.
