Price is steep but works great. My sponge and all my brushes are squeaky clean.
Love it! Well, except for the smell.
First, let's start with the bad thing:
This smells like my grandmother did. It might bring up some fond memories or something, but I didn't like it.
Now, the good stuff:
The smell is absolutely tolerable, especially considering how well this cleans my makeup brushes and the BeautyBlender sponge, and how fast.
It's really amazing.
They should have this come with the kit, not the liquid one. It's much better. You just roll it around in it, wash it, squeeze — clean.
Completely clean. Like magic! Stinky, grandmother-smelling magic!
If you have a beautyblender you must get it! I haven't tried their liquid cleanser but this solid one beats any of the cleansers I have tried so far on my beautyblender. Even if I am lazy and don't wash it for a couple of days (using my EL double-wear light, which is hard to wash out) it's a matter of 1 minute to make my beautyblender look brand new (okay, nearly brand new but without stains). People who don't like lavender will definitely dislike the scent but I love it, so no problem there! It's going to last a very long time, so I can't complain about the price either. Will absolutely buy it again!
I love this brush/beautyblender cleanser. Before I would clean my brushes mixing olive oil and dish soap, but this makes it's 10 times faster and easier. Just wet your brush, wet the soap, rub rub rub, rinse and let dry and I've got a clean brush in seconds. I have a ton of brushes that need cleaning and this makes it so easy. It even got out powder clumps from my kabuki brush that are hard to get out. I definitely cannot live without this.
Yes it works !...oh the price : (
Will I purchase again...nope. It does get your sponges super clean but I get through it to fast to justify the price and for me it is not easy accessible. So the search continues for that great brush and sponge cleaner that is not all toxic, full of alcohol and drying to my Hakuhodo brushes which you know are way too pricey to be using just any cleaner.
One of my favorite hobbies is researching product ingredients to find or create dupes of overpriced cosmetics. I tried this with the beautyblender solid cleanser, and what I discovered is that it is essentially shaving soap. You know, the kind fancy men and grandpas use with a brush. Here's an ingredient comparison:
Beautyblender solid, 1 oz, $16.50
Sodium Palmate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Water, Glycerin, Coconut acid, Titanium Dioxide, Palmitic Acid, fragrance, Sodium Chloride, tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder.
Herban Cowboy Shave Soap, 2.9 oz, $3.80 on iherb.com:
Sodium Palmate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Water, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance, Rosmarinus Officinalis (rosemary) Leaf Extract, Iron Oxides.
I bought the Herban Cowboy shave soap, and it works fine. I actually store it in my beautyblender container, where it's easy to access and is able to air dry after use (I store the sponge elsewhere).
The Herban Cowboy soap does smell like a dude, that's the only downside. It's your typical cologne-y, after shave-y fragrance. Not bad, just masculine. Not the lavender of the BB Solid.
If you want a shave soap that has a lavender scent, check out Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender Shaving Cream Bowl, 5.3 oz. for $15.95. About the same price as the beautyblender, but FIVE TIMES larger. I haven't purchased this one yet because the Herban was just too good a price to pass up and I don't expect to ever use it all up. I might order the Old Bond, though, just for the fragrance.
Here are its ingredients: Aqua, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Acid, Glycerin, Lavandul Angustifolia, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, CI 17200, CI 42090
Not as similar to the BB as the Herban Cowboy, but it might work equally well.
Does this work? Yes. Is it worth the money? No. I have found that Dr. Bronner's works just as well at the fraction of the price.
I bought Beauty Blender Pure Kit that includes white Beauty Blender for sensitive skin, Blender cleanser solid and the Air.Port Mesh bag. Money wise is to buy all these products as a kit rather than separately, it becomes a bit cheaper.
As for a Blender Cleanser solid, it cleans very well, but not 100% perfect. I even left the sponge for some time with the cleanser’s lather on, hoping it will absorb it better...but no, it worked the same, my sponge still had foundation stains on one side. Probably I should try to wash it with a normal gentle soap and compare the results. If they are the same, I would never spend 17 euro for a tiny piece of solid cleanser again.
They say it has a soothing lavender fragrance... the first time I smelled it I could not stop sneezing. I was really afraid that I might be allergic to it. But thankfully, I did not have any allergy. The scent reminds me more of a white Marseille soap, rather than anything of lavender.
But what I like about this cleanser is the cute and hygienic packaging, it is very well-thought of. And secondly, I have to admit it is really a good choice for travelling, solid and compact.
I held off on buying the official beauty blender cleaner for a long time because I was convinced I could find something else that would keep my sponge clean for cheaper. After trying a bunch of different things (regular soap, face wash, baby shampoo, brush cleaner, etc), I broke down and bought the cleanser. I was looking for the liquid cleanser, but this is the only one they had at my sephora, so I decided to give it a shot. I actually can't believe how well it works ... the foundation stains on my sponge pretty much disappeared after one use, and it actually felt clean
- lathers nicely
- very travel friendly
- does an amazing job at cleaning the beauty blender
- quick, easy, and mess free to use
- expensive for a simple cleanser
- first few times you use it, also see some of the pink colouring from the sponge wash out in the dirty water
Overall, I would recommend this in a heartbeat. It makes my sponge look and feel cleaner than any other cleanser i've tried, and it's gentle on the sponge.
I got this with the Beautyblender Pure travel pack (really wanted that Air.port travel case) and I like it a lot more than the regular liquid cleanser. Its compact and doesn't take up much room and you can pack it in your carry on when you fly (a big reason it was made in the first place). It works just as well as the liquid cleanser but uses much less product.
Heres how i use it. I usually clean my beautyblenders when they are dry meaning I wash them right before use instead of after. The reason for this is when the sponge shrinks the makeup is pulled to the surface of the sponge and is easier to remove. I put a little water on the cleansing cake and rub the beauty blender all over it. I repeat this a couple of times until the sponge is covered and then rub the cleanser into the sponge. I then rinse it out and blot out the excess moisture.
