This is an unfortunate miss from Essence, which normally makes pretty good drugstore mascaras. It seems they've discontinued the "Multi-Action Mascara" in the black and pink tube and replaced it with this, and it is not nearly as good. When you first open it, the formula is too wet- definitely just like black water for your lashes. Any emphasis it gives your eyes is simply from darkening. After the tube dried out a little, I got better results for a few weeks by layering it up to about three coats, and it finally looked like there was some length and volume. But then it quickly got too dry to use and started flaking when I layered it, even though I wasn't waiting for it to dry between coats.
Also- it lasts very poorly and you may find yourself getting raccoon eyes. And it irons out a curl unlike any mascara I've tried before. Not impressed.
The waterproof version is even worse- way too wet, clumps your lashes together in big wet globs so you have to comb them through again and again and AGAIN... not to mention not actually being waterproof at all.
I have bought this mascara because of the price. It is cheap and pretty good. But compared to my maybelline one(the purple one, false lashes or sth like that) , it's far behind.I like the way my lashes look after I have apllied it ,but i can't even touch them afterwards. It wears off really fast. Once again, I see it's better to spend a little more money on this kind of products in order to have the quality desired. Buy again? No...
No where near as fabulous as my favourite Essence mascara which is" I Love Extreme. ' Adds length but does not add volume. If you want spidery black, go for this.
This mascara wasn't the best.
cheap yes and i found like it did make my eyelashes more noticeable, i think its not good at volume/lengthening like other mascaras are, but for a natural kind of look its okay.
a problem i did encounter though was when applying it would constantly smudge when i blinked, and this continued to happen after 15 minutes of application.
for only purchasing this 3 dollars it isn't too bad, though i wouldn't recommend it,
Great mascara, I really like this! All Eyes On Me is my first Essence mascara & I'm really impressed. I see a lot of negative reviews here, so before I get started I want to mention that I always use lash primer with any mascara and maybe that's what made the difference between me and the reviewers who did not like it. Because I thought it was awesome!
This mascara made my lashes super-crazy-long & fluttery (although I would have liked a teensy bit more volume), beautifully separated too, the overall effect was just gorgeous. And I like how the wand comes out nice & clean without excess product on it, very smooth & clump-free application. No flaking or smudging (but that could have been because of my lash primer). Really good mascara for only a couple of dollars- fantastic!
Would definitely buy again :)
- Cheap (retails at AU $3.50 - unheard of in Australia!)
- Decent volume and length
- Portable and cute packaging
- Doesn't make my lashes clump together
- Does not hold a curl despite being waterproof. After curling my lashes, the wet formula of this mascara makes my lashes immediately drop down
- Smudges under my eyes after an hour
Repurchase? No - even though I am a big fan of essence's long lasting eye pencils.
The only good thing about this product is that it's $3. It is an absolute waste of time. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS! its like applying black water to your eyelashes.. that is an exact description of this mascara!
This mascara was $2.99 CAD at my Shoppers Drug Mart and only comes in Soft Black, pretty cheap. That's all that is good about this mascara though.
The multi-effect claims: extra volume, length, thickness, curl and separation.
What it did:
- Lengthened, but only slightly
- darkens lashes
- lashes were separated, but spidery.
Did not do:
- no noticeable volume or thickness
- no curl
I don't know if it's because Essence mascaras are unsealed and therefore vulnerable to tampering/testing or if it's supposed to be like this but the formula is really dry. So dry that I thought there was nothing on the brush at first when I pulled it out. I had to brush it on many times before anything really showed up on my lashes, and by that time I had many clumps. I tried to wiggle the brush up my lashes as well and the dry formula only got my lashes stuck to each other making them lean in all directions and looking spidery. And of course it dried faster than I could use a lash comb to try and fix this.
I definitely will not repurchase, and I think I will avoid all of the other mascaras from Essence from now on (even though I keep thinking, what if I had bought a different one) because they aren't sealed. I never thought about it at the time, but in hindsight it was probably not very smart to buy an unsealed mascara that could easily have been tampered with, especially since it's not easy to tell if mascara has been opened and played with and because of how easy it is to get infections through contaminated mascara. I regularly see teens and adults alike messing up makeup testers by using them sloppily so I really hope nothing happened to mine...
I love trying Essence products because of the price. This mascara cost $1.99 CAD And I love it. At first I thought it would be a normal just basic mascara that would only bring color to my lashes but its pretty amazing. It doesn't bug my sensitive eyes and gives me volume and length. I love that it doesn't clump and that its not super wet. With two coats it gives me the desired look for a normal day at work. Nothing to extreme or nothing at all. I love it. I keep it in my everyday makeup bag. Even if I use a different mascara it usually will make its way onto my lashes as a first coat.
