Holy cannoli!! Okay, this is quite possibly the most gorgeous nude shade I've ever worn. Ever. Ever ever ever.
I have to start with the only negative that I have to say about this product, and that's the price. At $30 per tube, it's absolutely staggering. But I wanted something luxury (I have reason to celebrate and this is my treat to myself) and had been eying Hourglass products for quite a while after finding out that they are a full cruelty-free company.
I was in the market for a lustrous nude, but something not-too-pale and nothing frosty. When I swatched this at Sephora next to NARS' Pago Pago, the pigmentation, finish, and texture of this lipstick won by a landslide.
I love that this is a darker, pinker nude shade. Instead of frost, there are tiny bits of shimmer running throughout which gives the shade loads of dimension without frosting it back to 1987. The shimmer is also slightly iridescent, making this shade truly unique.
On my lips, this turns into a gorgeous MLBB, except the shimmer paired with the sheeny satin texture provide so reflective of a finish that my lips look huge! I love anything that gives my lips a plumper look, so that is a major plus.
I find the formula to be hydrating and creamy, but not so much that it slides around my lips. It's actually fairly long-lasting on me, and I spend most of my day drinking tea so that's saying a lot.
The packaging is GORGEOUS! And boy is it sturdy. And it's refillable. The blackened rosy bronze color is stunning. Hourglass nailed it with this packaging, that's for sure.
Over all, I'd say this product is an absolutely dream. The price definitely keeps me from calling it a holy grail lipstick, but the refills are less expensive, so depending on how long this tube lasts me, I might change my mind and make this a permanent staple in my makeup kit.
Wow! This pale nude-look lipstick is winner! It is soft, creamy, lasts awhile, and has subtle sparkle without being over the top glitter on the lips. I love the barely there soft pink-beige colour; and have not found any colour or formula comparable to this one. I have looked for the perfect pink nude colour for years, and here it is. While pricey, if it is just what you want, go for it. You won't have to pay full price again: refills are available in this line for $24 just now. The case is gorgeous and heavy. There is no cheap plastic here. The formula uses no parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes or phthalates in their colours. These lipsticks soften and plump up the lips; and add a generous bit of colour in any of 16 shades.
The Femme Rouge Velvet Creme lipsticks by Hourglass are one of the very few that possess the qualities to make it your HG of lipsticks. The casing is fantastic, as it has those nice magnetic "clicks" so you know you've closed it. Plus, the cap will most likely not separate from the tube in your purse. I took off one lippie because I wished it would last longer, and the fact that the tip is an unusual shape which I have to practice in my applications.
For instance, "Whisper" is that perfect opaque nude that lasts much longer than other run of the mill "light" lipsticks. It is opaque, moisturizing, and lasts a good 4 hours. It's a cross between a pink and peach, and closely resembles my all-time HG which is Georgio Armani #102. It feels good on the lips. It is not drying and pulls on lips. Nor does it settle into the lines in lips, but instead, it creates the illusion of larger lips which I so desire!
I definitely will explore and sample other lipsticks by Hourglass. They have a winner in these under-rated lipsticks, and hopefully, this review will reach an audience that is ready to splurge on a fantastic lipstick.
