First, I will describe my skin. I have combination skin that is pretty much oily but with very dry patches (contact dermatitis according to a dermatologist) around my nose, especially the creases of my nostrils, and chin. Despite being oily, my skin is rather dry - I started doing the oil cleansing method but have been lazy lately and reverting to the Body Shop Tea Tree Gel Cleanser. I'm sure if I get into a good regimen with the oil cleansing method, this dryness will no longer be an issue. My acne is pretty much non-existent now (I'm 24) but around my period, if I eat bad, or simply don't get enough sleep I will "break out" with some very small bumps on my forehead and base of cheeks underneath my cheekbones. I also have some slight discoloration from former pimples. I never had cystic acne, so I don't have any major scarring, etc. However, because of the extreme dryness around my nose and chin, I have a tendency to over moisturize and have a lot of small red pimples in this area. This area is also very red and what I target in the morning when it comes to hiding it with foundation.
I had used the drying lotion by Mario Badescu in the past, but often times it really is of no use to me because my pimples just aren't large enough for it to "dry them up" properly. However, I did notice it worked when I would get the occasional large pimple now and then. So when looking for a new cleanser, I decided to give his brand a try again. I wanted a cleanser that would really deep clean my skin (to effectively remove layers of makeup that I had applied during the day) and, if possible, help with the slight discoloration I have because up until this point I had never really bothered trying to remedy it. I came across the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser on the brand's website and checked numerous rave reviews that claimed it worked really well. So I decided to purchase it and give it a try.
Right now, I am only using it a few times a week at night only (how it recommends using it on the instruction label) and have only been using it for about a month, so far. I didn't want to overuse this product just because I do have those very dry patches and didn't want to aggravate them further. I'm not lying when I say I think this product is the reason my skin has been looking great lately. My roommate even complimented me the other day (late at night when I was makeup free) telling me I had "really great skin". My skin had been kind of broken out prior to using this product, and it is now almost perfectly clear and really looks much much more even in terms of tone and discoloration. I think it is actually HELPING my dry patches as well - my chin/nose area is much smoother and not as flaky as it originally was. Also, the pimples in this area have basically all but vanished with only a couple of stragglers remaining. It's also nowhere near as red as it once was - I can get away with no foundation now!! Overall, my skin just feels softer and smoother and I feel like it has a "glow" that it never had before.
I'm tempted to start using this cleanser every night before bed just because I wear makeup every day. Since this cleanser really deep cleans, it's perfect for removing makeup and seems like it would be a great nightly (or near nightly) ritual. However, I will ease into this experiment and if I find my skin is getting too dry or just reacting badly to the increased usage, I'll go back to using it 3 times a week again. Nevertheless, I give this product two thumbs up!!
Very harsh cleanser, difficult to use and dries out my skin. not recommended for people with sensitive skin.
OMG. Handsdown the best face wash for oily skin and acne prone skin. This is the only wash that not only keeps me from getting new acne, but actually heals acne/acne marks with the glycolic acid. I've been using it about two or three months, and it works amazingly. When I try some new face wash that breaks me out, I pick this one right back up and bam, no new acne. It doesn't heal acne right away, but if you're like me and always getting new acnes, it keeps them at bay. using it you won't get anything new, but healing does take time, so don't be discouraged! i know it's only for use 2-3 times weekly. But I use it almost once daily, but never twice in one day. IT works amazingly. I would recommend to anyone with problematic skin. It doesn't dry you out, gets all your makeup off, and leaves skin feeling fresh. It has light citrusy-plant like smell. it looks yellow in the bottle, but comes out pretty clearly. And if you're like me and love a wash that's really bubbly and lathers up nicely, this is it. Even a little bit goes a long way. And for the price, only like 15 bucks, it's a steal. Not bad at all. Try it out!
I have terrible blackheads (and oily/sensitive skin), so I am always on the lookout for something that will prevent blackheads - and this came to my attention. I have been using this for a few weeks, 2x a week with my Clarisonic, and it has made a huge difference! I stopped using it for a week while I was travelling and my pores got super clogged again. Now I know that continued use of this will help keep blackheads minimized. The price is decent considering how big the bottle is (you need very little, I use about less than a dime-sized amount for my face), but I wish the bottle had a pump. Otherwise, definitely going to repurchase!
I needed a cleanser that was mid-priced and would treat problem skin ( large pores, little wrinkles, scars, etc), I tried this for a month and found it to be too drying for my skin. Although it removed my bb cream well, I felt it was too strong for daily use. The value is good, lasts a long time but I don't know if I will continue using this.
I started using this only a few days ago - and WOW this product is amazing. I switched out my 10% Benzoyl Peroxide facial cleanser for this one and I can already see a difference in my skin. I have combo skin, but lately my forehead has been BEYOND oily and my cheeks have been super dry. I know how to handle dry skin, but the acne on my forehead is beyond bothersome. Since my BP wasn't doing the trick anymore I thought a nice high dose of glycolic acid would take those pimples out! And it did. I don't have any active breakouts on my forehead right now, and I have only used this a few times. It is very very drying. I would say more so than BP. But that is why it's working for me! I always make sure to tone and moisturize right after I use this. If you have mild acne, combo skin, or oily skin TRY THIS. I think it may be better than BP!!
I love this cleanser! I have moderate acne and I found that even after one use, my acne decreased and my skin feels a lot smoother :) I love the consistency and it feels very light and smooth on your face.
However, I would only recommend this for people who have oily and not dry skin because it strips your face. This was good for me, since I have oily and acne-prone skin, but wouldn't be good for someone with dry skin. You always have to follow with moisturizer.
Overall, I really enjoyed this product and I'll definitely be using it in the future! :)
Love this stuff! The directions state to use this once or twice a week, which I do, and I've had it for 6 months now and have only used half the bottle! A little definitely goes a long way....anyways, it does leave your skin very soft and smooth, and doesn't dry it out either! I am anxious to try the Glycolic Toner.
I've been using this for alittle over a month now. I heard about glycolic products but never tried any so decided to pick this one up. I wanna say it was around $15, not bad for a higher end cleanser. It has a TON of product which will last me months if not a year. You only need about a dime size amount and about a nickel for areas like your chest and shoulders. On the back of the bottle it states to only use once or twice a week! I use it twice a week on my face and follow up with a moisturizer right after and my skin has felt fine. Although it has completely dried out my hands pretty badly from using them to wash my face with it. If you have dry skin do not exceed the 1-2 a week instructions! It will dry you out!! I know because I got inpatient and used it as a daily cleanser for a while and I was soooo dry. Had helped keep my acne at bay and ill repurchase if I can ever finish the bottle!!
So far this has been a great cleanser for my oily skin. I use it between 2-4 times a week, only once a day when I don't use my normal cleanser. I don't find it too drying and it doesn't burn my skin but it feels really clean. I haven't had many breakouts since I started using it so I'm hoping with continued use it'll help improve my complexion and help fade dark marks and blemishes I have.
