I picked up a few of these lip butters at Payless during a BOGO sale. I thought they were cute and for $4 each, why not? The Sweet Papaya Lip Butter does have a nice, sweet papaya scent. It's a little tropical, and I really like it. The website claims it also tastes like papaya, but I don't get any flavor from mine.
The first few times I used this, I didn't love it. For one, I don't love sticking my fingers into a pot to apply a lip product. But I've gotten over that part. The texture is super smooth and creamy, and it doesn't take much work to get enough onto your finger like some potted lip products. But at first I thought this felt too greasy. It settled into my lips nicely and kept them looking shiny, but the texture just felt greasy and off to me. But I continued using this and now I love the texture! Yes, it is a little more greasy-feeling than my other favorite balms, but I like how hydrating it feels and it really gives an amazing shine to my lips that lasts for a few hours.
The shine and nice feeling don't last forever, though. I usually apply lip balm several times a day if I'm not wearing lip gloss or lipstick because I like to keep my lips looking nice and healthy. But if I apply this lip butter more than 2 times a day, my lips start cracking and peeling. This side effect goes away on its own within a few hours or with the help of a lip scrub, but I really dislike having a product that should moisturize my lips make them chapped instead.
I'll continue to use this sparingly when I just want a little bit of shine added to my lips, but I won't repurchase this. I'm hoping the other scents I picked up work out better, but I'm betting they all use the same formula.
