I used this while I was on roaccutane and found that my matte foundation was not sitting great on my overly dry skin. It's an amazing product, it's so light and felt very hydrating on my skin! Like I'd just splashed water all over. It's absorbed immediately and little bit goes a long way. Kind of reminds me a serum in terms of texture. Not sure how this would go on oily skin but it is water based. I only used it when my skin was very dry. The packing is good but I think $56 for 30mls is a little steep. (Australia)Would re-purchase if I found my skin got too dry during winter.

I have dry-combination skin. This product was okay for my dry t-zone, but left the rest of my skin feeling very oily. I couldn't wait to wash it off. Perhaps better for someone with a true dry-skin.

before i purchased this, i already owned the color correcting (adjust) primer (the green one) from smashbox. this one, in my opinion, is much better, especially considering that i have drier skin. it goes well with lighter, water-based foundations, and makes my skin feel moisturised. it's expensive!!! but i would repurchase, because it works well for me.

Let me start off by saying I have oily skin as well as recently dry patches around my nose area which tends to make my akeup look flaky and all around terrible. When I use this primer however, my foundation looks great with it.It's a very hydrating primer and sometimes I feel as if I don't even need to use a moistruzer because of how nice it makes my skin feel. Its smooth and gives my skin a hydrating feeling. It truly lives up its name as a hydrating primer. Another thing I love about this primer is how a little bit of the product can go a very long way. I will use about a pea sized about for my entire half face. I'll wait a couple minutes for it to dry and apply my foundation. I love how it makes my foundation stay in place longer than if I were to wear the foundation without it. It's an overall great primer and hydrates my oily skin very well! Once I put my foundation on, it makes my dry patches non exisistent. I love this primer and would definetely buy it again. The price of the product is why I would rate it four lippies, but apart from that it's great!

I really like this. When I moved to WA state 4 months ago from So Cal my skin went berserk and I started breaking out really bad. I started using acne washes to combat the break out which in turn dried out my skin. The flakes made it almost impossible to wear foundation or concealer. The area under my eyes was the worst because makeup made those areas look majorly crepey. Even tho I have oily skin, my skin looked dehydrated due to acne washes and spot treatments. Since moving to WA I've become an avid ELDW foundation user because I needed full coverage to cover acne scars. Love that stuff. To help with the dryness of my skin and tohelp that foundation glide on better, I started using this as my primer ever since seeing eldw looking fabulous on another girl and asking her what she uses. She swore by this primer and eldw. Now what I do is moisturize, apply smashbox pore minimizer only onto the sides of my nose to fill the pores, then apply the hydrating primer all over(especially under the eyes). Wow, my makeup no longer looks cakey and gross. Under eye area looks hydrated and smooth even with my full face makeup looks. I do the triangle conceal/highlight technique and it looks smooth imo. I am so glad that girl told me about this primer. It really works for what I am looking for. I recommend it to all girls that have issues with their foundation looking dry and flaky. It is pricey imo but it does the job so I will keep purchasing.

I have extreme combination skin--very dry cheeks and neck, oily t-zone. Until recently, I could not find a foundation that looked good on my cheeks. Even foundations for dry skin accentuated my dryness. So I got this, thinking it would help. In short, it doesn't. It makes my cheeks alarmingly red and makes my pores stand out. I think I am better off without primer. I've had this for a while but it's difficult for me to find the motivation to use it.

def i went through 3 of these babies. i tried a lot of primers.. mac, the famous benefit primer, and others. but i found that it made me feel oiler and felt like i was wearing a mask whenever i used other primers. i think it's because i have oily skin. but i love this primer. i like this one or the green one (the acne improving primer one?) they are hydrating and my face feels smooth and refreshed. my foundation goes on a lot more natural. i actually like the dewy look. so it gives that finish :D always receive compliments. get a sample in sephora if you are skeptical :D also this product made it to my top 10 products of 2014 :D if you want to see the consistency and more of my review, here's my video for it :D<

I've been desperate to try a Smashbox primer for a while after hearing amazing things and while I was on holiday I decided to pick up one while I was in Sephora,my skin is mainly normal/dry but i get quite a few dry patches so I thought I'd pick up the hydrating one which sounded right up my street. I originally tried it on my hand and I was certain I'd love it (ha.) so I purchased it. However, the problem I encountered with this primer was that it doesn't really do particularly much? I find it doesn't blur or minimise my pores which I was not taken by, it takes agessssss to dry and I understand that's because it's probably hydrating but still. Also, I don't actually find my make up stays on any longer with this on, all in all I just didn't find it make much of a difference or do much more than your average moisturiser would do and for a high-end primer I was definitely expecting better things.

This is the first higher end primer I have purchased. I finally succumbed to media hype that a primer is best especially for creating a perfect canvass (in my case aging skin) before applying foundation and other products.I am a 44 year old gal with naturally aging skin in reasonably good condition with minimal line around eyes and forehead, splash of melasma and normal to combination skin. I wear foundations in colour spectrums of NC 20, Estee Lauder dw light Intensity 2 and my current HG NARS Sheer Glow Santa Fe.Having worn this primer under my foundation for the last week, I can confirm that in my experience of daily wear, this does absolutely nothing for me. No "photo friendly canvass", no minimising of pores, no extending of foundation longevity. Nada. Zero.In fact of all things I did notice, it seemed to make my face oiler than usual (all over rather than slight moisture on my nose). So I fail to see any purpose in a primer. Ladies, truthfully ain't no cream, gel or silicone formula going to do the miraculous and blur those dastardly ever increasing trot of fine lines. Fall in love with them all over again. Embrace them and gently nurture them and enhance your features with your foundation and other products. I for one will never again buy into the 'canvass preparation' hype nonsense.Only good thing I can say is that the tube is user friendly and dispenses product in sensible small round blobs and the formula spreads evenly either with fingers or brush. Ladies, don't waste your money on pricey nonsense. Rather spend on a good foundation (highly recommend the Nars Sheer Glow for us aging gals) or blush and lipstick.
