Lanolin oil comes from the wool of sheep, it's a thick, sticky, honey-like oil tha keeps the sheep's wool protected in the rain. It's found in most lip products because of it's moisturizing properties. It's also an intense moisturizer for skin, often used on a nursing mother's nipples or a baby that has diaper rash. I mix about 7 parts lanolin with 1 part carrier oil (olive, grapeseed, jojoba) and apply to lips. (I mix it in an old lipgloss bottle). Makes for a wonderful homemade moisturizing lipgloss and lip treatment! The old downside isthat pure lanolin oil can sometimes retain a slight "barnyard" smell, but it goes away once diluted in the carrier oil.
