I really wanted to like this product but it just didn't work out. I loved the high spf, the vitamin C, the light natural coverage but there are two major downfalls. Color matching and pore clogging. It felt nice, didn't have an spf smell, it didn't make me particularly oily, easy no fuss packaging but it gave me pimples and I couldn't find a good color for my skintone. For reference, I'm very prone to breakouts so of you don't have that problem this might work for you!
Bought my first bottle due to RAVE reviews by a coworker and because I fell in love with the sample I got from Nordstrom. I have a tan/olive skin, but surprisingly the light color worked well on me. Followed it up with my Tarte powder and the finish was flawless through 6 hours at the zoo, throughout the weather changes that day!
I've only been using this for a week, but so far I like it a lot, so, since there are a lot of negative reviews, I'm writing one to counterbalance. First, the shine issue. Yes this has a dewy finish. I'm not usually a fan of dewy as I find that it exaggerates flaws. However, for me at least, this product's dewy finish works the way it's supposed to - it makes my face look better. It makes fine lines etc very slightly more visible than if my face is bare, but almost anything I put on my face does that, and with this product, that effect is minimal. Other dewy BBs that I've tried have hugely magnified my skin's flaws and made it look much worse, but that is not the case with this product. I have combination skin with a somewhat oily t-zone, and with this product it does get a bit shinier as the day goes on, but it's not excessive, for me. The first few days I used it by itself, as it's supposed to be hydrating, and it seemed okay. Then I used it on top of rosehip oil, and that also seems to work okay. The coverage is fairly sheer. I use a lot of the product, which I find gives a nice fresh, illuminated look. One day I used less, and it didn't look that great, so if you're trying this product, I would suggest that you apply generously. I have very mild rosacea (my cheeks tend to be a bit pink) and this product evens that out in a natural looking way. It also hides the large pores on my nose. I like the colour (Fair), which doesn't have the grey-yellow tone that a lot of BBs have. I think it's worth giving this product a try, as long as you're not looking for heavy coverage.
I personally thinks this BB cream is the best out there. I've tried a few asian's BB cream such as Etude, Missha, Face Shop, and tried Clinique CC cream as well. But it all failed to impress me. I hate the color that most BB cream gave me, that grey-ish white outcast; which this Kiehl's one has succeeded on avoiding that. It's really lightweight that I barely notice any make up on my face, it really feels like I'm not wearing anything on. Plus, the spf 50 & pa+++ just make this BB cream my favorite so far. Yes, it does lean more to the oily kind-of finish, but I do prefer that dewy finish cos in my opinion it makes girls look younger. When it gets over dewy, I could just blot and I'm good to go! I use the color light, and I am very happy that it matches my skin tone really well. I definitely would purchase this BB cream again when I ran out it. Recommended!
This is the best BB cream I have tried so far. It produces a very natural result and does a good job of getting rid of minor imperfections (slight redness) and adds more lumniousity. In summer I've used this instead of a regular daycream and it seems to do a good job at moisturizing. I like the fact that it has SPF50 for protection although it might be a bit overkill in wintertime (in Sweden, bye bye sun). The only con I can think of is that it does not combat shine very well and for combo skin like mine powder is a must, however, this seems to be the case with pretty much every BBcream and foundation I have tried so far. But if you are prone to oily skin this will probably not be a perfect match.
I got a sample of this when I bought Kiehl's lipbalm and eye cream. They gave me the 'fair' one, I was really excited to tried this.
The color fair seems ok applied on my NC25 skin. The texture is light and easy to spread. Too bad it doesn't give me a nice coverage. It just so...sheer.
Another bad thing, after several hours of using my face becoming so oily. So oily! I never experienced such thing with other bb cream and foundation. My face look like a grease ball. Dirty and shiny. Yuck!!!
Will not purchase this, not recommend it to others.
I hate to give this a bad rating but it has been very disappointing. I ordered the BB cream off the Canadian website the day it was available. I ordered it because I was very impressed by bloggers showing good coverage with it and the fact that it has a high SPF.
The first thing I noticed was that the packaging consisted of a tube with two stickers badly stuck to both front and back. It looks like they just threw it together. Maybe they haven't worked out Canadian production yet?!
I have normal skin - it's not dry or oily but this stuff stuck to my face like an oil slick. Any fine lines in a short amount of time were heavily accentuated by this product. And where it wasn't making me look older it was either very shiny or had completely slid off my face altogether. I'd say it was the heat but it's acted that way when it wasn't particularly hot and I definitely wasn't sweating. Maybe it'd be OK in the winter with dry skin but I really bought it just for SPF and summer use, which it is completely useless for.
Oh well, back to using sunscreen & foundation separately!
*EDIT* - I can't believe I forgot this... I broke out like crazy while I was using it. I've been off it for a week now and my skin went back to normal. It could only have been the BB cream. If you have acne prone skin be aware.
So I was looking for a foundation/BB cream, and since I love Kiehl's moisturizer I decided to splurge on theirs. I got it in light, and it matches my peachy/pink/fair skin tone well. I think that it would go with most undertones because it has a pretty neutral color.
I'm not really a foundation person and only wear this 1-2 times per week (and therefore can't really comment on its skin nourishing properties), but so far I've been satisfied. The BB cream looks natural and helps to even out the redness on my skin without a lot of product. I'm not a huge fan of the old adage "a little goes a long way," but in this case it really does. I also have a BB cream by Kanebo that I bought in Japan, and this product is worlds apart both in quality and finish.
The cons: I agree with some of the other reviews--it IS heavy. However, I'm used to heaviness because of sunscreen so that's not a big minus for me. Also, because it has high SPF, there is quite a bit of shine to this product which you may need to tone down with powder. Extra products kind of go against the purpose of BB cream I suppose.
Overall: I won't probably buy it again, but only because I dislike foundation. If I did, I might repurchase after trying out a few more BB creams.
I prefer medium to full coverage over light foundations and BB creams, but I love Kiehls and thought I'd give this a shot. I have this in Fair, which is a nice match for me (MAC NW10, Chanel 10 Beige). I have rosacea, and this does a pretty nice job of toning down the redness in my cheeks and on my chin. Obviously it's no where near medium or full coverage, but I do see an improvement. I do set this with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light, and like the look of it. I was hoping to be able to use this for work, since it's a lot faster than a full foundation routine, but that's not going to happen. Within 2-3 hours my t-zone looks horrible... so oily, and then with all of the blotting I have to do throughout the day, the BB cream starts to come off. Not a good look. For me, this works best when I'm running errands or going somewhere for a couple of hours, otherwise it just starts to look horrible. I could see this working great for someone who isn't as oily as me.
