Me: NC20, dry skin, some redness in cheeks and nose, mildly sensitive skin (esp. on cheeks)
SHORT REVIEW: Great foundation for someone wanting FULL coverage IF you can find a color match (good luck!).
Coverage: This is true FULL coverage. Much fuller than I expected - I know the name says full but I didn't believe it. I can sheer it out to about medium coverage but still sometimes get too much between eyebrows and it can look cakey. It is thick and VERY pigmented and somewhat tricky to work with. Best method I've found is using fingers then finish with beauty blender. After application because it is full coverage, sometimes I look too "all one color" and "one note" for my preference, and I *have* to highlight and contour to give myself some dimension. There is definitely some green in the product to help cancel redness which is a HUGE plus.
Finish: I would call this a soft matte finish but I do set it *lightly* with powder. Would be dewier without the powder. Looks dewier throughout day as powder wear off and oil comes through - which is fine with me.
Color match: I am NC20. The light is a *little* too dark for me. I'm afraid the "fair" shade will be too cool though. Looks OK on my face but definately the dreaded line where face meets neck. I normally wouldn't "knock" a product for not having "my" color but since this is a full coverage product - color match is essential. Four colors is just too limited. I'm writing this review at the very end of winter at my "peak paleness". I'm hoping this will look better this summer.
Lasts?: Unlike several reviewers here, I was actually impressed with the staying power. I would say 8-10 hours without primer. I do have dry skin though and products tend to wear better on me - I don't need primer.
Hydration: I have DRY skin. Usually lack of hydration and/or emphasizing flaziness is my #1 reason for me nixing a product. I found this with a decent level of hydration. I'm a little drier on my chin lately so I put a little moisturizer under that area. Really pleasantly surprised! Some days by the VERY end of the day, I do FEEL a bit dry but don't look it. This is peak of winter/dryness though.
Irritation/Scent: I was VERY nervous about the potentially irritating citrus oils in this product. Beautypedia (who I take with grain of salt) slammed this product with a "poor" rating. I have experienced NO sensitivity/irritation. I'm not overly fond of the scent but it goes away very quickly - by the time I have completed my m/u. I have to agree with other review that I can't understand what purpose these ingredients serve in this product marketed to sensitive skin women??? Uber sensitive women beware!
Packaging: I think a pump on a tube is STUPID! Either give me a tube so I can squeeze out every drop or give me a pump on a bottle so I can then turn bottle upside down, remove pump to get every last drop.
Price: Not bad IMO at all since it is an "all-in-one type product. IT site has frequent sales and promotions (sign up for emails). Correction to another review... this tube is 1.08 NOT 1.8 fl oz. Big difference there!
Repurchase??? I'm not sure... I was wanting an all-in one product for quick days and casual days. This IS a great all-in-one product (even has physical s/s which I LOVE!) but... it ISN'T casual since it's full coverage and it really ISN'T quick since I feel the need to highlight and contour to add some dimension to it. I feel like my PC All Bases Covered looks better on me (more skin-like and MUCH better color match) than this CC cream - and is about half the price. I do think this CC has slightly better longevity and isn't quite as moisturizing which could be a plus this summer. So I am going to hang on to this until summer and see how it performs in high humidity!
My primary motivation for trying this product is the fabulous physical sunscreen, which is so hard to find in a quality, makeup-friendly formula that doesn't clog pores or pill, etc.. At 50 plus, thisis a TOP priority for me now to avoid dark spots. On that front, this is great. I have been using a chemical sunscreen and either concealer only or Laura Mercier silk creme or Cover FX foundations. I am not normally a wearer of TM, BB, or CC creams because the coverage is worthless and I am very particular about what I put on my face ingredient wise and they just contain too much crap, IMHO. My main coverage needs are for mild redness, otherwise good skin. If it can't cover redness (most products don't), I don't use it.
Surprisingly good coverage (for a couple of hours), decent coverage of redness
When it fades, it does so evenly and does not look splotchy
Non-irritating on initial use (but I have not used long-term-see below)
No limonene, linalool or synthetic fragrances (common irritants/sensitizers)
Does not emphasize dry patches, pores, or wrinkles, even in nose creases, etc.
Blends in pretty well, even if not a perfect color match
Looks like skin
NOT greasy-looking (HUGE plus)
Pump on end of tube
Faded quickly (but almost everything does on me)
--- The directions say to re-apply every 2 hours, which is NOT normally necessary with a physical sunscreen (as opposed to chemical sunscreens which are short-acting). That is about how long it took to fade on me and for some redness to become visible. I expected better longevity. If you put any kind of makeup on over it, you can't reapply, so the directions to re-apply make no sense to me. Most people would apply powder or blush or at concealer, etc. I think if you plan to wear this more than a couple of hours, it would be necessary to apply a powder foundation over or something like that to get coverage for a full day. I guess you could apply regular liquid foundation afterwards before other makeup also. I thought the whole marketing point of this product was to eliminate the need for multiple products, however, so maybe it is overhyped in that regard.
WAY TOO YELLOW and DARK compared to their concealers
-- I applied Light on one side of my face and Medium on the other, both are EXTREMELY yellow and dark compared to the concealers by this company, a heads up there if you use those. Both blended out well. The formula is somewhat forgiving but these would be more universally flattering tones if they were a little less yellow. I think this company has overcompensated for some negative feedback about needing warmer tones and now has gone way overboard in the warmth department with their new products. I may try the "Fair" which looks too light for me but is less yellow.
Small color range.
Does not last.
Contains aluminum hydroxide, which I prefer to avoid, although I understand its purpose.
Contains potential sensitizers/irritants - citrus oils, bergamot, and eucalyptus which could cause irritation. The bergamot and eucalyptus in particular seem unnecessary and would be better removed. The citrus may have some preservative effect, not sure if that is its intended purpose. Find less irritating alternatives, companies! Too many people have problems with these. Especially weird for a line formulated by a woman with severe rosacea! HELLO!?!!!!!!
Tube does not stand up, would prefer a stand up pump container that do not have to hold (for hygienic reasons).
Conclusion: For me, most foundations, BB, CC etc fade after a few hours and make me look WORSE than if I wore nothing. This at least fades evenly, which is HUGE. I did not look like total crap when it started to fade. However, I still think just plain sunscreen and concealer ends up looking better after a few hours on me anyway. I may try this in the "Fair" with my normal foundation over it and see how well it lasts. If you have to put a bunch of crap under and/or over it, I think it defeats the marketed purpose of the product. . . . . I am also iffy about using something with eucalyptus on a daily basis. On second thought, I think I will pass and look for something without essential oils.
As someone who is extremely acne-prone, I waited two weeks to write this review. Now I can confidently say...Holy Cow!!!! Not only have I not broken out from this but also my skin has never looked better without makeup. Ever! It gives my 33 year-old skin a healthy glow without being obnoxiously shiny and actually makes me look younger *gasp!*
If I had to give it a con, I would say that it doesn't last a super long time (maybe 6-7 hours) but now that my skin has improved so much, I am not self-conscious when it starts to wear off. Also, I mix it with the smallest amount of my favorite mattifying foundation, which helps give it a little more mileage.
Overall, I cant say enough. If you are on the fence, hurry up and hop over, and run to the nearest Ulta or sephora!!
I have tried so many BB and CC creams, thinking it would be so nice to use something that is a "two or three in one" product. This one claims to do everything!
I gave it a go for three weeks. Sometimes over moisturizer, sometimes over a light sunscreen, and sometimes I just mixed it.
1. Great sun protection. Not really needed now in the Pacific Northwest!
2. Good color for me (fair).
3. Appropriate amount of product for the price.
4. Some really nice ingredients.
5. Usually looked good on my skin.
1. Always made my face uncomfortable; a little dry, a little "itchy." Really felt "stingy" after a workout.
2. Sometimes looked too heavy, even though I always used just half a pump.
3. Might have caused a small breakout. Soooo many ingredients, who knows?
No more BB or CC for me.
That said, I think It Cosmetics is a company that deserves credit for addressing needs of women over 30.
I was hanging around the it Cosmetics area at Ulta waiting for my daughter to finish playing with the NYX products. A SA walked up to me and asked if she could put some of this and the concealer on me and I said, what the heck, sure! She did half my face to show me what I looked like (and I mistakenly thought I looked pretty good before she put the products on!) and the CC cream and concealers looked SO good on me! The other side of my face looked blah, so I had her hurry up and make up both sides. I purchased both, along with a ylbb lip pencil, then crossed my fingers I could replicate it at home. Yep, totally doable. I have this in medium and it's a great match for me, I'm a NC20. I love the dispenser, a little does go a long ways, and I while I think spf50 is a bit of overkill, I'm happy whenever I can find a product higher than spf20.
Such a near miss! It's everything I wanted in a BB cream: non-chemical sunscreen, buildable coverage, lovely finish, BUT, while the Fair shade was a good match in terms of paleness, it was much too yellow for me. (Dk. brown hair, blue eyes, NW15-ish skin)
I do like this CC a lot, however if you are someone with oily skin make sure to use an oil-contorling primer or serum underneath this product.
I use Paula's Choice Hydralight lotion on my T-zone and Clinique moisture surge gel on the rest of my face and they seem to prime my skin for the application of this CC cream.
This product is thick and I find that it is easier to apply it over a lighter moisturizer or a serum. It goes on with a soft matte finish but does turn slightly dewy by mid-day. I have to blot once during the day and powder my T-zone with MAC's blot powder and my skin looks flawless.
This product does have oils in it but they do not seem to clog my pores.
I was really hoping this would be my HG:( I have combination skin and within two hours my t-zone was oily while I was in my house and it's Winter here in Southern California where it's sunny most of the time. I'm also using Retin-A which has left me a little dry so I thought this was perfect for me, but my t-zone looks like an oil well. I can't imagine what it would look like if I stepped outside into the warm sun all day. Such a disappointment. Good thing the It Celebration foundation works great!
This is my first cc cream & I have been using it for 4 months. It has not met my expectations of perfect skin :-), but it's not bad.
First the pros:
-The packaging is great - a tube with a pump
-Even though it's expensive ( around $40) a tiny amount goes a long way. After 4 months of daily use, I still have half of the tube left.
- I personally like the smell. It's hard to identify, but maybe mint with a hint of orange
- When first applied it looks wonderful & it wears well in low humidity
- It can be applied lightly for sheer coverage & built up easily for medium coverage
Now the bad:
- Even with a primer, it's gets a weird feel and look after 6-7 hours on a mildly warm & humid day. My skin is oily, so this maybe the problem, but my face starts to feel very dewy (not oily) and the makeup looks like it is beginning to separate, leaving some spots powdery & some shiny.
-After a few hours, it settles into my lines & pores
- Even though I love the pump tube, one pump dispenses way too much product. I have to be careful & barely press the pump
-Color correction for me, only lasted a few hours
- I have not noticed any improvement in my skin
I think I expected way too much out of this, and maybe I don't really understand what a cc cream is meant to do, but I don't believe it met it's advertised claims. After I finish this tube, I will try to find something else or return to Exuviance's foundation. I am really disappointed that I didn't love this.
I have this CC Cream in fair and it is a good match for a MAC NW15. The cream has fairly good coverage - it definitely evens out my skin tone (I have a lot of red areas that need some major toning down. It does not cover everything that I need to have covered - like age spots. If I feel like getting the age spots out, I use a little concealer.
Overall this has been a good to excellent product for me. I get a good amount of coverage. It does hydrate my skin. It lasts all day (if I set with powder). Finally it gives my skin a nice looking glow - not overly dewy, but nice healthy looking skin.
If you are scent sensitive, this product has a scent. It does not smell bad to me, and the scent does not last. It smells kind of like medicine.
