Wow! As I was scoping the aisle for my shampoo/conditioner I came across this product.I wasn't looking for this type of hair treatment but I thought I would try this too see if it actually works, plus no loss,I could always return this if it didn't work out =) To my amazement, this is a truly great product.I have always disliked Pantene products for my hair. They never seemed to worked out.Extremely pleased with this treatment & wouldn't definitely buy this once I run out!
I have used this product for around 8 days. The first time I applied it I realized why so many people say they notice an immediate difference: it contains a lot of alcohol and between that and the massage it seems to detach your hair roots from the scalp which creates a feeling of more volume. I wonder if alcohol is good for your roots since I have been given homemade treatments (which I have not tried) and are alcohol based. In any case, the immediate "effect" is OK.
I cannot comment on the long term effects of the treatment but I do find alarming how little the product lasts. I have extra fine hair and the starter kit bottle (1.7 oz, 50ml) will only last for around 10 applications.... the full sized bottle is only 4.2oz so it will be barely enough for a month.
I also believe the instructions to "push down the nozzle completely each time" and use 15 full pumps to cover the scalp area are not good. I find you need to use more than 15 shorter sprays in order to distribute it properly.
In any case, it turns out to be very expensive considering how little it lasts. I will try to report again on the more long term effects and will follow this thread with interest. I am rating it a provisional three lippies since it remains an unknown quantity to me.
If they every quit making this I will cry. It adds thickness and body, without adding that product gunky feel. My hair is just soft, and thick with volume.
When my hair is still damp from my shower, I spray it all along my roots all around my head.
You can't seem to use too much.
As I age (almost 40- gasp!), I have definitely noticed my hair is getting a bit thinner. Which I hate, because I have always had a ton of hair. It's fine in texture, but I've always had so much that I never worried about it. But, I can tell this year that perhaps I am starting to lose some and it was killing me!
I read about this in some magazine.. can't remember which. But the magazine reviewed it and said it worked, so I thought I would give it a try.
There are two things I don't love- the first ingredient is alcohol, so I am worried it is going to dry my hair out. But honestly, if it does- I will deal with it but conditioning more, or using masks or whatever. Second, the price. This stuff is expensive. But, it does work, and I will continue to use it.
Also, I first bought it as part of the Age Defy three pack, that included the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner are terrible- I actually threw them away after the first time I used them! So, don't waste your time on that starter three pack would be my opinion.
I LOVE this project. I have really long, thin, fine, highlighted hair. Let me just say, I've been using this for two weeks, and the first day I used it my boyfriend even noticed a difference in my hair. I used it in the morning before work and when I came home and was making dinner he asked if I had gone to get my hair done during the day. I was in shock. The results lasted all day and just continued to get better over the last two weeks.
How I use this product: I start with towel dried hair, apply aragan oil throughout my hair, brush it out, then I use the thickening treatment, I spray it on my hands, flip my head upside down and rub it into the roots of my hair. I then clip my hair up with a big clip into a huge poof on top of my head and let it dry some while I do my makeup, I then blow my hair out with a round brush and I'm done, It always looks amazing.
I really like this stuff. I started using the whole age defying line in December. I think the bottle of thickening treatment lasted me 5-6 weeks of daily use. I noticed a positive difference right away but even more so as time went on. For reference, I have fine (but lots of it) hair in a short chin length bob that i color light blond...my hair type and color combo show any damage easily so I cut it every 6 weeks. This product got my hair to where I fellt like I could take a break from it and still maintain results. I stopped using it for a month and my hair still looked thicker. I am back to using it again and it doesn't let me down. I believe any thickening product eventually dries out your hair sooner or later and I do take a break from any product- shampoo, cond etc when my hair doesn't have movement. I prefer hair that moves then super thick looking hair that doesn't. As for this causing split ends? It didn't give me that but I could see some raised cuticles but no biggie.
I think a lot of the negative reviews regarding this product are because people are not using it correctly, so I have to chime in here. I have been using the product for 2 weeks so far, if anything changes I will update my review accordingly.
This product is intended to be rubbed on the SCALP only. So obviously if you get split ends with the product you are using it on the ends of your hair... duh. Read the instructions on the package insert. OK back to my review! I have fine thin Northern European hair and I have been experiencing hair loss since age 35. After shampooing my hair I apply Rogaine foam on my worst areas of loss, wait about 10 minutes then I apply the Pantene thickening treatment. I part my hair in different sections, spray close to the scalp and massage it in very well; if you take the time to massage it into the scalp it absorbs completely with no stickiness. Next I apply a different styling product to the lengths of my hair (I alternate with Nexxus Pro-Mend treatment, Nexxus Pro-Mend volume mousse or Catwalk Your Highness thickening gel-creme) and blow-dry or air-dry. Result: at least double the volume at my roots vs. not using Pantene Age-defy thickening treatment. The thing I appreciate the most about this product is that it does not leave hair stiff and coated vs. other thickening products like Living Proof or Pureology thickening spray. The product is meant to be used daily over a long period of time so I will definitely finish my bottle and see what the end result is. FYI I have not tried the Age Defy shampoo and conditioner yet, I am using Fructis Fall Fight and am very happy with that. If you have an Ulta store near you they often have a 3.50$ coupon in their flyer and they sell it for 18.99$.
I purchased this product about a month ago, when it first came out. Upon the first use, I loved the results. My hair looked thicker and had a ton of body, unlike any other product I had used before. I also enjoyed that there was no stickiness, or crunchy feeling in my hair. Plus it also did not dull the hair. Every day was a good hair day, until using it for a week straight. After that, my hair just felt dried out and straw like. It became hard to style, and even after using a deep conditioner to bring some moisture back,my hair was still very dry. The packaging says to use this this daily, and you are supposed to get more improvement in thickness after two weeks to a month. Well, by then I'm sure my hair would be so dried out that nothing would revive it! I do really like the results, but I had to take a break from it. This product contains a lot of alcohol, so I knew that it was this product that was causing my hair to be so dry. I will still use it, but only occasionally. My hair is color treated, and it is already a bit dry, so if you have normal hair I think this will work a lot better to use on a daily basis.
EDITED 3/29/13 I have bumped this up another lippie. I started using this again on a daily basis, and my hair has seemed to be OK, not as dry as it was in the beginning. I feel like like overall, my hair has become thicker, as if it is helping me grow more hair if that is possible. I love it and will keep using. I'm about halfway through my bottle and use about 10 sprays all over my scalp.
This really works just like it says it does. It makes my hair appear more thick. It doesn't make you grow new hair, but from reading the package that isn't the promise. I do have to make sure I put on roots, especially around my bangs. It does coat the hair (I'm assuming that is what makes it look thicker) so when it gets on my bangs they get hard. But on the rest of my hair or if I'm not drying my bangs down it is the best thing I've found in a long time. It makes my hair look much thicker. I was even thinking about getting hair transplant or something because since I turned 40 (now 46) my hair has become noticeably thin on top especially in the crown. For real with this product it look thick and full.
I also use the shampoo and conditioner. I don't know if that does anything to make my hair look thick, but I LOVE THE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER!! Using all 3 together my hair hasn't looked so good fo years. And I have bought the most expensive to the most cheap products around. I travel a lot and have tried products from around the world and this is the first time I felt the need to write a review. This product works just like it says it does. Do yourself a favor try all 3.
This product doesn't seem to work that well on it's own at plumping up my hair. I was using it on my towel dried hair as the only styling product left in my hair. After blowdrying with a round brush (my normal routine) my hair didn't really seem much thicker. However, today, I tried it differently. I shampooed and conditioned with the age defy products then put this on (only my scalp) while was hair was more wet. I then wrapped my hair in a towel and did my makeup. When I was ready to dry my hair I applied a bit of my normal styling product on top of this - after blow drying with my round brush I had amazing results!!! The best so far while using this line. I was afraid it might be too much styling product in my hair and weigh it down, but I got just the opposite! My only complaint about this product is that it smells strongly of alcohol, so it probably has alcohol listed as one of its first ingredients. I noticed another reviewer said she had terrible split ends after using this for 3 weeks. I imagine all that alcohol could dry the hair out quite a bit, so I'm not sure about the continued use of this product. I will use it until it's gone (the trial size). I will evaluate the end result and post it here.
This product works extremely well. My hair looked so much thicker / fuller.
BUT... I used this product for about 3 weeks and I have never had so many SPLIT ENDS. This product is extremely drying. I highlight my hair and also use hot rollers and this product has absolutely damaged my hair.
I would only recommend this product is you have super healthy, natural hair.
